Kosher Prepared Pesto
Cholon (Holon?) a grocery store on Kings Highway in Brooklyn (around E 4th or E 5th St) sells fresh pesto that I think they make or get from someone who makes it fresh, not processed. i can't remember if they sell it refrigerated or frozen, but it is much better and fresher tasting than Sabra's pesto.
Catered hotel weekend in NY area
any ideas for a caterer for that location (or any other)? are there any local takeout food stores that cater small events? any suggestions would be appreciated.
Catered hotel weekend in NY area
I'm looking for a place to spend a Shabbat with extended family- around 15-20 adults plus kids. We want to go to a hotel, but are interested in having catered Shabbat meals (glatt kosher) instead of bringing takeout and hot plates for that many people. It has to be somewhere within reasonable driving distance of the NY metropolitan area, but we don't want to stay in the city. Any ideas for a location and/or a caterer or restaurant that would fit this description?
Brooklyn Heights...
It sounds like you are referring to The Pastrami Box. That restaurant is long gone. If I am wrong and someone knows of a kosher deli in downtown Brooklyn, please share.
cakes via the mail?
I spoke to someone at the Kof-k. They are certifying Junior's (the cheesecakes, not the restaurant), but because some of the cakes being sold may have been made before they got the certification, you should only rely on cakes that have the Kof-k symbol on the box or on the shipping box.
The Chocolate Girl - Park Slope
Here is the blurb from Time Out New York- looks like there is some sort of cafe. I haven't been there yet, but would be interested in reactions from anyone who has.
TONY- The Chocolate Girl Tziporah Azigayil Jaeger, a.k.a. the Chocolate Girl-,-has transformed a one-woman sweets operation into this mini chocolate factory. The three-story space boasts two floors of kosher choco-production (there’s a glass-enclosed molding room) and a ground-level retail shop and café that offers a menu of cocoa-heavy bites, including molten chocolate cake. 383 Seventh Ave between 11th and 12th Sts, Park Slope, Brooklyn (718-788-4475)
Talia's To Go
Just an update- I waited until today and checked my credit card bill online. Sure enough, I was charged for my order. I called and asked for the manager. He was very apologetic and said no one had ever conveyed my problem to him. He also said he had just completed new training for the staff and expected things to be working better. He promised to process the refund to my credit card and offered to send complimentary dinner for tonight. I accepted his offer and just received the delivery. He sent more than I asked for but- missed one of the things I asked for. So, they still don't have it totally together, but I guess they deserve some credit for dealing with the problem. Maybe I'll even try them again in the future, the food is actually pretty good. And hopefully I will see the credit on my account soon.
Talia's To Go
I'm not usually a big complainer, but I had such a horrible experience with them yesterday I felt compelled to post. I ordered from Talia's to Go yesterday at around 6:15 p.m. They took my order and estimated I would get it within a half hour- seemed reasonable. Over an hour went by, and they didn't show up, so I called back to check on my order. OK, it's New Year's Eve, maybe they were busier than they expected. But the person I spoke to had no answers for me- he took my name and number and said he would get back to me. About 35 minutes went by, still nothing, and no return phone call either. I called back again. They put me on hold for a while, and finally told me they would get back to me. I told them that was unacceptable and I wanted to hold until they could figure out what was going on. So they kept me on hold a little while longer, finally someone came to the phone to tell me they were sorry, but a manager would call me back to discuss compensation. When I asked if my credit card had been charged, he couldn't tell me one way or the other. But he admitted the food wasn't coming, and did not offer to redo the order- which by that time, over two hours after ordering, I wouldn't have wanted anyway.
Now here it is, 16 hours later, and of course I haven't heard from anyone at Talia's.
I can understand a busy New Year's Eve, and a delay in a delivery. I can even understand sometimes an order gets messed up or lost, although that should not happen. But what was really ridiculous was their response to me when I told them what was going on. We'll call you back is not an answer- just redo the order and send it out immediately. And then not even calling back- that's where it gets beyond ridiculous to completely incompetent. That's what drove me to actually share this experience here- people should know what they can expect from this place, and just not order from there in the first place.
