need recommendations for CSAs & other local food delivery services

If you are in north county I highly recommend morning star farms.
She has weekly and biweekly deliveries with all kinds of options. I never did CSA until 4 months ago and the quality and variety is awesome. They do exotics so you also get macadamia nuts and pineapple guavas etc instead of the usual kale kale kale.
But if you're not in north county and need delivery , you may want to look elsewhere.

Chow worthy in Encinitas - guests coming from Chicago

Wonderful sushi at Kaito. He's the impressionist master of sushi in SD. Make sure to reserve at the bar w Kazuo. Ambience looks funky in this strip mall but omakase is the best.

Qero is fantastic. We love it but reservations are needed as they do seatings.

Monday nights just have a fun beer and burger night with live music at Craftsman. Very tasty and casual.

Best Restaurant Meal in 2013 ?

I second Tadokoro. One of our many omakases with Take was a night with 4 types of toro. It was fabulous. Love that place. Let the rest go to Ota or Kaito. Some of us know Tadokoro is best.

Outside of SD, in Truckee we had a wonderful meal at Stella's. Sat outside at sunset and there was one delectable dish after another. Their twist on a bahn mi was one of many hits for the night.

Veladora, Morada or Market ?

A small birthday celebration. Menus look good so does ambience but which would you recommend?

Broguiere's egg nog?

I saw it at whole foods del mar and the harvest ranch in olivenhain. The egg nog is just a little too much for me...rich and kind of an almost slippery feel. I can see how people may like it but it's not for me.

San Diego CLOSED Restaurants: Thread Three- The Saga Continues.

I really liked Narraya. Great atmosphere and food. It was Amarins sister restaurant. Every time I went there were plenty of people there.

Best sushi north of Mexico, south of Santa Barbara?

Take does not do lunch yet and I wish he did.
I have not felt the love at Kaito that I do at Tadokoro. The quality is there at Tadokoro with a way better ambience and it is very much Jiro dreams of sushi. I live near Encinitas and prefer Tadokoro. But Kaito is quite nice especially if you are staying in carlsbad.
Try both!

Best sushi north of Mexico, south of Santa Barbara?

Sushi Tadokoro in Old Town is equal to Ota and Kaito with way better ambiance. Ask to sit at the bar by Take and do omakase. You will love it.

Encinitas area, big anniversary, Monday

Really wanted to try Veladora but they are closed on Mondays.
Soo... think we are going a little more casual and just going to try out Solace and Moonlight.
Already have done all the ones near LJ, so we will try something different and let you know how it was. I like the menu and enjoyed the US in NP.

Encinitas area, big anniversary, Monday

Ok so chef night off in the Encinitas area for a big number wedding anniversary, just 2 of us. Doesn't have to be high end but should be warm and delicious and we should be able to hear each other without shouting.....

Sushi - Kaito vs. Ota vs. Tadokoro vs. Hane

One night Take had 4 grades of toro and we had that in our omakase. What an experience!!

Sushi - Kaito vs. Ota vs. Tadokoro vs. Hane

Great choice! Tadokoro is our go to sushi place. It's small with a lovely atmosphere w jazz quietly playing and you can have a conversation. Sushi is excellent. Ankimo is wonderful. Try zuke tuna and grilled Chilean sea bass. Let Take guide you. He is a master and just a truly nice person. I'd never known barracuda could be delicious until he served us some. Rolls are not their focus but their rolls are excellent if you want one.

Ota is fantastic too but it's impossible to get sushi bar reservation without way advance planning. Service is so efficient as you may feel rushed but the sushi is wonderful.

Kaito is the wild artist of sushi to me. Loved my omakase Bday there. It is pretty loose though and the atmosphere isn't like the others. And beware if you or your friends are attractive women because Kaz will be boldly flirting and talking only to them all night. Funny at first then just unnerving.

Encinitas help!

Any suggestions for fish? We go to the Fishery and PB Fish Market and also El Pescador. Would love to find something like that there.

Encinitas help!

We are moving to the Encinitas area from SD and need some advice for dining of all kinds. I already have Kaito and Via Italia Trattoria on the short list. What about other places for Thai, Mexican, Italian, more pizza, seafood? I'm still prob going to have to head out to Convoy for Vietnamese and yakitori though.
Besically any gems are appreciated. We love all cuisines. I'm going to miss my usual places but it will be fun to find new ones.

Kauai Poipu dinners, some casual

Great ideas! Any casual tiki type beach places on poipu? Sometimes these with a view of the ocean and a cocktail are the best dinners no matter what the food is.

Kauai Poipu dinners, some casual

Heading back to visit Kauai and stay in Poipu after 10 years and are excited! Planning to try Red Salt, Beachhouse and Merrimans for dinner but would like some good but more casual options too. I know Brenneckes is not necessarily a great one, but we do remember a fun location and very chill. Josellins Tapas looks kind of fun too. Any others?

Healdsburg

Michelin stars not important to us. My better half is leaning toward Zin but I am leaning to Bistro or BD. I think anyone of those will be lovely. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Sonoma one night

I was thinking Girl and the Fig but is it not the same since the chef left for Napa? Cafe la Haye sounds lovely but I have visions of me with a migraine post wine tasting and having to go in pain or pay for canceling. Other two possibilities are La Salette or Harvest Moon Cafe. It's the last night of our 4 day sojourn so we are up for anything but hopefully there will be some lighter options if we are slowing down.

Healdsburg

Instead of Terra in St Helena which I was really looking forward to,I will be in Healdsburg. Was sad to see Cyrus was closed which would have been my choice. Now I'm trying to decide between, Willi's, Zin, Bistro Ralph, Barndiva and Scopa. What are thoughts on these or is there someplace else I should try?

Visiting a niece who recently moved near CCA in Rockridge.
Any good places to eat on College, maybe walkable?
I hear Soi 4 is good as well as the new Ramen place. She loves all kinds of cuisines.

Sushi Tadokoro

This is a great place! We tried a bunch of fish, all excellent. It has a wonderful atmosphere with great lighting and jazz playing...way warmer than Ota. The itamae is a great guy and advised us to do omakase next time. We sort of did our own test of what we try to judge how good the place is and it was all that. They also have a happy hour til 630 where certain apps and drinks are half price which is great. My better half declared this our new sushi place since the fish is as good as Ota, it's way closer than Kaito, the price is the same but the atmosphere is so much warmer and they definitely do not rush you. Plus, we could get sushi bar reservations for a weekend early in the week instead of planning 2 weeks ahead with Ota. This is why I go on chowhound: to find places like this.

LA Times on North Park

We're heading to dinner there with some friends. We have been to Smoking Goat and loved it as well as Urban Solace. Any other recs? I hear Linkery is not so great anymore and I do not want to patronize a place with mandatory tips. What about Jaynes or Cafe Calabria or even BLAH over in Normal Heights? Something casual and good food and beer selection. Would probably go back to the Goat but their beer menu is a bit limited.
