One Sandwich for Every American City
I'ts been quite a few years since I've been up that way, but if my hazy memory serves me right, it's a ranch-type sauce. As far as how awful the pics look- they look far worse in person.
One Sandwich for Every American City
I almost forgot about the taco meat grinder at the Red Pepper in Grand Forks, ND. They're actually pretty terrible, but for some reason they're legendary up there. I guess if you're drunk enough and put enough white sauce on them they're passable.
One Sandwich for Every American City
I'm going to get a lot of guff for this, but a reuben from Crescent Moon in Omaha, NE. Right down the street where it was (supposedly) invented.
The Manliest Restaurant in America?
Bob's Bar in Martinsburg, NE. It's in a tiny farming community, is filthy as all can be, and packed with locals drinking cheap beer. Their food is also legendary- giant burgers and huge portions of deep fried goodness. This place is so manly, my girlfriend got pregnant the first time we went there.
your best deviled eggs please
Bleu cheese and horseradish are awesome in deviled eggs. I'll try to post my recipe later.
What's the oldest thing in your fridge?
My shelves are pretty old- probably at least 10 years.
Chislic?
Ah yes, chislic! Back in my hometown in NE Nebraska it was a very common dish served on Husker game day. We always had an abundance of venison so we ate a lot of it. Typically, it was just cubed, deep-fried venison done medium-rare. While it cooled, it was sprinkled with either garlic salt or Lawrys. Many people also like to dip it in ranch dressing (not me, though).
OMAHA FOOD TRIP
Some of my Omaha favs:
Dixie Quicks for lunch. Awesome food, I have something different every time and it is always great. Definately call ahead for reservations.
M's Pub for late-night dining and drinks. Great atmosphere and very good food. Try the lavosh.
Mark's Bistro is also very good. I have only eaten there once, and enjoyed it very much. I had a wonderful carrot curry ginger soup. Their big seller is homemade mac n cheese with two different chef's embellishments that change daily.
Espana for decent tapas and sangria. This place is a bit of a hit-or-miss, but the hits are VERY good.
Sushi Japan for sushi. Very good selection and delicious.
Vincenzo's is pretty good Italian, and I am addicted to their soups.
Wheatfields has the absolute best breakfast in town.
Shucks has surprisingly great seafood. Seriously the best and freshest seafood I have had (except on the West Coast).
Guaca Maya has the tastiest and most authentic Mexican food in Omaha. Try the parrilladas or the Huanchinango a la Talla.
Jaipur has very tasty Indian food and they brew their own beer. Try the Jalepeno Ale.
The Bohemian Cafe has VERY heavy and delicious Czech food.
Whew. I know I probably forgot a few, but this should give you a bit to choose from.
Bizarre Foods Cancelled-Review of Zimmern's new show
I've always liked the guy and wish his new show luck.
Best movie theatre butter topping?
I absolutely love the Orville Pour-Over Movie Theatre Butter variety of popcorn. Each bag comes with its own packet of butter-like substance to pour over after popping. It may not contain any real butter, but it's delicious.
is it safe to roast fish in mayo?
There's a Mexican restaurant here in town that serves whole red snapper baked in mayo. It is insanely good.
What defines a 'black' walnut versus a green one?
My grandpa spent his evenings in front of the radio and a bench vice. Because of this, we all had plenty of black walnuts to go around. They are an essential ingredient in my mother's banana bread.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF INVITED FOR DINNER AND THE MEAT WAS EXTRA SALTY
I WOULD PROBABLY EAT IT ANYWAYS AND NOT SAY A WORD
Sorry, had to respond in the manner that I read the question.
I-80: CO-NE-IA-IL-IN-OH Leg of CC Drive
I just posted this in another thread. Since you have a baby with you, I would probably leave M's Pub, Marks Bistro, and Espana off the list.

Whew. I know I probably forgot a few, but this should give you a bit to choose from. Also, what area are you staying in and do you have access to a car? That might factor in your selection as Omaha has a poor public transit system.
In search of perfect home-made hash browns
At a steakhouse I used to work at, we used the leftover baked potatoes from the day before. They were delicious.
Other uses for cocktail sauce?
Cut up some kielbasa and throw into a crock pot with the cocktail sauce and a bit of brown sugar. Simmer for an hour or so and enjoy!
Baked beans with canned beans?
When I'm in a pinch, I tend to do something very similar. I don't have a set recipe- I just keep tinkering with things until they taste good.
Hell's Kitchen-Hopefully spoilers
Nobody got sent home- at the end one of the contestants flipped out and tried to take Ramsay out to the parking lot. It ended at a cliffhanger- SURPRISE!
I feel so dirty watching this show.
favorite potato chips
When I lived up in North Dakota I greatly enjoyed Dakota Style chips, especially the bbq and sour cream & cheddar.
On a side note, they also used to make these cheese poofs that were more cheese than poof. Sooooooo good.
best HOMEMADE pastrami (Carnegie deli worthy) anywhere in the U.S.
"Any hidden gems out there?
A hideaway in South Dakota that makes great pastrami, lol ?"
Actually, there is a place here in Omaha called Brewburgers that makes awesome Montreal-style pastrami.
They were recently featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Check out their website- it has the video on it.

sushi rolls...your favorite, who, what, where and why.
I'm a big fan of veggie rolls with cucumber, red pepper, avocado and cream cheese. Philadelphia rolls are also good. My favorite, though, has to be the Crunchy Blue at Blue Sushi in Omaha- crab salad and cilantro inside rice, topped with tempura flakes and eel sauce. Best thing is, it's only $4 during their happy hour.
I don't eat alot of rolls with raw fish in them. I just find that the flavor and texture gets drowned out by everything else. For raw fish, I just stick to my sashimi and nigiri.
Cucumber Ideas
Yup, that's my go-to as well. I like to add sliced red onion and green pepper as well.
Any good eats in Omaha?
Dixie Quicks, Wheatfields, Espana, M's Pub, and La Buvette are among my favorites.
I just recently tried out Shucks Fish House, and I HIGHLY recommend it. Some of the best seafood I've had anywhere in the country.
I have a ton of cucumbers!
Some of my favorites:
Cucumber sandwiches.
Cucumber salad with tomatoes, feta or fresh mozzarella, green onion, basil, olive oil, and basalmic.
Cucumber salad with sour cream, onion, dill, and s&p
treat for post 75 mile road bike ride
Seriously, nothing tastes better after a long ride than an ice cold beer.
Any good eats in Omaha?
What area of town are you going to be staying in? Will you have a car? Are you willing to travel a bit for a good meal?
