Blender recommendation?

Hi all,

After 15 years or so, my Cuisinart Smart Power Duet Blender is getting ready to retire.
I was going to replace the blade/gasket again, but noticed the buttons are cracking too, so I am thinking I need a new one.

I usually use it for smoothies or frozen margaritas. Not so much for soups. Use an immersion blender for that.

So, what would you recommend as good basic blender? One that actually crushes ice would be good, too.

I guess I'd spend at least $100 for a good one.

Thanks for your help.

Last minute brunch ideas?

Fantastic! What a great idea. Even just for every day. Sometimes the family doesn't get enough protein breakfast, so if I had these on hand, that would solve that for sure.

Thanks again!

Last minute brunch ideas?

MAH, Yes! Until I posted here, I never even though of quiches or stratas. Now I will certainly choose those for my menu. I always love Ina Garten's philosophy of making things in advance.

Your idea of the quiche with roasted cauliflower and butternut squash is fantastic. I am always roasting veggies and that really sounds wonderful.

Also love the idea of having a sweet dish too.

Your ideas are fab and much appreciated.

Last minute brunch ideas?

Thanks Hill and Chocolate. Also both excellent suggestions. I have never made a strata and might give that a whirl. I also love the egg cup recipe too.
Now I've got plenty of things to choose from.
You guys and gals rock!

Last minute brunch ideas?

Thank you SO much! Lots to choose from. I do like the crustless blender quiche and the Brown Rice and Cheese casserole looks good too. Thanks for taking the time to post everything. Now off to finalize the menu and go shopping.

Last minute brunch ideas?

Hi all,

Having a small get-together in a small apartment with a small kitchen. I was thinking a buffet would be the easiest way for me to handle this.

I don't entertain very much, so would love your input on what I could serve for this small gathering. It will be under 10 people, most likely 6-8.

I've already decided on a large salad with a simple vinaigrette, and something like a fruit crostata for dessert. Just not sure what the main dish or dishes could be. Anything made in advance is preferable.

Thanks so much,
Ellie

Breakfast near Grand Central, not too expensive, but a bit more than a diner

Hi all,

Any recommendations?

A diner-type would be okay, as long as it's not one of the kitschy touristy places.

Thanks for your help.

Mamma Mia's in Saratoga Springs

Another YES for Mama Mia's. We mostly went there for pizza, the eggplant being our absolute favorite. Also had dinner there and it was delicious.
That's great they're opening up a bakery, too. Don't live in the area anymore, but will check it out next time I visit.

Thanksgiving dinner-location halfway between New Haven, CT and Briarcliff Manor, NY

I just wanted to pop in and tell you all that we ended up going to Dressing Room in Westport.
It was teriffic! Thanks for the recommendation chatNchow!
Most of us ordered the traditional Heritage turkey dinner, with all of the trimmings. The food was delicious and fresh! We also got cornbread and macaroni and cheese and brussels sprouts.
Desserts were outstanding too. Pumpkin Pie was divine. It was a lovely setting, the service was great and we might eventually go back just for lunch or dinner another time.

Thanksgiving dinner-location halfway between New Haven, CT and Briarcliff Manor, NY

Hi all,

This might be a bit of a quirky request, but here goes anyway.

I am trying to find a nice inn atmosphere kind of place for Thanksgiving, located approximately halfway between New Haven and Briarcliff Manor, NY.

It doesn't have to be exactly equidistant of course, but both parites thought this might be a good idea, if there's a place worth going to.

Thanks for your help.

Looking for infant friendly dining

Clem,
I'd be interested in kid-friendly spots for breakfast/brunch/lunch in W. Village and Chelsea.
We'll be meeting friends with a 3-year-old.
Thank you!

Bread Baking at Home

I've been making the Lahey no-knead bread in a cast iron pot.
Can I use this same recipe in a loaf pan? Been wanting to find a way to make a no-knead sandwich loaf.
Thanks!

Farmer's Markets - Briarcliff Manor, Ossining area

Thanks everyone.
I eat a lot...: I did check this board before I posted and didn't find anything. I guess I didn't look all the way back to May. Thanks so much for finding that thread.

Where's the best place to find parking for the Ossining market?

Sushi recommendations for Briarcliff Manor and environs

Thanks Jess. I've only lived here a couple of days, so haven't had much time to explore yet. Seems like a nice area and everyone tells us we're going to love it here.

Kat, That sushi pizza appetizer sounds great. I think we'll have to go there really soon now!

Supermarkets in Briarcliff Manor and vicinity

Thanks everyone. Glad to hear that Stop and Shop is okay. Very excited that I have a few farmer's markets to choose from. I also haven't been near a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's for over two years. Glad I can visit those occasionally too.

Mexican food in Saratoga Springs, NY

Hi Stuart,

In regards to your off-topic, I read a few bad comments on local boards about Shanghai Grill, so I probably won't venture there. Their main location is supposed to be so good, so I don't get why the SS one isn't. Hope YoYo Ma fared better than others who ate there.

If you come back to SS and try El Mexicano and let us know what you think.

Mexican food in Saratoga Springs, NY

I'm certainly not an expert Gerchak198, but I did live in SoCal for many years and had great Mexican food there. This place measures up really well.

I overheard a woman at another table who said she lived for many years in the Southwest, and the food at El Mexicano was excellent.

If you do try it again, I hope you enjoy it. Pop back here and let us know.

Mexican food in Saratoga Springs, NY

Wow, this topic hasn't been discussed since last year.
Since then, El Mexicano has opened a second location in Saratoga Springs.

I have been there several times and think it's fantastic. The food is fresh and flavorful and everything I've ordered has been amazing.

The only drawback I think, is that they don't have their liquor license yet. It hasn't stopped me from going, but I know it's been an issue for some.

Has anyone been here? Thoughts?

Bedford Hills, NY - Food shopping?

Hi all,

I might be moving to Bedford Hills and was wondering where residents go for groceries.

I am just doing research now, so I have no idea what stores are there. I figured this would be the best place to go to find out out.

Of course, it would be great if a Trader Joe's was nearby. Hopefully there's a farmer's market, too.

Thanks for your help.
