Culina Millcreek or Culina Highlands? - Edmonton
hello, i am getting my parents a gift certificate to one of these two Culinas. is one better than the other? parents live in west end (callingwood) they can drive to any one of them though. just wondering if one stands out more than another. would $175 be good to cover apps, dinner, wine, dessert and tip, or more?
thanks!
Quebec City - Help me finish my weekend of eating
Hello,
I will be spending a weekend in QC in December. I have searched the boards here quite a bit but would like one more piece of advice.
Here is the plan thus far:
Friday night - L'Echaude
Saturday Night - Toast
Sunday Brunch - Le Clocher Penche
I wanted to go to Pien Beni or L'Utopia Sunday night but both places appear to be closed. Any good recs for a Sunday night out? We are staying at Hôtel Manoir d'Auteuil in Old Quebec City.
We both love seafood, if there is a place that specializes in local seafood from the area, that would be great. Other than that, we are not picky. Love the bistros, italian....pretty much all cuisines. I guess nothing too fancy as we will probably be spending lot's more the previous days. Just want a nice casual meal to end with.
Thanks a lot
Seeking trendy place with delicious food for a group in Edmonton.
dan g, it's like your reading my mind about the state of restaurants in edmonton. every other city in canada except winnipeg kills it for dining out. i live in toronto now and lifestyle is part of the reason. i don't blame ya for feeling frustrated. i know lot's of people in edmonton who love their joeys, kegs, and earls. i just ask mom for some good old fashioned home cooking when i come back for holidays.
Innis and Gunn on draught
Hello - Is there anywhere in Toronto that has Innis and Gunn beer on draught?????
Cheers
LAI WAH HEEN FOR DINNER?
i have pretty much hit every place on spadina. nothing has "wowed" me though. some meals have been hit and miss. i have never actually tried a "fancier" type restaurant for chinese. would you say it is almost better to have dim sum there than a dinner? it's for a birthday meal, so i guess the extra $ can be justified.
LAI WAH HEEN FOR DINNER?
hello,
has anyone ever done the prix fix menu at lai wah heen for dinner? i have read a lot of good things about the dim sum, but i am looking for a great chinese dinner. i live downtown and do not want to travel to richmond hill or anywhere in burbs. is this a worthwhile dinner destination for great chinese food?
thanks
Wine bar/lounge in Edmonton?
hi hounds
will be back in edmonton in a week and am going to meet up with a couple of buddies. they are wine fans now and i guess wanna go catch up somewhere where you can have a good selections of wine by glass or bottle. not looking for dinner destination, just a nice lounge/bar where the tunes are good, the atmosphere is lively and the wine is flowin. i researched to see if there are any new places like that and i only found reviews of 4th and vine, and they were not the greatest. any recs? would prefer if location was jasper ave or whyte ave.
thanks
Sunday Brunch in T.O w/ reservations?
Hello
Does anyone know where in the downtown area or in the west end of the city that takes reservations for Sunday brunch? I have friends visiting in the morning, but they have to leave by noon to get to the airport, thus waiting in line-ups would probably not be the best. Unfortunately most places do not take reservations. i know Jamie Kennedy does, but just wondering what else might be out there.
cheers
1 night in Paris by Warwick hotel
They are dining on a Saturday night. There are a lot of places closed that night???
1 night in Paris by Warwick hotel
Hello,
My parents are staying 1 night at the Warwick hotel in Paris. They are looking for a nice restaurant that is somewhat close to their hotel for dinner that night. I have not been to Paris yest so I am clueless for help. Any rec's??? I assume they want something that screams Pairs, so a ncie bistro is probably an idea. For price range, i am guessing 300 euros max. Hopefully there are some suggestions. Thanks a lot!
jamaican pizza on the drive?
Hello,
Is the Jamiacan Pizz place on commercial drive still open?
Gordon Ramsays restaurants in London - need help!
Hello,
Really quick question about the Gordon Ramsay restaurants in London. I want to get my parents a gift certificate for a nice supper while they are visiting London this spring. I went to Ramsays website and there are 10-11 different restaurants. Is there one that is stand out over the others? I know location will be a factor, but they have not booked their hotel yet. Any rec's would be really appreciated. As well, for a nice dinner out (apps, main, dessert) with a bottle of wine, what would one be looking at spending for a gift card?
