I tend to agree with you, Melly. But I do really enjoy Rick Kushman's pieces.
I like the SF Chronicle, also.

Flying Pig BBQ - Natomas

I like the pulled pork and hamburgers. Great Carolina mustard sauce, although they do not bottle it yet. I found the garlic bread overpowering, but overall...a nice place for take-out.

Also, very close to Arco Arena: Sizzler, Mel's Diner, Rincon Alteno, Bella Bru...and yes Tuk-Tuk!!!!!!!
-jennyfur

Natomas Area of Sact'o

Or, you could always head to one of our fine Saturday farmers markets, chat with the vendors, and then take your organic produce back to your hotel rooms.

Gnocchi: Wisps of potato-y air. I LIKE that! Great review.

san diego...OCEANSIDE!

Went to Rockin' Baja Lobster. Great mahi mahi fish-n-chips! New item on the menu, and only $10.95! The special dealio is buckets. We got a bucket with slipper lobster, shrimp, snow crab and king crab. Simply roasted in spices and butter. Had rice and beans and tortillas with it...did not really get to those...and Ceasar salad bar...nice touch. Music on the patio was WAY too loud, but we had enough food to take home for shrimp and grits the next AM.

san diego...OCEANSIDE!

Staying in a place with a kitchen, so I want to go out to eat AND cook local stuff. First: Where to eat good things?. Second: Where to purchase fresh, local ingredients? I really want to cook, but would also like to take in the local culture. I have looked on past threads, but most are old. Thank you!

Sacramento - Mac & Cheese

Was the seasoning nutmeg...'cause, I love that!

Update wanted for CSUS area!

Oh..bennyboy1 is so RIGHT ON on with Giovannis! Try the Coney Island ... extra-clam-age!

If you hit Pavillions, just down from Loehmann's Plaza, go to David Berkley's on the weekend and get "Lisa's pate" and breadsticks. Wonderful.

Sacramento - Mac & Cheese

Bella Bru has a mac-n-cheese "gratine" on their winter menu in Natomas. I have had it twice...so rich and creamy!
-jennyfur

Sacramento Downtown - walking at night

Ditto to everything melly just said...those are pretty much all of the places in that area. Love The Broiler. They serve a type of "bubble and squeak" (cabbage and potatoes) with almost everything...so good... Ma Jong's food is very average.

sacramento ca. italian restaurants

Giovanni's Old World NY Pizzeria. A local, small chain...4 locations. Great NY-style pizza. They make wonderful lasagna, both meat and vegetable. The Sicilian roasted chicken is fantastic! Plus, you can get spumoni for dessert. Wines by the bottle or glass and their own ale or stout, too.

Sacramento: taco truck, corn cart!

Hey! 'Got the corn! I stopped to get lengua tacos...the corn guy was there, so I bought 3. Oh...MY!!!! Yummy! Thanks so much for the tip!!!!

Yes, they warmed up just fine at home. So good.

Sausages in Sacramento?

That German deli on Auburn is under new management...no beer or wine anymore...they are waiting for a license...and much LESS product, in both the deli case and the store, in general. I was there today. Pretty disappointing. The tall, blonde German woman is no longer there, either. She was such a hoot to talk with.
