Long Island Wineries - where to go?

Any new updates? We are heading out in early September from SoCal and I'd love to hear which ones are worth visiting.

Petco park eats-- what's new?

Haven't been to a Padres game in a couple years. Not sure why I'm starting now, given their record! What's there to eat and drink that's decent in the Park?

Pink slime meat in SD

I've been eating less and less meat and have only been getting organic mostly at WF and now I see it was a wise choice. It's a rare day when I get a burger at a restaurant. I have hunters in the family and elk and caribou, honestly harvested and free range, is just so much more appealing to me. Tastes better too.

Pink slime meat in SD

Disturbing article in the UT today about this. Does anyone know about Bristol Farms, Jonathan's and Harvest Ranch markets?

Cornish area

Taking my girl to see Cornish Col arts and plan on some touristy stuff but are there any places for dinner near the school that would be nice and walkable? She likes all cuisines and is not veg. Thanks.

Sushi PB/LJ

No cream cheese or spicy tuna on our list! We ended up trying Mori Sushi at LJ shores. It was really pretty good. Not Ota but not like Mister Sushi has become. Got a seat at the bar and our chef was great and very sweet. Tried a bunch of stuff that we judge these places on: ahi, hamachi, uni, tako, saba. Nice portion size and many came with a bonus of a small sashimi with it. My better half got a rainbow roll w shrimp tempura ....I know but at least no cream cheese!...and it was quite good. Uni was delicious. The only thing i didnt like was instead of wasabi under the fish, they put some kind of wasabi mix on top of the fish that sort of looked like minced jalapenos but tasted like wasabi. It sort of visually disturbed me...whatever. So I will come again when I dont predict over a week in advance I'd like to go to the sushi bar at Ota. By the way, how far in advance do you need reservs for the weekend at Kaito?

Sushi PB/LJ

We love Sushi Ota but you can't hope to get a table, let alone a seat at the Sushi Bar, on a weekend evening without major advance reservations. We lazily forgot to do this and lazily don't feel like driving too far from home but are spoiled by their excellent sushi. We've been to Toshi San but it's been looking deserted lately and it's not a really warm atmosphere. Used to be regulars at Mister Sushi in PB as our go-to decent local place but the service has really fallen off and we've gotten some very mediocre sushi from chefs who know us and should have steered us to other items.
So......anything decent in that PB/LJ radius?

B and B, restaurants near Waitsfield, Warren

From SoCal so half an hour is indeed near!

Thanks, Morganna. That was great!

Ensenada Olive Oil

Try California Olive Ranch. They have a wonderful selection that is very well reputed. If you get on their special list, you get the first dibs on their limited press in October. I buy a bunch and use for us and for special gifts. You can buy their oils at Albertsons and other stores but the special extra virgin is online only.

B and B, restaurants near Waitsfield, Warren

We are from San Diego ....so we prob won't seek out a Mexican place as we are blessed with many delicious ones. Anything uniquely Vermont foods we should do?

Thanks! I hear there are some cheese farms worth visiting too?

Best Mexican in Hillcrest or Anywhere

Really? What did you have? I was there a couple months ago and liked it.

Finger limes

Thanks--I should have guessed Specialty Produce.

Finger limes

are they available anywhere in SD?

Ikea's food market

I haven't been to Ikea in awhile but when I went today I was disappointed how they changed their Swedish food in the market. They used to carry authentic Swedish treats like Kalles, Daim candy, that pungent licorice and some authentic lingonberry preserve brands. But now it's all very boring sounding Ikea products. It's a shame because our Swedish au pairs got us into a lot of these products and now I will have to get them off the internet. That was my biggest attraction for going there.

Gift certificate in Naples area

Thanks! I will choose one of the ones with live jazz. They will love it.

Gift certificate in Naples area

So, uh, turtle club again? No other ideas?

Gift certificate in Naples area

My in-laws live in Naples and love to dine out. I want to get them a gift certificate to a nice restaurant for Christmas. They both like music, especially jazz, so any restaurants that may have music are a plus. In the past, I've gotten them gift certificates to Turtle Club which they loved because of the dining on the beach and Marie Michele's which has closed. Looking for some new ideas. Thanks!

Pacific Beach and Carlsbad

Aaahh, Filippis in PB may not be the finest of cuisine but it is definitely good with a very cozy setting and was a standard when our kids were small. They give each kid a blob of dough on a plate to play with almost as soon as you sit down which leads to a relatively peaceful dining experience. Bahia in BirdRock is very kid friendly and decent cheap Mexican, nice view from the porch. If you want a little higher end Italian which is very kid friendly, Piatti at La Jolla Shores is great plus you can just head on down to the beach after.

San Diego's Best Restaurants Zagat

All interesting comments. So say you all ruled Zagat for a day. What are your top 10 SD?

Birthday Cake

Love Costco cakes.

Toshi-San Sushi and Shabu-Shabu - secret spot?

Did you have reservations for the bar? We've been there when there's 2 people at the bar all night and they refuse to seat us there without reservations. Toshi was one of Ota's chefs who went out on his own and is an excellent sushi chef. He is undermined by his staff though. The waitresses there can be oblivious and almost hostile and I've noticed there are less and less people there. Sushi is good there as is shabu shabu but the service and attitude has driven us away.

Restaurant for anniversary

All great ideas. In LJ, not the most romantic feel of the above, but what's more romantic than excellent French cuisine?

Sushi Ota omakase?

It was great..the best, freshest tasting sushi I've ever had anywhere. We had Ota's second in command as our chef and went w a sushi omakase. We spent $140 w sake, beer and green tea and 15 orders of delectable sushi for two. I thought it was great as the cheaper places serve lots of rice w nigiri and a far inferior quality fish. The only problem is you need reservs way in advance for the sushi bar on weekend so we can't be that spontaneous.

Sushi Ota omakase?

how was it? What did it run? Suggestions?
(kaito is not an option, this is an invitation from a friend)

Visiting Pacific Beach - Need Grandmother friendly restaurant for night out w/o kids

If you like Thai, Narraya on Garnet is a lovely place that would fit the bill. Some of the most gracious waitstaff in SD too.

Suggestions for Sports Arena/Rosecrans/Point Loma Area

Second Tender Greens. I went there for lunch again today and love it! We actually really like Umi Sushi on Shelter Island nearby. Nice place w nice people and fun rolls.

Near(ish) Lewis and Clark vegetarian?

Thanks! Blossoming Lotus sounds great. Ubuntu is a veg restaurant that my carnivore husband loved thoroughly. So if he joins us, I'm hoping to preserve the peace. Any suggestions for restaurants that do veg as well as they do omnivore food? We love all cuisines and are adventurous.
