NY hound needs Vegas Group Dinner advice

@lipgloss good question. We'll be taking taxis, so we don't have to stay in the CityCentre area, but I don't want to have to drive too far. Thanks!

NY hound needs Vegas Group Dinner advice

Hi Chowhounds,
I'm setting up four dinners for colleagues and clients. Each group will be between 8 and 10 people. I was looking at Sage, Scarpetta, and American Fish, but I could use more suggestions in the same price range. Where else should we go?

Thanks!

Suggestions for nice group dinner (ala Zuni, Spruce, Boulevard)

Hi SF Hounds,
I'll be visiting from NYC next month, and I'm hosting a dinner for 10 people. Last time I was in San Francisco, I took big groups to Zuni Cafe, Spruce, and Boulevard. This dinner will be similar, so I'm looking for recommendations for any new places in that price range that can handle a big group. Thanks for your help!

Grits in downtown?

Hi ATL hounds,
I am taking a friend out for breakfast tomorrow, and the only thing she's requested is that the place serves grits. We're staying at the Ellis Hotel, and we won't have a car. Can you recommend any restaurants in walking distance?

Thanks!

Best espresso in downtown?

Hi Hounds,
I'm going to be in ATL for some meetings next week, and I have counted up six appointments for coffee. If I'm going to be drinking that many cups of joe, I'd like to at least make sure it's the good stuff. Where are your favorite non-Starbuck coffee spots in Downtown Atlanta?

Thanks!

Bar suggestions for Downtown Atlanta?

Thanks lbarash. Unfortunately, their site says that they don't open until 7pm. We're planning to meet up at 5pm. Do you have other suggestions?

Bar suggestions for Downtown Atlanta?

Hi Hounds,
I'm visiting ATL for work next week from NYC, and I could use some help. I need to take a group of 10 colleagues out for drinks before dinner on Saturday night. We need to stay downtown, and it would be nice if it was walking distance from the Hilton/Marriott Marquis/Ritz Carlton. Can you recommend a bar where we can have a nice celebratory drink and be able to hear each other speak? Definitely no sports bars.

Thanks for your help!

Vegetarian suggestions for Houston?

Hi Houston hounds,
A colleague and I are visiting Houston this week, and we're looking for some tips. Neither one of us eats meat. We are not looking for vegetarian restaurants, but we'd love some recommendations for vegetarian-friendly places. One night we're going to be near the Woodlands, so I'm particularly curious if you have suggestions for that side of the Houston metro area.

Thanks!

hosting dinner for 8. Suggestions?

I wasn't factoring wine into the $75/p. I'd love some suggestions that are similar in quality to Blue Hill/Hearth/Little Owl. Thanks!

hosting dinner for 8. Suggestions?

Hi Hounds,
I'm visiting from NYC next month, and I'm taking a group of 8 folks to dinner. It's a conference, so we'll be in the Hilton all day. I'd prefer to keep the tab around $75 per person. Ideally, the restaurant would be either a good walk or an easy cab ride from the hotel. Where would you recommend?

If it helps to give some context, the places the group has liked in NYC include Little Owl, Market Table, Hearth, and Blue Hill.

Thanks!

Great Group Suggestion in Back Bay or Beacon Hill

Hi Boston hounds,
I'm visiting in a few weeks and will be taking out two groups of friends for nice dinners while I'm in town. I have a reservation at L'Espalier, but I still need to line up one more restaurant for a Saturday night. I was thinking No 9 Park. Where else would you recommend? Any new spots that would be comparable?

Thanks!

special dinner in Brooklyn, Sunday Night

Hi Hounds,
After three years, my wife and I are moving back to Brooklyn this weekend. To celebrate, I'd like to take her for a special dinner on Sunday night. When we used to live here, our favorite spots were Applewood, Rosewater, and Al di la. I don't think Applewood is open on Sunday nights, and I'd rather not wait for a table at Al di La. Where else would you recommend going?

Thanks.

Please Help NY hound throwing TX party

Hi DFW hounds,
I'll be in TX for my wedding in a couple of weeks. In lieu of a traditional rehearsal dinner, we are throwing a party. Since most of the guests are coming from out of state, I'd like to introduce them to some of the best local foods. I'm thinking finger foods and the sort of things that can be eaten while standing, so I can't do steak(!).

One idea was to buy some tamales (any favorite spots?). What other local treats would you suggest?

Thanks for your help.

Anyone tried Saju yet?

No license as of last week, however it's a great spot for lunch. I've taken colleagues there a couple times now and everyone has enjoyed it. They have a ginger/lemongrass/basil lemonade that is refreshing.

Feels like Little Owl, but can handle a group

I'm hosting a group of 10 friends for dinner in August, but I'm stumped on the best place to take them. They are serious about food, and it should be a nice place, but the atmosphere and service can't be too stuffy. Little Owl, Blue Hill, and Hearth are examples of the types of places I have in mind, but I don't think they can handle a large group. Where else would you suggest? Thanks.

best place to buy wine in DFW?

Hi hounds,
I'm posting this on the "Texas" board and not on "Wine" because it's about where people buy wine in the DFW area. Let me know if you think my judgement is off.

I live in NYC, but I'm shopping for wine for our wedding in DFW. I'll need to buy 8-10 cases. Where do people shop when they need to buy in quantity and want both decent wine and a good deal?

I'd like to spend $5-7 a bottle. I've been looking at online options, and even considered asking family in CA to pick it up at Trader Joes and bring it with them to TX. However, I'd rather buy it at a local shop in DFW if I can.

Thanks for your help!

NY Hound visiting Portland & Eugene

My wife and I will visiting Portland and Eugene for four or five days next week. She's never visited Oregon, so I want her to get the best impression of the state. We both prefer seasonal, local, organic when possible. Here are a few places I'm looking for:

good sushi spot
good place for brunch
restaurant with a good local wine list
fun hole-in-wall place for lunch
favorite dinner places in downtown

Thanks for your help!

Turkish Kitchen vs. Ali Baba vs. Ethos

I'd pick Ali Baba. Of three, I like their food the best. I took a group of 12 there a year or two ago, and they had no trouble accomodating us. Everyone left the dinner happy.

thanh thanh in arlington?

Hi Texas hounds,
My fiance and I are visiting the DFW area from NYC, and we're scoping out spots for us to have our wedding banquet.

Someone recommended a place called Thanh Thanh over on Arkansas Road in Arlington. Anyone been there? What do you think of it?

Thanks!

APIZZ - Not Overly Impressed

I've had uneven experiences there. Most recently, I had a terrible dinner there that soured me on the place. The food was okay, not great, and the service was so bad it was comical. We had a 7.30 reservation, but they didn't seat us until 8.30. Several times over the meal, I saw the waiters actually asking people at other tables to pay the bill and leave to make room for the next reservation, even though folks were finishing their wine, deserts, and coffee. There are other places that are as good or better that aren't such a hassle. I didn't feel like it was worth another try.

Dim Sum and Chinese Banquet Hall

Does anyone know where a good dim sum/chinese restaurant is that can also support a wedding banquet?

I'm currently living in NY, but I'm trying to plan a wedding with my fiancee in the dallas/fort worth area. Our families all live down there, so we are trying to plan for a banquet space that would support about 100-125 people.

chowhound road trip

My partner and I are heading up to NH and VT for the long weekend. We have no specific destinations in mind, but we want to orient the trip around good food and good hiking. Where are your favorite places to eat in NH and VT? (Budget and cuisine are not an issue.)

Thanks!

Dim Sum

It doesn't beat dim sum in Flushing, but I like Golden Bridge on Bowery for dim sum in Manhattan.
