Give Fortune Chinese Cuisine a try. It's located at Raymond and Union in Old Town Pasadena (626) 577-1888. We had about a dozen dishes delivered to our office earlier this year (for our Chinese New Year celebration). The delivery guy was the nicest ever and exactly on time. Everything was quite delicious, from the beef with broccoli to the shrimp with black bean sauce. Fortune makes its own soy sauce and they do not use MSG. Plus you can request white or brown rice. Prices are very reasonable. Happy eating! And please report back! ----- |

What is the best Indian restaurant in LA? Enjoyed a wonderful feast at Akbar in Pasadena tonight. Everything was delish! Ordered the onion fritters to start (8 per order). Served with a trio of spicy condiments, they were savory and crunchy. Mains included tandoori chicken (really tasty, and sizzling onions were oh so good), bharta, dal (a little plain), basmati rice, garlic naan (the order consisted of only one large piece!), and coco lamb. We ordered the lamb based on recs from bloggers, and it did not disappoint. Wonderful flavors, though I wish it had been spicier. All in all, it was a very good dinner. Service was timely and responsive. Best of all, we cashed in a Groupon certificate and it saved us a bundle. Dinner for 3 (without alcohol) cost $75 (before the coupon). I definitely recommend dinner at Akbar! |

Good farmers market with organics in/around Pasadena?? I love the South Pasadena FM, but it was quite the zoo last Thursday because of Toyota's Farm to Table Tour. South Pasadena holds its FM on Thursdays, late afternoon through the evening (8-ish) at El Centro and Meridian. Temple City just launched its own FM on Sunday mornings from 8:30 am till noon. It's still tiny since it just started. All the produce vendors are certified. |

Mezbaan in Pasadena and Radhika's in South Pasadena both have new cocktail lounges. |

Have you looked into Almansor Court in Alhambra? Definitely not high end, but an AYCE spread that offers something for everyone. We usually go there for Easter brunch, stuff ourselves on salmon, king crab legs, and champagne, then the kids have fun putting on the green. ----- |

Shrimp and Grits for breakfast? Mmmm... Just had homemade cheesy grits with fried eggs and sriracha. If you're interested in trying DIY, I use Bob's Red Mill polenta corn grits, available for purchase at Sprout's Market and maybe Figueroa Produce in Highland Park. One part grits to five parts water. Parmesean cheese is an easy flavor booster. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Elements serve shrimp and grits? I believe that First and Hope no longer offers that dish, though it was on the Dine LA prix fixe menu. But Firefly definitely serves shrimp and grits for brunch. |

Which Corned Beef Should I Buy? Got mine at Costco. $3.99/lb. Flavorful and not too salty. Prepared low and slow in a crockpot (12 hours!). It was especially delicious with the beer-spiked broth, red potatoes, and cabbage. |

Golden Deli Express is open in Temple City (SGV) Thank you for the breaking news, Ray! Your post inspired me to walk over tonight to check out this exciting culinary addition to TC. The ambiance is as you described, and is notably well-lit and clean. Staff is young, very friendly, and generous with the herb/sprout condiments. While I enjoyed the beef pho and spring rolls, I can't wait to try the cherimoya smoothie! |

The "Donut Egg Salad Sandwich" ... the doppelgänger to the Donut Burger Pancakes, syrup, eggs, reinvented... sort of. But the bacon is conspicuously absent! |

Hi Neta! For the past couple of years, we've been getting a prepared turkey dinner from Fu Shing in Pasadena. While it's not "the best," it always gets devoured. The dinner comes with sticky rice, vegetables, and lots of gravy. Pour one container of gravy over the bird and reheat for 30 minutes. Enjoy! ----- |

Try Merengue in Monrovia. Last year, they had a triple layer cake depicting a haunted street scene. Also, Bristol Farms will likely have some cute Halloween cupcakes. |

Eating the food of a different country every day and I need your help OK, so you're not doing mail order or packaged products. But Holland American Int'l, a Dutch food distributor in Bellflower CA, may be able to give you some leads on finding an acceptable Dutch dinner. http://www.1dutchmall.com/ I also like Mr. Taster's idea of using your charm on the Dutch proprietors of Winchester Cheese. |

Thanks Giving Dinner - Recommendations If you're into the idea of eating and feeding at the same time, consider the Daily Grill. A 3-course Thanksgiving dinner (served thru the month of November) is being offered for $21.95 with a portion of the proceeds going to the Union Rescue Mission. I believe there's one in Santa Monica. |
