Planter's Cheez Balls

They have them here in Austin and I just tasted a few. No cause for alarm - all they did was remind me of Planters Cheez Balls and made me miss them, that is how I ended up here. They taste like a giant cheeto. Nothing special.

Austin Burger Smackdown!

Riata Bar & Grill, in NW Austin in the Riata neighborhood (the name probably gives light to that) has a great burger called the "Some like it hot" with jalapenos and a jalapeno cheddar bun. IF you prefer a bit less heat their tamer All american cheeseburger is just as amazing. I was surprised that such a hole in the wall place has very exceptional bar food.

Why can't I find Tri-tip steak in Texas?

I'm from San Francisco, and tri-tip is a very common cut of steak. I had it all the time and it was my favorite. I moved to Austin, TX last July and right away I could not find it and I still have yet to see it. I see huge briskets at every store, and some say that's the closest I can get. Is this true and if I can get it, where can I get it? Thanks for your insight, I have had some great steak here but I miss tri-tip.

worst tasting candy ever!!!!!

The absolute biggest disappointment I have had candy-wise in recent memory was rainbow twizzlers. I bought a giant bag of the pretty twists expecting all of the flavors to be as delectable and artificial as they sounded - I took one bite of a blue one and almost gagged. I then tried a lemonade flavor, pondered on how these could make it past testing and threw it away!

Peanut Butter

I really like creamy peanut butter on white bread with a layer of Lay's original potato chips. The chips also work well on egg salad sandwiches.

Have you ever "trained" yourself to eat something?

I was going to say that I trained myself to eat olives also, but I do not really like them still. I used to loathe them and now I can stand them on pizza and sometimes give them a try with other things. Its a big step up from a few years ago where anything that even had olives on it I didn't want to eat. I am also the one that did the post on goat cheese. The only 3 foods on my "don't like" list happen to be Goat Cheese, Olives and Horseradish. I would like to train myself to like horseradish. I am giving up on goat cheese though :D

Asian Food Question - (Perhaps asian snack)

Thanks for the suggestion, it's possible that is what it was... However I know my mom thought it was ginger. Haha. Also, it did taste spicy like ginger. I would be willing to take a chance on ginseng but wish I could see a picture of it online.

Asian Food Question - (Perhaps asian snack)

My mother used to get these bags of ginger snacks from chinatown, they were kind of like crystallized ginger snacks, but they don't look like any ginger snacks I see these days on websites for asian foods. They were dark reddish brown tiny strips and they kind of resembled little brown worms with crystallized sugar, I guess, for the lack of a better description. I see crystallized ginger online but its always whitish or yellowish and they are just not the same. In any event, I am not even sure the ginger was meant to be a snack but that is how my mom ate it and it would take a good while to finish the bag. Heck it may have taken years, only a little nibble every other day or so. It was really good though! I would love to buy some to remember the taste but I have gone on asian snack sites and can not find it. Any ideas?

Asian snack food

This brings up a question I have had forever. Goat cheese haters?

Hi everyone, first time poster. I was just curious about how many members find goat cheese (or maybe another food) completely, extremely, ridiculously horrible.

I am a big fan of all kinds of food and cheeses. I made a mistake of assuming all cheese is heavenly and I have sampled goat cheese two times in my life. Both times, I was overwhelmed by disgust, if I didn't know better I would swear it is poison - I am not exaggerating! I can't even swallow it and couldn't even explain how I think it tastes because it was like overwhelming bitterness until I spit it out (the aftertaste was almost as horrible, for 5-10 minutes). I found this very very odd, as I said before I am not a picky eater at all. It was so bad, and not a normal "I don't like that food" reaction that I wonder if this happens to anyone else. I have heard about a gene that makes some people feel this way about cilantro (a genetic thing), except they can tell it tastes like soap. I was just curious, thanks for reading!
