Cheap Birthday Dinner

Casa Bianca was what I was thinking too. I've never been here is the pasta as good as the pizza?

Cheap Birthday Dinner

Hey, I need a lot of help.
My friend invited our other friend out for dinner for her birthday and I was gonig to make a reservation at Palate in Glendale. The birthday girl wanted to go to Grandville in Burbank but I hate that place and the prices are not much more at Palate. Then the person who's idea the dinner was just told me he can't spend more than $45 total. That's for him, his wife, and a portion of the birthday girls dinner. I'm at a loss as to find a place in that price range that is good around the Burbank/Glendale/NOHO/Eagle Rock area. I don't care what kind of food it is at this point.

Authentic Spainish Food

My buddy is heading to Spain on Sunday for a week and I was wondering if there are any local places that have food he would find there. He's going to Barcelona and the area's around there.

Wiltern - Any new recs?

I'm taking the train on Thursday and I was planning on hitting BOHO for the half price beer and pizza and then getting back on the train at Vine. Now I'm seriously considering Hite.

Burbank restaurants near Colony Theatre

Do not try Barney's unless you want a liquid lunch. There food is horrible. You'd be better off a IN-N-Out. I'd have to say Chadaka Thai would be your best bet if your walking.

Lots of Animal - Little Vegetable & No Mineral

Went last night for a friends birthday and was really looking forward to it. There were 3 of us and we ordered the crispy hominy, kimchi pork belly, grilled baby broccoli. and the melted petite basque for apps. I found the kimchi and broccoli a little bland, more vinegar than actual flavor. The petite basque and hominy were pretty addictive. For our entrees we had the flat iron steak with king crab, quail, and a half a rack of the ribs. They all tasted good but I was expecting something a little more memorable. It was good when I was eating it, but I don't think I would go back for anything more than the apps and the desert. The Tres Leche cake was the best I've ever had and has probably ruined me for all others. We spent $170 + $30 for a tip, and only had 3 beers and a Coke. With those kind of prices I guess I wanted something I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about.

Thanks for the info. You were right it was the place in Illinois. I might check it out Sunday, but I'm going to Animal too so maybe next week.

I looked at the online menu and it doesn't seem to have a lot of the items you guys are mentioning.

LA Weekly Gold Standard?

The tickets are $60, is that all you can eat and drink. The website doesn't have a lot of specfics. Plus are they limiting the tickets because otherwise it could be too crowded.

BBQ @ Handy's Market

The tri tip is dry, the chicken under seasoned and to salty and the ribs I've seen are pretty fatty and not in a good way. Do yourself a favor and keep going on Magnolia towards North Hollywood and got to KC BBQ or treat yourself to Boneyard.

Another Burbank Disappointment

Went to Lucas Trattoria on Pass for dinner last night and was really disappointed. I had the corn and spinach risotto and my mom had the spicy penne with sausage. The risotto was heavy with cream and cheese but totally lacking in flavor. I'm sure it was frozen corn they were using. My mom's penne had exactly three pieces of sausage and was not spicy. The tomato sauce tasted raw and bland. The bread we got was also pretty gummy. We won't be going back, might as well go to Monto Carlo's instead and that is pretty sad Italian food. Now that I know it's owned by the Bistro Provence guys I'm even more disappointed.

Where to eat off the Red Line?

I went to Mama's Hot Tamelles and they were the best I've ever had. I stopped at Langers on the way out and got a half a pound of pastrami and a loaf of rye to take home for dinner. Thanks for all the help.

Where to eat off the Red Line?

I have today off so I was thinking of taking the Metro Red Line downtown for lunch. I was looking at Phillipe's Famous French Dip cause they are only a block or two from Union Station. Anyone else have a better idea that is in reasonable walking distance from the Red Line between NoHo and LA?

There ARE good restaurants in Burbank!

I grew up in Burbank, escaped for 10 years and now I'm back and had to add to this list. I live around the corner from Willie's and I like the fish and chips at Buchanan Arms on Burbank better. It's an English pub that has a great selection of British beers on tap. It's right across the street from Chili Johns. I also love Tony's Deli on Magnolia and Shelton, I think their sandwhiches are the best in Burbank. The Riverside Cafe is decent, good fries. That's about the only places that havent' been mentioned that I'd go to.
There were some good places back in the "day" two of which burned down under mysterious circumstances, Don's and Barrons. I remember when Van De Kamps turned into the Grist Mill.

Cheap and tasty in Hollywood

Well it looks like we have it narrowed down to Cha Cha Cha or Taste, but I have also heard of Happisongs or Lou's on Vine. Happisongs seems like you love it or hate it and Lou's on Vine seems to have a limited menu from what I saw on their website. Can anyone help me make a choice?
Thanks

Cha Cha Cha and the Village idiot look good, and maybe BLD but it looks a little pricey. Thanks for the help so far because I haven't found any of those places.

Cheap and tasty in Hollywood

My friends have tickets to the Improv on Melrose Saturday and we are looking for a dinner place that's about 30 bucks a person with drinks and tip. We usually go to Bossa Nova but I'm looking for something different and hopefully close to the Improv. We like anything, but my one friend will only eat chicken and fish. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
