Comme Ca for Dinner this Weekend -- Recommendations?
The paleron is outstanding. I also enjoyed the beef stroganoff and coq au vin as well.
Minestraio tonight - any recommendations?
I'm going to Minestraio tonight for the first time with my boyfriend. We are planning on ordering a few pasta dishes and skipping the entrees and appetizers altogether.
Any pasta recommendations or must orders at Gino Angelini's new digs?
Thank you so much!
Need Westside suggestions for bday dinner with baby--Italian Preferred

First Date Suggestions
I'm assuming you mean $ 70 to include tax, tip and drinks. The following are places that I've gone on dates that have fallen into that price range that I enjoyed:
My go-to date place is Magnolia at Sunset and Vine -good food, good ambiance and reasonably priced
Boho has great ambiance and is very reasonably priced. I went on a date there last week
Velvet Margarita - the $15 soup/salad and entree combo can't be beat and you can spend your money on margaritas. No reservations but they have a bar area
Lola's for dinner and martinis. The martinis are about 10 bucks a pop but you only need a couple and the food is reasonably priced as well.
El Compadre has good reasonably priced mexican food. They do not take reservations but its fun to hang out in the bar area and watch the mariachi band.
Brunello in Culver City - good italian food and very reasonably priced and you can actually hear your date speak
The Courtyard - Spanish tapas with a lovely outdoor patio
Tinto - also Spanish tapas
Looking for a trendy Mexican restaurant in West Hollywood / Beverly Hills area
If you don't mind driving a bit farther east to Hollywood, Velvet Margarita might fit the bill
Birthday Dinner suggestions?
Also I forgot - Violet and Tinto are fun as well. Tinto is walking distance from Bar Lubitsch down the street if you want a good vodka concoction afterwards and some dancing.
Birthday Dinner suggestions?
I'm not sure what area of the city you would like to go to, and much more importantly, how much you would like to spend, but...I've been on a few lovely dates at Primitivo in Venice, Tasca on 3rd near La Cienega and Cobras and Matadors near the Grove. None of these restaurants will break the bank but you will not look "cheap" at any of them. My first choice out of the bunch is Primitivo.
Dinner in Hollywood
My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the potato pizza last time we were there. The burger looked good and I will probably try that next time
Pizzeria Mozza: as good as they say?
There are different types of pizza (NY, Chicago, etc) and each type has its own attributes. Pizzeria Mozza is like it's own genre of pizza - enjoy it for what it is, and I personally find it to be VERY enjoyable.
Dinner in Hollywood
I've also really been enjoying Boho, both the ambiance and the food, next to the Arclight.

Dinner in Hollywood
Tony's Italian Steakhouse. Reviews here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/599442
Tony's Italian Steakhouse (West Hollywood)
I ended up going to Tony's on Saturday night with my boyfriend, his brother and their mother. The ambiance was lovely - large black leather booths and candles all up and down the walls. There is a pianist as well which was a nice touch and which was never too loud that I could not hear my dining companions.
We started with the arancine and the burratta appetizers. Both were delicious. The arancine were larger than what I'm used to but were very good, stuffed with fontina cheese, peas and ham. The burratta was lovely - a large creamy dollop in the center of the plate surrounded by 4 crostinis and slices of tomato. We cleaned the plate completely. I had the 6 oz filet which was possibly one of the best filets I have ever had - perfectly seasoned, juicy and tender. My boyfriend had the special - blackened prime rib and proclaimed it the best piece of meat he has ever had. I tried it and it was outstanding. Fortunately my filet was wonderful as well so I didn't feel the need to eat his food. The entrees were served with mashed potatoes which we all enjoyed, glazed carrots (I found them to be bland) and broccolini which were seasoned and delicious. I did not try the brussel sprouts, but my boyfriend's mother loved hers. The prices are unbelievable. My filet, with the sides was $25. The special prime rib was the most expensive item on the menu at $28.
The service was a bit slow, but fortunately we were in no rush. It was about 2/3 full by the time we left at around 10pm, which is a crime because this restaurant is a holy grail for delicious food at reasonable prices in the middle of West Hollywood. Tony came around and said hello and was very friendly. He also had a special burger on the menu which he said he spent about a year figuring out the prime portions of beef to combine to make the patty. He was very proud of it and disappointed that we had not ordered it. I assured him that I would take my parents in the next 2 weeks to come back and try the burger and I will surely make good with my promise to return because I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
Everyone really needs to go out and try this restaurant. It would be an awful shame if it closed becasue we need more restaurants like this in the city.
Tony's Italian Steakhouse (West Hollywood)
I was wondering if anyone else had some reviews to share? I'm considering going to Tony's next weekend with my boyfriend and his mother to meet her for the first time. She is visiting from Maryland.
Need to find a great place for a girls night out dinner in the Hollywood area
Cafe W as. Went there with some girlfriends a few weeks ago and it was alot of fun.
drinks in west hollywood?
I know I'm late, but in the Hollywood area I usually do first dates at Lola's or The Well. Both have nice ambiance, good drinks and some appetizers.
Boneyard Bistro Strikes the Perfect Note Again
I concur. I have never had a bad meal at Boneyard and Aaron is adorable and sweet. My only gripe is that it's in the Valley and I live over the hill!
Friday Night Hollywood-area Date Place?
I don't think you can beat Magnolia for a fun reasonably priced date place in Hollywood. Other options are Velvet Margarita, Citizen Smith, Geisha House, Bella, Cafe des Artistes, Jones. I've never been, but there is that new Italian place, Delancey, on Sunset near Gower as well (same owner as Bowery Bar)
What's your most recent WOW! Moment at an LA restaurant?
I completely concur with the fennel sausage balls and the fennel sausage pizza as a whole at Mozza. Outstanding.
Where can I find the best crab cake?
I love the crab cake at Hungry Cat. Now I'm hungry...
SFV- for dinner tonight
Re: Alcazar, i am a non-smoker and I've never had a problem with a smoke smell, but I've always sat inside. I'm sure if you sat outside that might be a problem. I think the food there is delicious and their hummus is fantastic, similar to the Sabra brand I buy in Gelsons but better.
Need rec's for good chow in Westwood for Thursday night dinner
There is an italian place 3 blocks south of Wilshire that I love. The food is good, the ambiance is warm and homey and it is reasonably priced. http://www.pomodorowestwood.com\
Mini-review: Crêpe X-Press, Sherman Oaks Fashion Square
I have tried several of their savory and sweet crepes and have always had a good experience.
Crepe in the Valley.
There is also a creperie in the Fashion Square food court in Sherman Oaks, on Riverside Drive between Hazeltine and Woodman. It is actually pretty good, reminds me of the creperie in the Farmer's Market at 3rd and Fairfax.
Thai Food Around Sherman Oaks Tonight?
I'm meeting a friend in Sherman Oaks for dinner tonight. Does anyone have any recommendations for Thai restaurants in the area, preferably on Ventura Blvd.?
Thanks!
valley pizza
I love Caioti Pizza Cafe on Tujunga, south of Moorpark. It's more of a gourmet California type pizza with toppings like BBQ chicken, rosemary potatoes, etc. Delicious.