Many Thanks
Winterlicious - Majority terrible, why people still bother going?!!
To be honest Charles, probably because it is a deal to most people. I have seen your posts on where you eat and how often you eat. You obviously have a pretty good thing going money wise and restaurant wise. You can eat when you want and where you want at very nice restautants. Consider yourself lucky
Montreal Mission 2009
i want to go to petit alep, but they do not take reservations so we opted for alep. i heard both are good, same kitchen, just different experience, but i am looking forward to trying the set menu there. looking forward to alep very much!
Montreal Mission 2009
Going to Montreal in a few weeks.
After a little research and reviews, here is the eating itinerary:
*Lemeac
*Alep
*Pop!
*Europea for lunch
and a few stop off's at Schwartz's and La Banquinesse (sp)?
Will send reviews when the digestion is complete
If anyone has any recommendations from the menu at any of these places, please feel free to suggest.
Cheers
Long reviews of my Montreal trip part 2(Europea)

Love is in the air
i agree. i am visiting that same weekend and am trying to find a place that is NOT doing a v-day big deal. lebanese, here i come!
Long reviews of my Montreal trip part 2(Europea)

The Keg - Yonge and Eg
good old mom and dad, they sent me some keg gift certificates for xmas. i don't go that often in t.o, but was wondering which location is best? i live closest to the somewhat new yonge and eglinton location. mansion is ok..i have been before a few years back but the wait can be trying. i went to the york street one for drinks once. i did not mind it but was wondering if anyone has feedback on the yonge-eg one.
thanks
John Lee's Omi - The paper is off the windows
I ended up going to Omi this past Wed night. I liked it. The sushi was very fresh. I had the sushi platter, gf had the sashimi platter. $20 each. We split the soft shell crab roll to start. Service was good from John. No rush, no long waits. Everything was good. Next time I will try the omakase.
is there such a thing as a cheap drink in clubland on a friday?
i would try and leave that awful testosterone driven sleaze-zone asap after your meal and head to the horseshoe for some frosty beer and some rock n roll! holla!
Chinatown delivery on Dec 25th?
hello,
does anyone know of any downtown chinese restaurants that deliver on xmas night? i would imagine a lot do, just looking for some solid grub..i usually order from spadina garden, but just in case they are closed i am checking for other suggestions. delivery would be to avenue-st.clair area
thanks
TAKE SUSHI OR JAPANGO?
Thanks Googs....I thought I read that Omi does not take dinner reservations, do you know if they do? If not, how long of a wait would you expect on a weeknight?
TAKE SUSHI OR JAPANGO?
Meeting a friend for sushi in downtown core this week. Looking for something better than your sushi inn or sushi on bloor joints. Never have been to Take or Japango...read the reivews of both. Seems Take is good - nothing mind blowing, but good, and that Japango's once shining rep has faded over the past little while. Which one is the current better choice? Any other suggestions within downtown core (bloor to the north, sherbourne to the east, bathurst to west)?
Not doing omakase, just good old sushi...and no cooked dishes.
Cheers
Anti-Valentines meal in MTL 2009?
thanks guys, i'll check out those sugggestions. on a side note, for one big splurge meal, where would you go - europea, la coqchine (sp?), laloux, cafe ferreira?
cheers!
Anti-Valentines meal in MTL 2009?
After thinking about it, I was wondering a more specific question for my Montreal trip. My gf and I are not fans of Valentines/Hallmark day. What are some places in Montreal that won't be changing their menus? I understand it's a very busy night and the fact it is on a Saturday this year will not help. I just view v-day the same as New Years - culinary wise, it's best to stay home and cook with a good bottle of wine, but I can not this year. Anything from bistro to ethnic suits us. Can be fancy or divey- as long as the food is great and they don't do anything v-day wise, we will be happy. Gf is lebanese background, are there some good sit down places in MTL? I have read about some pick up places for shwarma, but heard MTL has lot's of great lebansese/middle east restaurants. Staying at Omni but we will cab to places as well.
Thanks
Montreal - so many places, so little time
Your right about V-Day. I will be here with my girlfriend, but we don't dig the hallmark-cheese vibe of valentines day and the marked up menus that come along with them. Are there some nice bistros that avoid doing anything valentines day? We are staying at the Omni Mont Royal if that helps location wise.
