Great Eats in Maui
First of all, you will enjoy the Royal Kahana, stayed there last time (11/2 years ago. Next door is the Sands of Kahana and a nice, moderately priced restaurant. The food is really good and it is rightr on the water. If you sit down after 6:00 p.m., you can enjoy the beautiful sunset and see the island of Molokai right in front of you. Later at night, they provide a band or single musician who plays. The whole restaurant is open aired and the bar is usually a great place to enjoy conversation. The name is somehing Kahana but you will have no trouble finding it. Also, go up the road to The Gazebo Restaurant for breakfast. It is everyone's favorite place. The view is so beautiful and the breakfast a real treat. As I just posted, the Aloha Mixed Plate in Lahaina is a gem. Cheap and delicious food...amazing view....fun. The locals eat their lunch there. You can bring up so many moderate dining options on line and even check out the menu and prices. Have fun!
Hawaii Chowhounding
We have been visiting Maui and Kauai for a number of years and will return this year for the month of May. On Maui, go to Lahaina and have lunch at The Aloha Mixed Plate. Million dollar view and just a really traditional Hawaiian lunch. Can't be the price and the atmosphere. So many great places...you can bring up on the net. For Kauai. Hamura is great...won the James Beard award back a few years. Don't leave Kauai without going to north end. Princeville is not to be missed nor the town of Hanalei. The Hanalei Bay Resort in Princeville win be reopening the Bali Hai Restuarant this mont with a new less exspensive menu. Lot's of excitement about the place. Eat lunch there or at the Happy Talk Lounge for simple fare. The view is amazing. You will talk about it forever. Bring up the resort and take a look for yourselves. Include breakfast at the very popular Gazebo at Kapalua. Take a look online for all the info. Love to go there! Have a great time!
ISO Upscale Dining in North Shore of Kauai
My husband and I will be on the north shore at the same time as you. We have a timeshare and will be bringing my sister and her husband to Hawaii for their first time. I have spent a ton of time researching everything and the restaurants will be first class for this vacation. I have booked Bali Hai for our first evening's meal. We have eaten there at least a dozen times or so and enjoy it so much. I have read some complaints but they are few in comparison to the positive ones. You will never eat in a restaurant in Hawaii that has a better view in my opinion. It is amazing. The entire restaurant has no windows and looks out at Hanalei Bay and the amazing mountains and waterfalls. We really enjoy the food. Google it and check their menu if you have any reservations. By the way, they have a great bar and lounge (also open aired) so your party can relax and have after dinner drinks to some great music.
Honeymoon Dinner in Ka'anapali
This is one area that I can help you with. We have been vacationing on western Maui for a number of years. If your friends rent a car ( a real must on Maui) they will have their choice of some real good restaurants. The Plantation House is in Kapalua which is about 10 minutes away from their resort. Also, up in that region is the Pinapple Grill. (beautiful location and wonderful food.) If your friend's fiance is pickey than you might want to play it safe and choose The Sea House Restaurant. This restaurant has their menu on line if you want to check it out. We chose this place for our first meal on Maui. The food is great but not so outthere that you are hesitant to try a dish. Lot's of fish and beef. They advertise "Steak and Potatoes" as well as gourmet. But, what a magnificent setting. The restaurant is high on the cliff looking out at Napilli Bay. Lit torches and hawaiian music playing softly in the background makes a meal here memorable.
