The Maine Diner in Wells, ME has a lobster roll which is crave-worthy-of-a-long-drive. It is described on their menu as "Fresh lobster meat is heated and served in a grilled roll with a side of drawn butter." Whoa, it's good. They also have another version of the lobster roll on their menu which I assume is cold meat with mayo but I've never tried it ... |

Does anyone know what's happening with Cafe Brazil in Allston? I second that thought. So sad. Been going there since they opened and was with them as they added each room. :-( |

Does anyone know what's happening with Cafe Brazil in Allston? Cafe Brazil has looked closed for the last few weeks I have driven by it. I just figured the owner must be on a long Brazilian vacation. But now I just tried to call them and the numbers are not in service. Say it isn't so!!! I love this place ... |

We've had some lovely lamb legs from this Halal place in Allston: Cheema's Supermarket. 572 Cambridge Street (corner of Gordon Street). |

Herrs Heinz Ketchup Potato Chips $15.99 shipping for 3 bags o chips ... must be the packing required to keep 'em whole. |

Does anyone remember Cottage Donuts? I recall Cottage Donuts fondly, too. There is a place in Wells, ME called Congdon's Donuts which has comparable Chocolate Jimmy donuts. |

I've been there twice since the turmoil. I had never been there before the Belmont Brigham's had closed so I can't say whether they slipped but we thought the grilled cheeses, ice cream soda, and frappe we had were all good. |

Yes, that is the place. Vintage, for sure. Nice people who run that place and know what they are doing! Arlington Heights is also very very vintage decor :-) Shabbier than Quincy but I still appreciate it very much. (3) 37 Main Street, Hingham, MA |

My 86 year old Mom loves a mocha (one scoop of chocolate and one scoop of coffee on top) ice cream soda. I take her to Saturday 4pm Mass and then we get a bite to eat after. We've had good luck at ... wait for it ... Brigham's (yes, still!). Made correctly by experienced Brigham's staff, although not a traditional glass any more. The Brigham's we've gotten them at recently are at (1) 13 Beale Street (Wollaston/Quincy) |

NoMu or FoMu, it's still fantastic!! I live so nearby but was worried to try it for the first month of its existence. Finally did. I had the Salted Caramel and my friend had the Thai Peanut. Both have the hint of coconut but texture is exactly like ice cream. Perfectly sweetened and spiced. About $4 a cone (including small tip) but I was OK to pay it for the high quality. I strong recommend FoMu! |

All this talk of the HoJo clam roll got me thinking.... Summer Shack in Back Bay. |

Help, Need to find a Julia Child throwback! Gaslight is good. I especially like that place because parking is so easy. |

Wasn't there any place good to report on? Sad for you! |

I agree! Great, authentically Roman, dining experience! Can't believe it took this long down in the thread to be mentioned. |

The Corrib Pub in Brighton has it (all day) and the Guinness, too. |

Ogunquit--Perkins Cove Jackies Too Wow! I'd never heard this. Happened in 1990 - I just read an old story on the internet. |
|
|
Restaurant Recommendations for Ogunquit, Maine Joshua's in Wells is my favorite and I've been to them all including the uber-expensive Arrows. Enjoy your trip! |
|
|
Ogunquit--Perkins Cove Jackies Too "totally devoid of any charm it might have had 25 years ago" !!!!! Are we forgetting the spectacular ocean views? Jackie's Too - I'll basically agree with your recommendation (and add that it has definitely stepped up its food and cleanliness game in the last 2 years). ----- |

Where should I head to re-stock my bar? $34.99 is their St. Germain price, too. Cheapest around (at least in the city). And I'll get some more examples in here soon but you see what I mean. |

Where should I head to re-stock my bar? I'll do some research soon and report back - maybe specifics will convince you. I shop all over the place but have found, of late, that this Marty's is doing the best for me. Well, it can't beat the beer bargains at Hurley's but ... he's talking about stocking a bar so I was assuming liquors. |
|
|
Where should I head to re-stock my bar? I would head straight to Marty's on 103 North Beacon Street in Allston (near Stop and Shop). Not the Newton one, the Allston one. Cheapest liquor prices around and very wide selection. More info at http://www.yelp.com/biz/martys-big-bu... |

Interesting development in a divey Allston bar Well you don't know me and my Allston pride if you'd think I'd ever belittle my chosen home -- lived here for decades, love it all and appreciate the beauty that is wonderful food in a non-upscale, low priced alternative. you're kinda missing my point of finding a restaurant week menu in Allston. Anyhow, thanks for your suggestions, all of which I've been to, not all I would agree with you :) I have a fondness for Cafe Brazil and its owner since I've been going there since it opened - still enjoy it. ----- |

Interesting development in a divey Allston bar (oops, replied in wrong spot) ----- |

Interesting development in a divey Allston bar "primary criterion" Don't be silly/insulting. For Allston, I'd call CB upscale. Got any examples of your own? |
|

A novelty = a restaurant week restaurant in Allston! Last day is today. I can't think of other examples of Allston restaurants which participated in Restaurant Week but we now have one: Petit Robert Bistro at 1414 Comm Ave (between Allston and Warren streets). The last day is today. Support it! I had the paté, duck, chocolate cake dinner combo and was very very pleased with it. Dinner companions had specials off the board and were likewise pleased. You can see their restaurant week menu here: http://www.restaurantweekboston.com/r... ----- |

Interesting development in a divey Allston bar For chowish on the "upscale" side, have you tried Petit Robert Bistro at 1414 Comm Ave? (between Allston and Warren). I just ate there for restaurant week and was very pleased! Especially with the fact that I can now walk to an "upscale" restaurant from my house in Allston. I do not like Deep Ellum so not including that as upscale. Hmm, now that I think about it, I'll call Cafe Brazil, which I can also walk to and has cloth tablecloths, upscale for Allston. ----- Cafe Brazil Deep Ellum Bar |

In my opinion, the Kelly's in Allston is not nearly as good as the other Kelly's locations - the fried fish has tasted like old fry oil the 2 times I've tried it. |
|
|
"The Ship" (Mount Vernon) up on Rt 1 in Lynnfield has all around excellent fried seafood, including clams, at a good price - plus it comes with a popover (i.e. why not go all the way?) |

Gluten free dining in Southern NH If you have a hankering for fried fish and can't find an option up there, come down to Woodman's on Cape Ann in Essex, MA. See this thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/802497 |
