NYC Chowhound - Places to eat in the South End? Standout Homestyle places in North End?

Thanks to you both! I hate coming to town and asking my local friends to pony up NYC prices. But I am still curious

Tamerlanenj - I have eaten at both of those North End places and agree with your assessment. I wont put a gun to your head :)

Blumie - Both Coda and Pops look good, I'll see what my local kids prefer.

I have a few weeks to figure it all out, I appreciate your response!

NYC Chowhound - Places to eat in the South End? Standout Homestyle places in North End?

Hey there -
I live in New York City, but used to live in Back Bay in 2001 and 2002 and I come back once or twice a year to visit. I've eaten at many of the old standbys throughout the years. I've been reading about the fantastic bistros and smaller local places opening in the South End and would love to hear your thoughts. I've eaten at Sibling Rivalry and am looking for something slightly more casual. Barbara Lynch restaurants as good as advertised? Any cuisine recs other than sushi would be appreciated.

Also going to visit the North End - any favorites?

Truffle Mac and Cheese...

Has anyone had a well constructed Mac and Cheese with Truffle Oil recently? Would love suggestions!

Best Mexican (Tamales, Tacos, ect!) in the Cave Creek or Carefree area?

Visiting from NYC and I always complain there's no good Mexican food on this island. Not very familiar with Scottsdale area, but I believe I'll be staying outside of town in Carefree. Anybody know any great places out that way? No need for frills! I appreciate any help!

Dining for Grown Ups in Orlando, Florida near Universal

Thank you everyone! I will check out the suggestions here and on the link above. I love trying local places and getting away from the crowds, so I appreciate your help.

Dining for Grown Ups in Orlando, Florida near Universal

Hi there! I'm coming down from New York City for a few days and staying near Universal Studios. My only dining experiences in this area happened on the Disney Property so I have NO idea where to eat. My husband and I are looking for great food without the tourist trap feel. We eat eveything so any suggestions would be helpful!

Napa Newbie, wants to make the most of her trip.

Hi everyone -

My husband and I are making plans to head to Napa late this summer. We've been hyping this trip for years and now that it's time, I'm a little overwhelmed checking out what wineries to visit.

Our friends have recommended the following:

Quintessa
Rombauer
Cakebread
Mumm
Hess
Sterling

But I wanted to reach out and see what the natives thought. I'm happy to go to some off the beaten path places and would love to experience great local places (and not end up standing next to someone I know from New York. ) I like very crisp minereal types of white wine (Sav Blanc generally) and I've never met a red wine I didn't like.

Any recs would be greatly appreciated.

Cochon V. Herbsaint

Thank you everyone. They both got my attention when I was reading up and THEN I noticed they were both Donald Link. We're also going to August one night too and hope to hit up some casual places during the day.

Cochon V. Herbsaint

Hey there -

I've never been to NOLA and am trying to decide between Cochon or Herbsaint for a Saturday night. I live in NYC and dine out out alot so I'm not particular if one is higher end than another.

Does anyone have strong opinions re: which one is better ? Or More representative of local flavors?

Thank you !!!!

Blau Ganz, The Redhead, Black Pearl, New Green Bo...

L'Orange Blue (is that still open)? Red Lantern

Good burger in Chelsea/Flatiron

What does everyone think of BLT BURGER -- just slightly south of Chelsea. ? BRGR is ok, but not "birthday" worthy.

Delivery in Union Square area?

I recently moved slightly NW of Union Square and need all new places to order from. I'm hoping I have some options other than Republic (which I like, but am already sick of) and Charlie Mom which is just ok.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, but especially a great sushi, indian, chinese and anything you're passionate about!

parpadelle with ragu?

My favorite is NOVITA - Homemade Pappardelle with a Lamb Ragu. My husband and I fight over which one gets to order it.

Macao Trading or Bagatelle

The Cocktails at Macao are the most amazing drinks I've ever had. Seriously enjoyed myself!

Sunday All you can Drink Mimosas and Bloody Marys

Hey there -
Can anyone recommend any places for "all you can drink brunch"? I like Essex a lot, but its VERY crowded. Sunburnt cow is a little too dark and dirty for this weekend. Any other ideas?

Dinner near E 25th & Lex

I second that Novita vote.

Bar Boulud

Anyone been for brunch?

29th & 7th/8th

I have worked in that area for four years and just came across Kofoo -- I am SO SO happy about it. I order a lot from Waldy's, Monster Sushi on 23rd and 7th, Pongsri on 23 between 6 and 7 (although their customer service is pretty poor)

DANIEL V. PER SE

I have had the pleasure of celebrating two major events at both. The night I got engaged we went to Daniel (he sheepishly admited, he couldnt GET a reservation at Per Se). The meal was great, but even with the sheer happiness of just accepting a marriage proposal -- it doesnt stand up to Per Se.

Cheese Blintz and Eggs Benedict Where??

I like the Blintz at Vesulka in the East Village

Otto's just for dessert

I actually think the food at Otto is overrated and the noise level is insane -- but I suffer through it for the Black and White and Olive Oil Gelato!

Dinner during Passover

I often go to Korea town. I can eat the BBQ and the veggies and just forgo the rice and dumplings.

First time Portland visitor - from NYC - the must sees?

Thanks -- I will take a look. I started a fresh posting since sometimes searches are outdated and you miss some of the new must sees.

Thanks

First time Portland visitor - from NYC - the must sees?

Hey there -
I'm coming to Portland for the first time over a holiday weekend. I'm starting to research the "not to be missed" places and would love to local suggestions. I'm from New York City so I'm not opposed to one pricey meal -- but would love to keep the rest at locations with entrees under $20. I'm open to all kind of cuisines. I'll be able to squeeze in three lunches and three dinners and many bars \ lounges :)

I'm told I'll be staying "downtown on SW Jackson Street" if that helps at all.

We're really excited! I know Portland is well known in the foodie world and I'm thrilled to be making the trip,

Please Update Me on Curry Hill South Indian Options

Has anyone ever been to Curry Leaf? I really like their Malai Kofta. Whats the best thing to order at Saravanaas? I've always wanted to go, but I go to Indian alone and am a bit overwhlemed!

Best Tasting Menus with Wine Pairings

This is a total out of the box idea -- but I have always have a very laid back experience at Knife and Fork in the EV. The restaurant isn't on the same level as EMP and PerSe and such -- but I've always really enjoyed myself

Returning to Boston -- need a fabulous place to eat

Of course -- gulp -- Friday and Saturday Night -- I had no idea Sib Riv was so bad! The premise sounded so interesting.

2nd Avenue Deli Reopening

They make it really really hard to order there -- I live in the 'hood. I tried to order delivery -- 2 hour wait. I tried to order so my boyfriend could pick up on his way home (I have a terrible cold) and not only would take out be an hour -- but the guy basically told me to call ahead was stupid. I ordered from Sarges. For delivery matzoh ball soup? It'll be fine

Which steakhouse & WHY?

I have never been to Keen's, but someday I will. I like BLT Steak -- a bit overpriced, but I do enjoy it. I also like Del Frisco's food, but find the atmosphere boring. I dont like the Palm and Capital Grill only because you can go there in MANY cities. We're actually on our way to Porter House -- si I'll let you know how it is

Returning to Boston -- need a fabulous place to eat

Thank you thank you! I've been to Mistral and Elephant Walk and Number 9 and Troquet :) Any work on The Blue Room or Sibling Riv?
