Looking for the quintessential true sushi bar/experience in New York.

Thanks for the detailed answer. Good to know about the "being rushed" at Yasuda. It may not be a strike against them but its just good to know.
We are a little hesitant to try the thing that is hot or trendy right now as we really want to try something that has been around for a while and is consistently good and has made a place in that culture. We are big foodies and love sushi. Going to New York, a big part of the trip is planning the meals/food, lol. We actually have a dry erase board to help us plan our dining, lol. Sadly I keep adding to the list instead of erasing.

I should mention we are leaning towards Sushi Yosada and sitting at the sushi bar if we can.

Any ideas? We are visiting in a month and are looking to do this one night. We decided against Masa after reading reviews. It sounds good but just crazy expensive and I am a firm believer that the most expensive doesnt always mean the best.
Thanks.

Imo's-STL-Delivers NATIONWIDE!

I know this is an old post but we ordered Imos to be shipped and I am saddened to say its not the same pizza you get from one of their stores. Its close but not an Imos Pizza. It has the Provel cheese and maybe the same sauce but thats where the similarities stop. We ordered Bacon Pizza and instead of the strips of bacon that you get when you order from an Imos, this pizza was covered in overly salty bacon bits. Imos is using a company called Pizza Nationwide for all of their items for shipping and its just not the same product. Not sure how they can label it an Imos Pizza.

EL Chinese real and excellent Chinese in Fort Myers...Dim Sum! Cuddle Fish!

Lilmis,
That sounds really interesting and good! Just one question - what is the average amount of items people would check off on a menu like that?

stone crab in fort myers

No, over cooking doesn't cause "sticky meat" but as you found out you can reheat frozen claws so they come out nicely but unfortunately not a lot of places can take the time to do that. The usually just pull them out of the freezer and let them thaw since most people do not like warm claws.

stone crab in fort myers

Well foodiefoodgood, on my last try of Stone Crabs at Skip One I asked the server if they were frozen and she wasn't sure. She offered to get me something else (she saw how much the meat was sticking to the shells) and I said no. From that, I can only assume that sometimes they are. I like Skip One for just about everything else but I will not waste my money on Stone Crabs there when there is a chance they might have been frozen.

A lot of places do start with fresh claws at the start of season and with the excitement of Stone Crab Season they will go through many pounds of them regularly. Unfortunately after the excitement dies down and/or the prices are a little too high for it to be something people can afford often, some inventories will be frozen so not to waste what was purchased.

Fishmonger gets my vote. I like Skip One Seafood but I tried stone crabs there twice last season and they were obviously previously frozen. The texture was not good and the meat stuck to the shell (a sure sign of frozen meat).
I hate to admit it (because I hate the place), Pinchers isn't a bad choice either. They go through enough of them that the inventory is always fresh. We went there a couple of weeks ago and the Stone Crabs were sweet and easily came right out of the shell.

Fort Myers, Cru changing again, etc etc

No surprise there when it comes to Shannon. I think we all knew that ego of his wasn't going to let him stay somewhere and share the kitchen with another Chef. I too loved Cin Cin and was so sad to see it close.
Had a nice dinner at La Trattoria Caffe' Napoli the other night. Can't wait for the expansion of the place to open.

Hickory BBQ Fort Myers

Big Daddys BBQ is usually at the Shell Station on Homestead in Lehigh Acres every Sunday and its pretty good BBQ. They do the mustard based sauce and the meat just falls off the bones and is nice and tender. The Pulled Pork was fantastic. They are there other days too but its best to call ahead - 2395608464 8632938701

Restaurants in Key West

Pisces is great and very romantic and cozy. Seven Fish is delish! but do make a reservation a couple of days in advance. A&B is also really, really good but they are only open for dinner and do not do happy hour. They have a beautiful wrap around balcony that overlooks the water so make a reservation and ask for that section. The 1st floor restaurant in that building is called Alonzo's Oyster Bar and they are open for lunch and dinner and do a great happy hour but get there early because is can fill up. Santiagos Bodega is a wonderful Tapas restaurant but its very small and very popular so once again make reservations a couple days in advance. El Siboney is about authentic as you are going to get for Cuban.

Another vote for Crave. Try the Shrimp and chedder cheese grits. Skip one is good for fresh seafood. Lately I have been a big fan of Stir Crazy out at the Coconut Point Mall.
