We tried the ravioli en brodo and really liked it. Chunks of beef in the broth, large ravioli. not a bad product...
Kosher in DC (not Shomer)
Can anyone recommend restaurants in the DC area that are open on Friday night/Saturday?
Kosher in DC area (not Shomer)
Can anyone recommend some Kosher restaurants in the DC area that are open on Shabbat?
Yays and nays from Trader Joe's, lately [OLD]
The soups in the boxes (tomato, tomato/red pepper, sweet potato) are all really good. Much better than the canned soups.
Las Vegas treats
I'm headed to Vegas in July and I'm looking for recommendations for treats - not meals - can't miss places for candy, ice cream, baked gooods, etc.
Private Chef on Block Island?!
Call Johnson and Wales and see if they have a newsletter for their culinary students and graduates.
Liebman's Deli - Bronx, NY - a Chowhound Recco pans out
Try the new M&M bakery on Johnson for authentic Israeli-style pita and bureks.
Riverdale Restaurants
Yes, I did.
The food is fine (we had pastas, not pizza), but it's not a warm comfortable experience. The room is cavernous, loud and not warm and inviting. There is constant take-out traffic that adds to the frenetic feeling.
I heard the pizza is different - thinner crust.

Cheap Eats - Upper UWS
Need to meet a colleague for an early lunch (11:00) on Thursday. He lives in HK, I'm in the Riverdale. Any suggestion for a decent, inexpensive meal above 110th?
Dinning in Providence
I have been to all four of these restaurants in the past month.
New Rivers, which has always been one of my favorites, was disappointing this time around. The restaurant was extremely loud and the food just not up to their normal standard - maybe a bad night in the kitchen?
Chez Pascal was great but, as mentioned elsewhere, the service was slow and we had to flag down the waiter a few times. The food however, was excellent.
Local 121 missed the mark on some of the food and the service was less than attentive.
Gracie's excelled in every area - food and service.
Knowing that any place can have a bad night, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these places.
halfway between Hyannis and Providence?
Thanks for the research, but I don't think this is the place. However, my sister seems to remember that we were in Fairhaven.
It's possible it was a place called Gene's???
halfway between Hyannis and Providence?
Looking for a decent place to meet for dinner that is halfway between Hyannis and Providence. I ate at a clam shack type place a few years ago in the New Bedford/Fall River area that was recommended by the Providence Journal but I can't remember the name. I do remember it had a decent lobster roll.
Any suggestions?
Former RI'er back for work
I'm starting a consulting job that will have me in town for the next few months. I haven't really lived here since the early 80's but still have lots of family and friends. I'm familiar with some of the new places to eat but am looking for additional ideas. This week, I'm eating at Local 121, Gracie's, Pane e Vino and Waterman Grille. I'm familiar with Chez Pascal. We ate at Rick's Roadhouse a few weeks ago.
Any suggestions/recommendations appreciated.
Best Gelato
I just received an email from Capogiro that they have opened a gelato stand in Rockefeller Center for the summer. It's open daily from 12 to 8 and it's on the landing neat the Prometheus statue.
Yays and nays from Trader Joe's, lately [OLD]
My newest Trader Joe's obsession:
Dark Chocolate Mint Creams.
I also like:
Cabernet Beef Pot Roast
Breaded Cod Filets
Assorted Fruit Bars (leather) - except for Gooseberry
Wheat Crisps
Everything Bagel Chips
Parmesan Garlic Pita Chips
Almost any fried fruit (although the section has been shrinking steadily over the last few years)
Australian Red Licorice
Mini peanut butter cups

The babka at Mother's is, indeed, something special. We regularly bring this as a gift when going to people's homes. My husband has carried their chocolate babka to CA, AZ and London!
Always a treat!
Murray's cheese
I have taken 2 classes - goat cheese and mountain cheese. One class was delivered by Liz Thorpe and the other by Chris Munsey.
Class size is limited to around 12 and are typically full.
Murray's cheese
I have attended 3 classes at Murray's. The teachers are very knowledgeable and well informed. There are typically 4-5 cheeses to taste along with french bread, dried fruit and nuts. Wines are served to match each cheese. The conversation has always been lively and enjoyable. Once the class is over, it's just about closing time and you may stay and shop for as long as you like.
I think this is a nice gift.
Top Chef -- would you eat in their restaurants?
I have already eaten in Richard's resaturant in Atlanta. The food was great - fresh ingredients, interesting combos and plays on food (fried green tomatoes and ranch ice cream), and tasty.
Check out the menu on-line: http://www.heretoserverestaurants.com/menus/home_dinner_menu.pdf
I was there the last week of April and can't wait to go back.
Westchester Ice Cream Spots???
This place has closed but Main St Sweets has moved into its locations.
water moon - uws
Ate here Saturday night. Cooked food was terrible - scallops were overcooked, soba noodles were more vegetables than noodles and doused in sauce. Sushi was good, but not great. Crunchy rolls weren't crunchy. Wouldn't go back or recommend.
Riverdale Restaurants
So, I was wrong about Greentree. Decided to give it a try and see what the story was. The original owner sold to his son-in-law. He shut down for 6 months and renovated. It looks really great. The menu has been updated with some more modern dishes along with some of the traditional standards. The service was attentive and friendly. We had Chicken Pot Pie and Wild Mushroom Risotto. Both were quite nice. If the food and service remain consistent, I may have a new favorite restaurant in Riverdale!
