Was the restaurant Gambonis Peninsula Grill at Lake Almanor? We had dinner there recently and it really was a great meal, like you mention in your chat.

If you go to Chester or Lake Almanor, you must eat at Gambonis Penisula Grill. It seems to me that it has been passed over in a few forums as too expensive and I have to tell you that it was one of the finest dinners we have ever eaten. The pricing is cheap when you see the culinary expierience you get at the grill. We were blown away that such a great chef and such great ingreidients can be found in such a remote location. It is truly a restaurant not to be missed, when in the area. The Bidwell House was an excellent B&B as well, with a great breakfast. Again, so surprising to find this kind of quality so far from civilazation.
Lassen Road Trip Report
Too bad you did not go to the Penisula Grill. We too were staying at the Bidwell House and were deciding where to dine. We chose Gambonis Penisula Grill and had the best dinner we can , now say , ever! The atmosphere was warm, the staff and owners were interactive and very friendly, the squash soup was the freshest and perfectly balanced and my Salmon, which had just the lightest crispy encrustment I have ever had was out of this world. There is no way it is twice as expensive as the Timber house, and everything was prepared like a top notch fine dining cusine at regular steak house pricing. It is a diamond in the rough and we can't wait for a reason to go back.
Dinner in Chester, CA (near Lake Almanor)?
My husband and I were staying in Chester for the night at the Bidwell House and it was suggested we go ten minutes away to Gambonis Peninsula Grill at Lake Almanor. Boy are we glad we did. The prices were not expensive at all compared to the quality food we received. I had the best Salmon I have ever eaten. The very light encrustment gave it just the right amount of crunch and the preparation was perfect. I could not believe I found this kind of a quality reataurant in the middle of nowhere. You must go there.

I was just up in Chester staying at the Bidwell Inn which was fantastic, we wanted to go out for a nice dinner, it was recommended we head to the Peninsula Grill about 10 minutes away at Lake Almanor. What a treat that turned out to be, It is actually called Gambonis Peninsula Grill and it is located in the smallest community in the mountains in the middle of nowhere and I found a restaurant that I can now consider to be the best restaurant I have eaten at. The prices are not expensive at all when considering the quality of the cusine. I highly recommend you try this place out.
