Where to buy head-on shrimp and live dungeness crab?

I agree with Sun Fat. I have yet to be disappointed. They're helpful as well as having good product.

Dinner near the TLA... with three old men

Found the food at Gnocci mediocre. The place was empty while next door was packed. That is usually a sign.

Xiao Long Bao - Shanghai style soup dumplings

You won't find the depth in the broth at the places here you find at Joe's, or at least I haven't found that kind of delicious flavour. What I have found as a nice solution is Kingdom of Chinese Dumpling. They make them and sell them out of freezers in the front of the store. Their website has directions on how to prepare them and I eat them with dipping sauce I make from black vinegar and ginger I julienne. It isn't perfect, but it is very tasty.

Dim Sum in Dallas?

Shanghai's xlb can't even hold a candle to my beloved Yao Fuzi. They're xlb do not have enough soup, they are too big and they don't have that delicate flavour that Yao Fuzi has. The skin there is thin and instead of blk. vinegar they serve it w/ rice vinegar. This really keeps them light and doesn't overpower the beautiful flavour. I also really dig on their fried halibut. The pork served w/ whole wheat buns and the soft shelled crab dishes are also not to be missed.

Dim Sum in Dallas?

How sad that the xlb were not outstanding. I have had so many exemplary experiences there that I am taken aback by that statement. My first experience w/ them was @ Joe's Shanghai on Pell in nyc, and I fell in love w/ them. When I moved to Dallas I searched for 5 years before I found this gem. When I went back to nyc and visited Joe's they were still delicious, but Yao Fuzi really gives them a run for their money. Now in SF I have tried them, but they were not as good. I suggest going back, telling Chris that Dave and Heather sent you and see how delicious, juicy and delicate these really are. We always sit at the bar and we always get top notch food and service.

Any serious BBQ to recommend in SF/Bay Area? Hosting a Texas native - and need to impress.

why give a texan something they can get at home? i would suggest some seafood (swan is great), something not often seen in tx. or perhaps some delicious italian. however if you're determined to BBQ don't take them for brisket that is the kind of BBQ they are know for.

Dallas BBQ and Mexican

That is a shame. You would've enjoyed Sonny Bryan's on Harry Hines. Coming from Philly, all my guests have loved it and licked their fingers till the very end. Moist, flavorful and a fine BBQ sauce.

Dallas BBQ and Mexican

I suggest Mi Cocina. I know people are trying to suggest some super authentic best around, but I like Mi Cocina. It is consistently good. Have brisket tacos, you can't go wrong. The one I am referring to is on MacArthur in las colinas.

[DFW] Who has the best Peking Duck?

I agree w/ May Dragon. Peking Duck 3 ways is the traditional way of serving it. It is very nice. I would certainly go ahead and give that try. While you're there you may as well as have the 3 ingredient soup, also very good.

joe's shanghai

Was just there a few weeks ago and in addition to both kinds of XLB (soup dumplings) we also had the double cooked pork. No need to be adventurous to enjoy this dish. Neither one of us had had it before and it was delicious.

Can Pizza Be Better in Burbs than Center City?

I am a huge fan of Tony & Joe's in Conshohocken. My husband a pizza snob from NY said that all the time he spent in college in Philly he never really found a slice he loved. When we were in town visiting my family I took him over to Tony & Joe's for slice. Needless to say he's a fan. Tell him to give that place a try.

My SO would throw a fit over a bad martini. He did on our wedding night in fact. Thanks for that tid bit of info. plus it doesn't sound like jasper's is "all that," even for ribs.

Park City Eats

I meant more like straight from the mountain, but not at the bottom. kobe beef and elk loin sounds more like dinner at 8:30pm. We are wanting yummy snacks that consist of more than wings and nachos and beer from plastic cups. A good bar that is a little off beat perhaps.

Jasper's In Plano

The price wasn't really a deterrent, I just thought that if they cost $25 and they're ribs they better be some damn good ribs. I assume $15 is for a 1/2 rack. Were the ribs just good or would you say some of the best you've had?

Jasper's In Plano

Yeah I saw that, but nobody really mentions that the ribs are amazing, or the burgers are delicious. I have also seen that their mac n chz is the best in a posting about the best mac n chz. I'm really most interested about ribs and burgers there, and if another recommendation comes out of it then that's cool too.

