Food Recs in Mendoza, Ushuaia, El Calafate and Buenos Aires

Hello fellow chowhounds!

My husband and I are going to Mendoza, Ushuaia, El Calafate and BA for a couple of weeks, and would love some recommendations on where to eat. We were in El C and BsAs three years ago, but this is our first time to Mendoza and Ushuaia, and we would like to make the most of our meals in each place. Also, while we know the beef is phenomenal, it would be great to have some suggestions that aren't simply steakhouses/asadors. We'll be spending Thanksgiving in Mendoza, so any special recommendations for that meal would be really helpful too!

Thanks very much for any guidance you can provide!

Advice please

Hi there:

Just curious, who did you use for the taco catering party? I am looking for recommendations (I have already searched the boards on CHOW), because the guy I used in the past has raised his prices significantly.

Please let me know! Thanks!

ONE brunch and ONE dinner in Seattle

Hi Chowhounders:

This board has provided some great guidance for my upcoming visit to Seattle with my husband--maybe TOO much great guidance! So my question is this:

We are making a very short visit that will allow for one dinner and one brunch. I am a vegetarian (I eat dairy and eggs) and the husband is an omnivore. We're staying downtown near Pike Place, and we'd like to eat at places that are a good reflection of the region food- and wine-wise, with nice atmospheres and friendly attitudes. Walk or short cab ride/public transit are fine.

Based on a recommendation that I saw here, I have made a reservation for dinner at Union--but am unsure whether they do the veggie tasting menu all the time or just occasionally.

So, what are your #1 choices that fit these criteria? The others can wait until our next visit to your beautiful city. Thanks so much in advance!

Ladies' Weekend in Scottsdale and Sedona

Hi everyone:

I'm looking for a few recommendations in Scottsdale for this weekend. We've been to Roaring Fork, Cowboy Ciao and Lecca Baffi (a little italian place) and love all of them. We'd be happy to go back to any of these but also happy to try something new.

We like: Moderate pricing (not Mary Elaine's please) and a nice-casual environment. Everything in this category is fair game. We're staying at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge, so we realize everything will be a drive.

Especially interested in a brunch/breakfast places that are NOT hotel based buffets.

Finally, we plan to take a drive to Sedona one of the days, so any recommendations for lunch or dinner would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Father's Office 2 open yet?

They do takeout at the original, but not call-in orders. So you still have to brave the crowd to even place your order.

Better source for Argentine-style beef and foodstuffs-Mercado Buenos Aires or El Gaucho?

Hi everyone!

I'm hosting a big party this weekend and need to purchase 20 lbs or so of skirt steak and some chimichurri sauce. I know that I can get these both at Mercado Buenos Aires in Van Nuys and El Gaucho Meat Market in Redondo Beach. The latter is a little more expensive--$1 per pound more. Does anyone out there have experience/opinions about one or both places that would help me to choose between the two? El Gaucho is more expensive, but is it worth it, or is the price just due to the better location?

I would appreciate any advice that fellow chowhounds might have. Thanks, and happy new year!
