Beach Grass Cafe in Encinitas and Poway

Sand dabs

I don't know about markets but they are usually on the menu at King's Fish House and generally very good.

Best Steak in SD

Having been here a couple dozen times without even a slight misstep, I would call that highly unusual. Also, even if you did not want to send it back, you really ought to tell the restaurant when you are that unsatisfied. Give them a chance to do something.

Athens chow

We'll be here a couple days before a cruise. We are interested in anything from casual to elegant. Staying near Plaka. Thanks.

seeking loud loud restaurant

Burlap in Del Mar. There is a danger you might be able to hear each other during the week so try Friday to be safe.

Old School - Saskas

The teriyaki top sirloin and baked spud was a damn fine meal at $4.99 when I lived on Redondo Court in 1975. I see its $20 now. Whew!

Must try restaurants near Carlbad

While they do not get much love here, we have had consistently good chow at Vigiluci's Steak and Seafood in Carlsbad. You can get some simple pastas or expensive steaks. They have a patio which MAY allow for your dog. It is across the street from the beach. Quite nice.

Where can one get grass-fed beef?

Quite a decent selection at Baron's in Rancho Bernardo.

Local Hero, Tender Greens

Agree. Consistently excellent. We happened upon the Hollywood outpost a couple months back and lunch was just as good as Liberty Station.

Moving to North County, need restaurant recommendations

The owners of Luc's were the same as Cavaillon but they moved to Houston, although they still own it. The manager since they opened left in September. They still put out good chow but are more hit and miss, sadly.

Fresh Poke to go?

Bristol Farms makes it daily.......it's decent.

Early morning breakfast in Ramona?

DDD visited the Ramona Cafe, not the Kountry Kitchen. And no, the Cheers vote was not paid for but the result of a Del Mar Fairgrounds contest organized by a local radio station. The competition consisted of several sacred cows including Rocky's and Hodad's. Oh, yee of little faith. Hounds will drive to TJ for a taco but won't drive 20 minutes off the I-15 for cheeseburger.

Early morning breakfast in Ramona?

We live in Ramona and enjoy the Beach Grass Cafe in Poway. Strongly agree with BC's recommendation of Cheer's. (To be fair, we have not been to DiCarlo's since they started breakfast service. They have serviceable steaks and burgers but would typically not be considered "houndish.")

Perhaps you were preceded by your reputation.

Poutine in San Diego

I have been told it is a regular special at Zel's in Del Mar and was reported to be very good.

Best veal chop in San Diego?

My house....bone in rib chop, pounded, coated with oil and dipped in a mixture of fresh bread crumbs and grated parmesean, then carefully grilled.

Starlite is spot on

We had our 3rd visit to Starlite early Saturday and must report that these folks are doing a great job on every level. From the excellent and inventive cocktails to the farm-to-table cuisine to the VERY attentive service, Starlite has become a port of consistency in a sea of inconsistent restaurants. The menu changes often so the most excellent octopus app was not available Saturday but the special broccoli salad was delicious too. We have tried the burger, the Jidori chicken, fish special and most recently the flat iron. The side are inventive and perfectly executed and (keeping with the trend) all entrees are $20 or less. You can have the burger on their relatively new brunch menu with an egg on top.

We will be back even though we live 45 minutes away. Keep it up!

Nice dinner in Rancho Bernardo

We gave up on this place long ago. Those service issues were common for us and the food got to be exceedingly dull. No more.

Where to buy seafood?

For ease of access and quality the choices are Blue Water on India St. and Bay Park Seafood just off Morena Blvd.

chicken fried steak in san diego?

Country Fried steak still on the dinner menu at Luc's, as of right now.

chicken fried steak in san diego?

If I bring my own it counts for zero calories. If I order it there it counts.

Coronado Breakfast

So I ended up on base at North Island with a tomato, bacon and avocado omlette for $5.50 at the Sea & Air G.C. clubhouse. Quite good. The spouse's breakfast burrito had a good report too.

chicken fried steak in san diego?

Thanks. Now I can have CFS that is good and cheap. I find that if I have them hold the mashed spuds and put salad on there instead that it is actually negative net calories AND fat grams. Really!

Coronado Breakfast

How about something at the Del? Overpriced I would expect, but chow-worthy maybe?

Coronado Breakfast

Looking for something good mid-week in Coronado. Any idears?

chicken fried steak in san diego?

I'm no expert, but there is a pretty good one at Luc's in Poway. Enjoyed it on Wednesday. Comes with bleu cheese mashed taters.

Davanti Enoteca, Little Italy

I walked by yesterday, poked my head in and took a menu. Looks nice enough. It was empty. Hostess reported things were going "very well." I would have had lunch and reported but was afraid I might get stoned.

San Diego CLOSED Restaurants - Replacement for old board.

Bingo. I loved that place when was cooking.

San Diego CLOSED Restaurants - Replacement for old board.

That was run by the guy that started Pacifica downtown. Neil something.
