Any place to buy Green Tea Ice Cream To Take Home?
ditto for porter exhange: http://www.kotobukiyamarket.com/homee.htm
away from the city, north i'd have to search on the asian markets...some creameries have it tho---cristina's yes--also Cabot's in Newtonville has ginger ice-cream..they may have added green tea by now--?
Kewpie Mayonnaise- any fans? suggestions for use?
kewpie mayo looked delicious to me when i first started seeing it in the japanese/other markets. i remember buying it and being psyched to try it out. i am a big fan of cains mayo, not only because it is local, but it has something like 3 or 4 basic ingredients (eggs, vinegar, oil, etc.) i don't recall it having much else-- but kewpie has msg if i remember correctly. something about the ingredient list i remember being thrown off by, and i've never bought it again. as far as taste, that ruined it for me, but i also remember it not being "smoothe" enough--the taste-- it had some kind of fake sweetener taste, or something that wasn't quite right. i have only had this negative experience, and as i said, because i'm more of a purist, i suppose that's why i recommend cains.
Thin Crust Pizza - NY Style on the N Shore
no, but i will inevitably find myself there again & will be sure to try that. we also put olive oil on our pizza at home.
great lunch on a Saturday

great lunch on a Saturday
i should re-fresh, perhaps. i saw the expansion as a good sign-- but haven't been there in a long time --longer than your 6 mos. maybe that was a bad rec. was trying to give her a varied list.
Thin Crust Pizza - NY Style on the N Shore
The Upper Crust is very, very good and friendly people, all around good choice. NY is NY, i judge pie differently depending on what the deal is; sometimes it's about sauce and cheese (if it's a little around the corner type place) other times when it's like upper crust or even santarpio's it's more about the heritage of pizza-- and the ingredients, and the crust-- and sauce yes, but not about the comparison to a ny slice. oranges and apples.

Good for you!!! I love it. Santarpio's is awesome. Guess what you shouldn't do? Compare NY anything to anything else. Another thing about Santarpio's and people who order pizza. I'll tell you the best pie they have and it's garlic & anchovy. Get a glass of wine, and get the lamb and peppers and eat. Papa Gino's? Are you people for real?
Breakfast in Harvard Square
this is really lame. i can't believe there is still no American diner in that square! weird. i also like Darwin's Ltd. for quickies -- coffee, scones, etc. but they could in fact get brunch at a few options...:

I think Harvest might only do a Sunday brunch??
They could also do some kind of bread and soup deal at Cafe Of India:

Brunch in Lexington area
wow. i would say the exact same two bits of advice as raddoc. great choices!
Boston must try Restaurants under $20
wow-- this list has become nutty! so many places...I will pick up on the trail... as you said you've only really ventured to Pizzaria Regina in the North End-- (which is not my personal favorite, but is for many others--for pizza)-- I would strongly suggest as someone else did here, that you try Galleria Umberto. It is only open for lunch, and has some crazy 12-2 hours I believe-- but they have arincini, pizza, calzone, etc. all cheap-- ! If you haven't done it, and are looking for something new, give it a shot. Also, lower on Hanover are a few places before you get to the 7-11, on the left side of the street toward the water-- some great spots for lunch, take a walk and peruse the menu's. If you've been here that long, you've gotta check out the North End & get some favorites there!!! ; )
Snails?
this is overdue..but for perhaps anyone else looking for ideas with snail: my italian family also made them right in the shell (you can buy shells, to present them in, and put snails right from can-rinsed- into shell) make a paste with lots & lots of butter, some olive oil, & finely chopped parsley. Bake. Add white wine to pan scraps, after removing shells w/ snails, and pour the sauce in bowls w/ shells. Serve with crusty bread to soak it all up.
also, recently, i had a paella with snails, rabbit, chorizo, chicken leg, and some other stuff. you could experiment with that, or try to find recipes...
the other thing to remember with snails, is they feed on finnochio-- or fennel. so, it is nice to cook them with that anisette flavouring, to bring out what is naturally in their composition. you can use wild fennel and garlic, try looking up recipes for snails + fennel, or you can place the snail sauteed in fennel onto a round of polenta & bake. good luck!
Chang An in Concord, MA
that's hilarious. elvis is definitely still there! he's great-- and the drinks are killer here. it's not the best, but for suburban choices in that area...very slim...i wouldn't say their food is 'greasy' but you need to know how to order when you're not in chinatown... there are certain menu selections that'll keep you satisfied. ie: go for the green beans (with fish sauce), the boneless spareribs or beef teriyaki for simple reasonably unadultered meats..., the soups & shrimp dishes are good options too... the most 'fresh' (steamed, or with less sauces) that you can keep it, the more satisfied and closer to authentic chinese cuisine you will be. that being said, if you like the breading and the american tendency for heavy hand on salted sauces... then ordering that way (pu-pu platters, fried wings, etc.) should make you happy as well!
