It is my understanding that the cake would not be cosidered dairy but rather that it could not be eaten together with meat but could be eaten after meat.
kosher moroccan (or israeli restaurant) in NY area for a party?
Now that Darna has closed, I am a bit stuck. I am hosting a party for about 60 people and would like to have it in a Moroccan restaurant. Short of that, I will settle an Israeli/Mediterranian restaurant. It must be stricltly kosher.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does anyone know where I can purchase kosher striped colored wafer roll (cookies) in the New York area? I know that they exist because one of the companies that is selling pre-packaged Mishloach Manot for Purim has them but they told me that they don't know who manufactures them.

I am making a bat mitzvah for my daughter on Long Island. We can use any caterer with a reliable Hechsher. Most of the main stream caterers are beyond our budget. This will be a relatively low key affair, the menu can be dairy or meat. Any suggestions?

Kosher Skittles
This past Thursday, I took my kids to Dylan's Candy Bar in NYC. Lo and Behold, we found the fans with the ou-d skittles. In fact, the product explicitly states "product is kosher," right next to the ou-d!
Natural Gourmet store in 5 towns
Actually, Trader Joe's used to have the dried sour cherries with a hechsher, but that was years ago. They may have sweet ones with a hechsher, but they definately do not have one with a (reliable) hechsher on the tart ones.

I was in the store and I love it! I have been searching for dried tart cherries with a Hechsher for years and they had them.
They have many products that I have never seen with a Hechsher before, beautiful chocolates, teas, dried fruits, etc.
I hope that the five towns is ready for this kind of store!
Chop-a-Nosh Expanding into Gourmet Glatt
Chap a nosh's take-out is superior to what Gourmet Glatt now sells. The fish department is the best at Brach's; it is consistently fresh. I prefer the beef and chicken at I & D Glatt over any of the five towns supermarkets. I & D, which is located in West Hempstead, delivers every Weds. to the five towns for free. In fact, chicken is $2.19 a lb., which is cheaper than any of the five towns supermarket. The produce dept. at Brach's is the best of the three supermarkets, and the workers are accomodating as opposed to Gourmet Glatt. I like the sushi best at Brach's, the sushi maker is most accomodating, unlike at Gourmet Glatt. Delivery is best from supersol, though their prices are outrageous.

I love the food and ambience at Tevere. Because it is owned by the Latanzzi family, I think that they try to keep its quality consistent with their other non-kosher restaurants.

Isn't the Presto brand self-rising? I am not looking for self-rising cake flour. The King Arthur cake flour is not certified kosher.

Anyone know of a brand of cake flour which has a reliable kosher certification and is parve? There are only two that I know of, Softassilk and Down's, one became ou-dairy and the other just has a K.

Restaurant for Sheva Berachos
Thank you all for the recommendations. In the end, we decided to book Chosen Island in Cedarhurst. The cost is $30 a person, including tax and tip. Their food is good. They give you a choice of appetizer, choice of soup or salad, and several main dishes to choose from, in addition to dessert. Their party room is nice, and the service is efficient. Will let you know how it goes.
Restaurant for Sheva Berachos
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced restaurant in which to make Sheva Berachos for about 25 people? Brooklyn or Manhattan preferred. Thanks!
Ruthie's in Cedarhurst
My family and I liked Ruthie's. It was the one place in the five towns that all of my kids could find something that they wanted to eat. Maybe Ruthie's is always emplty because they STOPPED TAKING CREDIT CARDS!
Kosher Skittles
Its a tube filled with skittles and at the top is a fan (that actually worked). Oh!Nuts! is a candy store in the five towns certified by the Vaad of the Five Towns and doesn't carry anything without a reliable Hechsher. The package was clearly labeled ou-d.

As a treat for my children for Chanukah, I bought them kosher skittles in packages that were fans. I purchased them at Oh! Nuts! in the five towns, which has since sold out of them. They were OU-D. I haven't been able to find any skittles in regular packages with a Hechsher.
Any leads would be helpful. My kids loved them!

ISO kosher tamarind paste
The only place you can get it is in the kosher grocery stores on Kings Highway in Brooklyn, and even then it can be difficult to find with reliable kosher supervision. One of the stores on Kings Highway, Holon grocery, has a website and you may be able to order it from them.
