where to buy chorizo sausage in winnipeg?

I know this is an old post but if you are still looking I saw some at Dutch Meats on Marion the other day. I haven't tried it yet, but I was happy to find a place that sells it.

Bliss Fine Food - Saskatoon

I have been very excited to try out Bliss and finally got a chance to last Friday. I had very high expectations, which maybe wasn't a good thing since I was a bit underwhelmed. I had a crab cake appetizer, duck breast in a 5-spice pumpkin sauce with mango on a bed of potatoes, and the banana cream pie dessert. Here are my admittedly finicky complaints: the crab cake was a little too 'fishy' tasting, the duck and potatoes were good but the sauce was definitely a unique flavour combination and it came with asparagus that was cooked to death. I enjoyed my dessert and wine very much. I don't mean to say that Bliss isn't good, it is up there with the best we have in Saskatoon, I am just saying there is still a lot of room for improvement in Saskatoon's restaurant scene.

lamb for sale in Saskatoon area?

I LOVE lamb and usually buy boneless roasts or ribs at Costco but the last few times I've gone there wasn't any available and I am going through withdrawal, does anyone know any local lamb producers or somewhere else I could find lamb? I have seen it at the Bulk Cheese Warehouse but haven't splurged yet as it seems very expensive. Thanks!

Pho in Saskatoon?

I like Lien Thanh, at the bottom of the Idylwyld bridge. Yummy food especially pho but not necessarily a place to go for decor.

Is there any good pizza in Saskatoon?

Honestly, no. Well, to be fair I will go to Aroma on Wednesdays for pizza and beer from time to time. I have not tried Houston Pizza so I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly but I have a hell of a time finding a decent pizza in Saskatoon. If anyone could make a great margarita pizza please open a place, I'm sure chefathome and I will come, lol.

I Don't Care If She's Family

I have actually had my MIL give me advice on etiquette. We often have very informal dinners at my inlaws and one day my MIL pulled me aside privately to discuss my "problem" of not knowing how to eat properly. I was so shocked and upset! I must admit I am a small town girl and we weren't taught etiquette at home growing up but I have always prided myself on being very polite, not talking when I eat etc. Her concerns were the fact that I hold my fork in my right hand and my knife in my left and that I didn't hold my knife properly. She said she was "worried for my future" and thought she should let me as she thought it could give people a bad impression and jeapordize my chances in things like a job interview. At the time I was so upset I just said nothing, I was dumbfounded. I like to think that people wouldn't be ashamed/horrified to eat with me. Later my husband told me that he had never noticed anything different about how I ate. I'm trying to chalk it up to her being a conservative old Scottish woman, but I'm still upset about it. What are your thoughts?

saskatoon?

Greek in Saskatoon is so very wrong, don't do it. Unless you want icky dry ribs and sloppy caesar salad. It's embarrasing, I don't think people in Saskatoon know what Greek food is. Although, I have been hearing rumors that Koutouki Taverna is more authentic? I make no promises though.

BBQ causes cancer...new twist

Hi porker (it sounds so weird saying that), I am trained as a toxicologist and have a background of studying these types of compounds. This is VERY sensationalized news. You must be from the states, lol. Your news seems very sensationalized overall. While it is true that charred meat does have some undesirable compounds formed in it (PAHs, etc), your body is able to detoxify the VAST majority of them and excrete them in a harmless form. You body is truly amazing. If you eat large quantities of charred foods there is more of a chance that something will not be detoxified and could potentially cause a mutation that could eventually lead to cancer, but that would be rare. Besides the same family of compounds that is being produced in charred foods is produced when you burn wood in a fire or when you burn gas in a car. We are already exposed to these sorts of compounds every day. I just want to let you know you can eat your meat however you like (in moderation of course). If you are worried about cancer, just be sure to eat all those amazing fruits and veggies that help your body to detoxify potential carcinogens. Hopefully, this answers your questions. I hate hearing that the news is scaring people.
Best wishes,
Barbara McEwen

Do you add salt to boiled water for pasta?

Good, smart people on this site. I'm with ya, lots of salt, no oil! People need to learn this it makes a huge difference in taste. Mmmm, I'm getting hungry just thinking of nice salted pasta!
I've also heard it should taste salty, like the ocean.

I never eat _______ out because nobody makes it right but me.

Rack of lamb
I can't take credit for it, my husband makes the most amazing BBQ'd rack of lamb. I always get excited when I see it since on a menu, I just LOVE lamb, but it's just always a let down compared to home. Even when the flavors are good it is often overcooked.

Mushroom and Carrot Bulgur

This was my first adventure into using bulgur and I really enjoyed it. I also used chicken stock and the flavor was great. I was actually kind of worried the recipe wouldn't be flavorful enough for me (I like things bold and exciting!) but this was surprisingly tasty.

Do any online ingredient/spice stores deliver to CANADA?

Thanks, I've gone to Saba's as well. It's very good. I have thought of asking them too, I just hope they won't be too disappointed I'm not eating all my African food there! I also asked because I am looking for a variety of other spices/ingredients as well. I should specify we do have small Asian and Indian grocery stores which are a great help but I'm still searching for a lot of things.

Looking for a great Saskatchewan food product, farmer or chef

I'm from Saskatoon, Sk. and all the good restaurants I like to go to seem to like serving Pine View Farms (PVF) Meats. I'm not sure what their claims are exactly but I think the gist of it is to serve natural (no meds or hormones etc.), Saskatchewan raised animals. They have a good website so you could check that out.

Do any online ingredient/spice stores deliver to CANADA?

I am from Saskatoon, SK. and I often find it very difficult to find all the ingredients I need for cooking ethnic food or even a lot of regular fare! I've been looking into buying ingredients (especially spices) online, but these sites often only ship within the U.S. Is there anywhere I could get say berbere or other similar items sent to me here in Canada?
Thanks!

Where can I buy Mizithra cheese in Edmonton, Saskatoon or Regina?

I love mizithra on green beans cooked with butter and garlic. I make it a lot when I'm camping. I suppose it's sort of like a parmesan? I don't know how to explain it really but it's good.
