Restaurant Closings in 2012

tried to get a banh mi sandwich at Bai Le on MacKay, but she has closed up shop due to rent increases.

Looking for a good food delivery service in Montreal.

Openings in 2012

This project is slated to open early this year, maybe February? http://1tableasthenri.com/
In the same area a Fresh and Fabulous pizza joint is well on its way to opening its doors and I've heard rumors of a take out sushi shop opening near Courcelle on Notre Dame.

Joe Beef - Gift Certificate

Most restaurant gift certificates I've seen do have this policy and most restaurants don't actually enforce it, except perhaps for the gratuity.

Where can I buy ezekiel bread in Montreal

IGA also stocks it, as does Eden at Parc and Prince Arthur.

Sunday Delivery Blues

that sounds great, unlaced

Sunday Delivery Blues

I can wait until 5:30pm, but I am in St. Henri and having the same problem. I'm studying for my wine exam and need food! No time to cook. (Time to search for delivery on the internet, though...).
I cannot abide by MakMak.

Christmas meals in restaurants

A friend of mine at Gibby's assures me they will be open for business Christmas Eve and Christmas...

Soft Shell Crab

Imadake has it on the regular menu if I recall correctly.

Restaurant Closings in 2011

looks like i was misinformed about the Pekarna, but SAQ is definitely leaving, it was in the Gazetter earlier this year. part of the same decision that has them moving out of westmount square and closing the atwater market mini locale.

Great food in or near Westmount?

Tuck Shop is not far from Westmount - at Notre Dame and Courcelle. Every meal I've had there has been good.

Restaurant Closings in 2011

yeah, the forum obviously has a big plan - the SAQ, guido's, burgers and benedicts, pekarna have all given up their leases. i doubt it's a food court - grocery store for all those incoming condos?

Tuesday night Vegetarian friendly on budget?

My husband is a strict vegetarian and we rarely spend more than 35$/pp on meals (unless we indulge in that extra cocktail).
We eat well for that at:
Kazu, while perfect for what you're looking for is closed on Tuesdays.
Imadake - we split a ton of stuff, ramen, salads, tofu, etc plus a beer or two each. It's good fun.
Magpie is good, but for the money, I would go to Bottega on St. Zotique.
A feast can be had at Moti Mehal, Curry and Naan or Maison Indian Curry (is it currently closed for renos?) for 40$ including drinks.

Where to go with picky eaters who don't know that they are - Montreal

I have to agree with the Lemeac suggestion. Another plus is that every time I've been there, the service has been so great, there was no room to complain about anything.

I don't know how many of you there are, but another little gem to try out would be Tuck Shop in St. Henri. There is always fish on the menu (perhaps advise them of the kosher need if you make a reservation there as sometimes they put bacon in the fish dishes). There is usually a steak, the place is gorgeous, the service lovely and every time I go with my vegetarian husband, they are very accommodating.

Very odd Portuguese grilled chicken experience

This is not a very helpful review unless you name the establishment.

Lunch spots - St-Henri

I tried Campanelli today and while I found it a bit pricey, I also thought it was quite good. I split the brie/apple sandwich and the vege pate sandwich with my man. I didn't think to ask if they offer anything other than white rolls, but I will see about whole wheat options next time. I've got a zucchini muffin and an almond blueberry muffin waiting here for later. Found the service friendly and the place adorable. Glad to have an addition to the St. Henri lunch scene.

Donuts/Doughnuts

Just a heads up that Jane Donut has lost a partner (not the donut-making one) and taken on a new name. Saint Donut will be at Puces POP next weekend and also at the free Arcade Fire show next week. Rachel is aiming for a fall open for her own shop but needs all the support she can get in the meantime!

Cooking Classes in Montreal - Fall 2011

has anybody here taken a bread making class? i'd like to get one for my husband. he's been working on it for a while, but he's never had anybody actually show him techniques.

Lunch in St-Henri / Centre Sud / Griffintown

check out this thread about st henri: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/784162
I still have a problem finding good spots for lunch around here.
Don't forget Giffintown Cafe (they have a nice little lunch menu), Burgundy Lion is open for lunch, the crepes at the Atwater Market are good (especially when the satay line is too long!).
Cafe Mariani on Notre Dame has some good sandwiches and salads and beer on tap.

Tall order - 18 for lunch around McGill

Newtown has a good lunch table d'hote and could seat 18 for lunch with a reservation.

Labour Day last minute dinner - please help!

Griffintown is closed on Mondays. Lemeac is open Mondays and is excellent. Imadake as cherylmtl suggested is fun, but it sounds like run_mtl is looking for something a bit more refined.
How many in your group?

what about Maria Bonita on Casgrain? Is it still open?

Montreal high end good food and ambience restaurant that serves also nice non-meat non-fish main courses for a vegetarian in our group? Please help!!

I would recommend Tuck Shop on Notre Dame in St. Henri. Great food and service. Lovely atmosphere, always a vegetarian main on the menu. Usually pasta, but homemade and well done. Nice, ever-evolving wine list and they know how to make a cocktail. About 50$/person before wine/tip/tax.

Restaurant Closings in 2011

Noticed this week that Bangkok 2 on St Catherine near St. Mathieu has closed for good.

New Outdoor Section @ Atwater Market

I have tried the Satay Bros vegetarian bun, it was simple but delicious. I'll have to try some of their other stuff.
Also picked up a lobster roll, while pricey, I actually found it to be delicious, but at 12$ for just the roll, lunch gets a bit expensive.
The crepes are absolutely delicious. Nice big sarrasin crepes, I tried the spinach/egg/cheese combo and the apple/cheese/maple syrup combo. Great stuff.
The smoothies are horrendous. Tried the blueberry one, advertised almond milk, made with cow's milk. Warm and completely tasteless.

Donuts/Doughnuts

i'm friends with the woman behind jane donut, i will let the board know when the shop is on its way!

Do I need a reservation for Les 3 Brasseurs

you should always make a reservation for 8 people, no matter the restaurant. in fact, as most restos need to pull two tables together for a group of 5, i'd suggest calling for anything over 4 people even if the restaurant accepts walk-ins.
also: why on earth are you going to les 3 brasseurs?

Lunch spots - St-Henri

I tried Cafe Baci this morning and cannot say I recommend it. It's not terrible, but it's certainly not great. I shared the california wrap and the cheddar sandwich with my dining partner. Sandwich was very heavy on the dijon, wrap was, well, a wrap. Came with choice of salad. We both took the green salad - undressed lettuce with grated carrot, cucumber and tomato. Everything was fresh, nothing was delicious. Ordered an americano and an allonge, both were done very short.
