Im looking for a good baby shower cake.....any suggestions?
Don't know where you are located, but Cakery Bakery in La Canada does a great babyshower cake. They make a really cut one with booties. They will also duplicate the shower invitation/design if it's not too complicated. Their lemon cake is amazing and is always a good choice for an afternoon shower. Their website isn't much to look at, but the place does a nice job for a reasonable price.
Pasadena restaurant for holiday business lunch
I've been to a holiday lunch at Bistro 45. They have a nice private room and I'm pretty sure they would offer a vegetarian menu option.
"Louisiana Seafood" in the SGV?
I was driving along Valley Blvd. in San Gabriel recently and noticed at least 3 places that specialize in "Louisiana Style" seafood (crab, crawfish etc.) Does anyone know why these are popping up in these particular areas? Just curious.
Kitsch/Strange/Weird/Scary Diner in LA?
Damon's in Glendale is kitschy but not really weird. Tacky Hawaiian interior complete with plastic crabs & lobsters hanging in nets tacked to the wall. The best part is they make a really mean Mai Tai. I also have heard that Bahooka in Rosemead is similar in the cheese factor, but I haven't checked it out.
A place to buy Carne Asada on the westside?
Although traditionally nothing beats the carne asada at a really great carneceria, I was surprised at how good the carne asada was at Trader Joe's. It may get pricey for 15 guests though as the package is somewhat small. They also have a Pollo Asado that is always good for those who don't eat cow.
Scarantino's Pasadena - Closing
I was heartbroken when it switched over to Scarantino's from Dino's as they no longer served the great breadsticks that were a must with the best minestrone. I lived on those and the minestrone when I was pregnant. I'm sorry to see it go!
Looking For A Slice Of Pie
Do not be afraid...
Banana Cream at Pie N Burger. Enough said.
Looking for Candy Shops
Fair Oaks Pharmacy in South Pasadena has a great selection of vintage candy and an original Soda Fountain counter. Also, you can try Edelweiss Chocolates 444 N. Canon Drive in Beverly Hills. It's a really old candy shop that's been there FOREVER. Fosselman's is also a good call as someone else already mentioned.
Best Long Beach Pizza?
I have been going to Dominico's in Long Beach forever and I don't think they are related to those in Monrovia or Pasadena ( I live in Pasadena and have tried both). I too love the Long Beach Domenico's pizza. Ask for ground sausage it's much better that the typically blobs served on most pizza's. Don't forget to dip your breadsticks into a hefty carafe of "House Burgundy"!
chocolate croissants in OC or LA
Union Bakery in South Pasadena has excellent chocolate croissants. Supposedly the owner is the previous pastry chef from the Waldorf Astoria in New York. That aside, the croissants are flaky and filled with just the right amount of high quality chocolate. If you get there early in the morning they are still warm and melty inside. Note: They are closed on Mondays.
