PARADISO/PASTICCIO, PIKESVILLE

Where to begin? They used the old Pasticcio menu and then had practically nothing on it. Foremost was the fact that the server spoke NO English. I mean NOTHING. Nada, zilch, bupkis. But what really frosted my nipples was that the manager refused to come out of the kitchen to talk to us. I literally went back into the kitchen where he was hiding and he ran away from me! I figured nothing was worth this big a brouhaha so all 10 of us walked out and haven't been back since. As far as it being dusty, no big deal to me. I don't care how fancy a place a restaurant is the kitchen is usually questionable.

PARADISO/PASTICCIO, PIKESVILLE

Does anyone know the status of this Italian restaurant in Pikesviile? It changed hands and allegedly names some time ago but the signage remains. I had a horrible experience there was wondering if the management has changed since.

PASTICCIO / PARADISO

Pasticcio used to be one of my favorite local restaurants in Pikesville even back when it was Strapazza. This year however it has been taken over by a new owner and has an alleged name change, Paradiso.
Which sucks big time. (Read my review posted elsewhere on this site). Anyway, my question is; does anyone know anything about the owner/management, is it connected to the other Paradiso restaurants in the area & (please God) is the same Paradiso manager still there?

Paradiso Italian Grille & Bar in Pikesville, MD

RUN, DO NOT WALK past this hideous excuse for a restaurant. (First of all, the old sign is still up which leads me to believe the new owner can't afford a new one) Just before the name change but after the new ownership, 6 of us made the horrible mistake of attempting to dine there on a very UNbusy Thursday night. The waitress didn't speak English AT ALL. The menu was still Pasticcio's but nothing was available any longer, (salads, soups..). Finally, we all cancelled the rest of our order and descended upon the kitchen looking for the manager. He refused to speak to us and ran back into what is probably the depths of hell to avoid us. There aren't enough negative superlatives in the English language to give an accurate rating of this craphole. (Can you say "craphole" on this web site?)

Can you say "butt"? 'cause that is one butt-ugly bitch.

Where can I find Rokeach Nyafat in NJ, NYC or FL

I have heard that Nyafat is no longer manufactured due to all the trans fats. I find it interesting however, that kosher chicken fat is readily available!

RESTAURANT WHERE SENIOR CITIZENS WILL FEEL COMFORTABLE

..and while we're on the subject what ever happened to corned beef with enough fat on it to give it some flavor? Lean corned beef is dry as a bone and if you ask for non-lean you get nothing but fat.

RESTAURANT WHERE SENIOR CITIZENS WILL FEEL COMFORTABLE

No, Hon. I'm referring to the Snyder's that used to be in Owings Mills.

Kosher Bakery in Owings Mills/Pikesville Area

Pariser's for challah, Goldman's for dessert.

RESTAURANT WHERE SENIOR CITIZENS WILL FEEL COMFORTABLE

Absolutely, SUBURBAN HOUSE, PEPPERMILL, WING-WAH for Chinese and just up the road is the fairly new, PASTICCIO for Italian. The prices at all these places are quite reasonable and the food is basic but good. I would suggest Snyder's but mercifully they they have closed. With the exception of The Peppermill, the others are located within a half-mile radius of each other.

Ham on Rye, Extra Sadism

Does anyone remember the original Rattner's in NYC on the lower-east side? I always said the reason we went there was for blintzes and abuse. The average age of the waiter was mayble 105 and one was nastier than the other. By this time (the late 70s) it had become an institution with the reputation of being "colorful". One expected the miserable waiters and mediocre service.

How to Talk Politics Over Dinner

My partner and I are dear friends with another gay couple who are so vehemently racist that it makes me cringe. We are all in the 45-60 age range. I have learned that (especially with today's election!) to simply not discuss politics be it at dinner or anywhere else with them. We simply agree to disagee.

Breast Practices

danieldjwyer- Thank you! Actually I read that about 30 years ago in Playboy! It was one of those questions in the Playboy Advisor.

Breast Practices

Breastfeeding is a perfectly natural practice of which no one should be ashamed or embarassed, especially the mother! That said, I'm a single male and will never have children. However being the oldest of 5 (breastfeeding wasn't fashionable in the 50s) I remember watching my mother breastfeed my younger siblings. She had the good sense not to make a big deal out of it being obscene or "dirty". Sadly, a good deal of our society seems to think it is. I agree it should be done discreetly. The less attention paid, the less commotion made.

Bull-Market Burger

I love hamburgers, I love beef and lots of it. But this is truly nauseating. What's the point of crapping-up a good burger with all this fancy-scmancy garbage? Trust the French.......

But I Come Here Often

OK, I promised to shut up, so I break my promise. There is a restaurant on the Upper West Side of New York City, on Broadway called the Manhattan Diner. I get to New York maybe 4 times a year, tops. I usually stay at "On The Avenue" across the street. The last time we were there one of the waiters who had previously served us, came up to seat us and greeted us by our names!! We hadn't been there in about 3 or 4 months! Needless to say I was most impressed.

But I Come Here Often

On a much more pedestrian level, there is an Italian restaurant that my partner and I frequent, usually with another couple several times a month. We always request the same waitress. Over the years she has come to know our likes, our dislikes and brings us wine or beverages before we ask. To me, attentiveness means more than anything else as far as waitstaff goes in any restaurant. We leave a ridiculously exorbitant tip which of course expalins the wonderfu service. But yuyu hit the nail right on the head. Respect the waitstaff and what hey do and everyone will be happier. Gee, sounds like the Golden Rule, doesn't it??

Bagel Felony

I liked it better when only Jews ate bagels on Sunday morning! The bagel has become so bastardized that anyone baking any kind of round bread can claim it's a bagel. Now this crap comes along and while it might be very tasty, IT'S NOT A BAGEL, dammit! Plus the fact that the good folks at Kraft think we're all to lazy to dip a knife in cream cheese. What's next, lox-flavored Bagel-fuls???

Public Transit Picnic

In so many cities eating on public transportation is illegal but of course rarely is it enforced. It all boils down to plain old consideration and sadly there seems to be less and less of it as the years go by. I guess I'm just an old fart after all.

Is Saving Tables Wrong?

I think it depends on the city, the place and just how crowded it is. When I visited England for the first time many years ago I was amazed at how strangers sat at the same table. While practical, I don't see that happening across the pond. Strangers are far too territorial in this country. It boils down to something called cosideration and sadly that's one thing that isn't inherent.