Park City Eats

My SO and I will be in Park City in a couple weeks. We will be with his parents mostly, but after a day on the mountain the two of us have our time to chill out, grab a bite and a drink. What good options are out there that do not include a family atmosphere, but do include good snacks and drink specials (not necessary, but a plus)?

Jasper's In Plano

Can anyone tell me about Jasper's in Plano? I read that Bon Appetite magazine awarded it one of the top 5 ribs in the country and the chef was going to appear on iron Chef. The ribs are $25, are they worth it? And has anyone had their burgers? My SO and I like to go to fine steakhouses, sit at the bar and order burgers. We find that often they make really great burgers. At Jasper's for an additional charge you can get Wagyu. Is a Wagyu burger that great? If you can recommend anything else as being out of this world divine I'd love to hear about it/them too.

Chinese Food in Dallas

We did take out @ First Chinese for the first time (the first time having anything from them ever) and it was delicious. The two noodle soups we ordered we great. We had the fresh shrimp wonton noodle soup and the pork and duck noodle soup. Both were fabulous. The wontons are large pieces of shrimp wrapped in a wonton. It could be the best wonton I have ever had. However once we added a little hot oil and soy sauce the flavours in the broth were really accentuated making the soups even better. BBQ is in their name for a reason. We got the BBQ pork and duck which were marvelous. Also got flat beef noodles on a recommendation and enjoyed them a lot too. Good overall experience.

Best Soup/Chowder/Stew/Bisque in D/FW

I have been ill a lot recently and the soups and I have been craving soups. Currently I am enjoying matzo ball soup from Deli News and Cindi's on Campbell. (Not mamma's, but good nonetheless.) And to get the sinus' going tortilla soup from Mi Cocina. I like to add fresh sliced jalapeƱos. The broth has good flavor and the combo of the other ingredients is proportionally mixed. I thought I like the tortilla soup @ On The Border, but I was wrong it sucks, at least the one in las Colinas. Went w/ some friends for lunch and the all of us received our soup luke warms and not that great. the tortilla strips far out numbered everything else as well as absorbing all the broth. Booooooooooooooo.

[DFW] Need Rec - Romantic, less than $100, delicious..

In the future you may also want to consider Lavendou, on Preston. I had forgotten all about it, but went on Friday. It was just as I remember, outstanding food (mussels for an app. and a wonderful steak au poivre for me and escargot and a fabulous veal dish for my SO), amazing waiter (he remembered the martini) and a very romantic atmosphere.

Do not go to Bistro Nous!!!! The food was awful last time I went. The ceviche was warm, which is scary and gross. I ordered the fish dish from the menu and received the special, which my SO ate. And the steak my SO ordered was burnt on the outside, which is tough to do when the inside is rare.

Anything good in Valley Forge-King of Prussia???

I most definitely agree with the recommendation of Creed's. However California Cafe in the mall can be very tasty as well. Depends on your palate.

Grimaldi's - Dallas

Is it possible that the tomatoes and peppers were too heavy for a true NY thin crust? I find that their margarita, white and pepperoni pizzas have all been dynamite. The crust was nice and thin and I could hold them easily in my hand. However as I have not YET been to CV I cannot comment on their pizza, but I have heard so many great things about the place that a must go. Any recommendations you can offer? I would really like to get the best of what they have. Not sure if you guessed yet, but pizza is one of my favorite things and I always want to enjoy it so they best they offer is what I wanna try.

Addison, TX?

My suggestion for Addison is Mi Piaci, on Montfort rd.. The Italian is delicious and the pasta homemade. Last I was there (January for my SO's b-day) we enjoyed a couple pasta dishes (2 half portions equally one full portion) and osso bucco.

were you disappointed the first time you went? What toppings, if you don't mind me asking, did you have on your pizza? Does CV serve a very thin crust pizza or slightly thicker, I have never been?

But if they do, don't you recommend them? My friend who is a trained pastry chef just left (moved back to Paris) and everything she ever made or brought home was OUTSTANDING. I say check it out and see if they do. Can you say divine?

Grimaldi's - Dallas

Here Here. My husband just sent an original new yorker there last week, and he has now been 4 times.

I get the guy who loves the whole Brooklyn thing, but saying it isn't so good and not REAL NY pizza is a far cry from the truth. If you want real NY pizza Grimald's is the spot. And yes, I did move here from NYC and yes I do love pizza more than almost any food on earth and I could eat a slice a day.
