Favorite early weekday, sit-down, full service breakfast spot?

The Brasserie on W53 just off Lexington. I like their combo of Egg Benedict, lox on bagel, pancakes and a fresh fruit cup.

what missing YVR 25 years later

Haven't been to YVR haunts since the 80's until a couple of weeks ago. Liked Gurkha Himalayan, Pho Central on Davie, Pho Tan on Main and Saveon meats for burgers. Although in different location the Elbow room was ok same Patrick.

But I truly missed the Green Door in the alley at Pender and was totally choked about the empty ONLY SEAFOOD on Hastings really miss the Manhattan clam chowder., halibut cheeks and chips, fried salmon trout, cracked crab ... Is there any similar to the 80's Only Seafood in Vancouver?

Good Pho in Vancouver? Does it exsist?

Being a YEG Tau Bay fan it is hard to find comparable in YEG. . For some reason well cooked at Tau Bay means rare and regular is usually well cooked. Tau Bay seems to do more with the raw sliced onions and cilantro than the YVR pho I tried last week at Pho Central & Pho Goodness on Davie and Pho Tan on Main. I liked all three for rare beef. The basil was fresh, limes and bean sprouts and peppers were green rather than the red Tau Bay. Tau Bay is really only Pho and they probably make the stock from scratch. If the chili oil is the game changer for you maybe Pho Tan on Main. Good luck.

Best wines around town? Favorite Canadian wines?

Costco, Opimian and the occasional Superstore bargain are my choices. Costco sometimes carries the CDN wines Occulus and Osoyoos Larose. I usually avoid CDN wines but was pleasantly surprised by the BC wine Stag's Hollow Heritage Block 1 (Cabernet - Merlot) blend. Maybe Highlander or Willow Park for this one.

Edmonton: What to Order at Langano Skies and Sofra

At Sofra - the freshly made pita appetizer with three dips and for main entrees of rack of lamb or adana kebap are my favorites. Efes Pilsner beer.

Saveur top 100 - Caputo 00 flour

Was looking at the new Saveur Top 100 and it mentioned a Neopolitian pizza recipe that had 00 flour. Is this 00 flour available in Edmonton?

Saveur Number 1 was Kielbasa - I'll take the Mundare!

Planning my first trip to SFO in August 2010.

Pretty decent taco truck near Best Buy on Harrison and 12th not far from the Costco. For a seafood lunch - Tadich Grill or Sam's Grill. Tadich has pretty good CIOPPINO but I like the one I had at Fog City Diner better. For North Beach Italian Food - L'Osteria Forno has pretty good pizza. Chinatown - the salt and pepper chicken wings at Capital restaurant on Clay Street are superb. Out the door in the Ferry Terminal is great for a quick snack.. But the kicker would be great schnitzel in a beer hall- like atmosphere at Suppenkuche in Hayes.

Wine at Binny's: what do you like at $10-15

Last Sunday I went to the location of Binny's on Grand. Some deals - some of the 2005 Bordeaux was well priced , others less so but the Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown at $50 is a great deal . Many of the Californians - Burgess, Cakebread, Steltzner, Stags Leap Winery and Wine Cellars were cheaper than in California. I found the Dominick (Safeway) and Jewel prices downtown considerably higher.

Sofra Edmonton - alcohol?

Rack of lamb was pretty good when available. Adana kepab top notch as well. The appetizer of fresh pita bread with various dips (red pepper, humous, garlic yogurt) is a real treat. Ambiance is totally Pamuk ... Prairie metropolis meets Turkish confusion

Maybe phone the gift shop at Winchester house in San Jose. I was able to get Mister Baker's sourdough starter there which I found better than Goldrush.

anniversary wine to lay down

Aside from picking up the occasional 2005 Bordeaux bargains at the Sherwood Park Costco liquor store, Superstore discontinuations, and Opimian wine selections - maybe try Costco.com on-line (wines for CA etc.) and they will deliver to your folks place or go to the Costco in Palm Desert. In the Palm Springs/Cathedral City area --Ralph's (special section) seems to have a pretty good wine selection, Bristol Farms and possibly Costplus World Market would be my picks. Hope that helps.
