Quiet, parent-friendly eats below 23rd St?

How about Union Square Cafe?

Shopsins/Di Fara's - Open Thanksgiving?

Thanks guys.

Shopsins/Di Fara's - Open Thanksgiving?

Unfortunately, neither Shopsins nor Di Fara's websites indicate what their hours (if any) are for this Thursday and Friday. Does anyone know if they are open either day? Much appreciated. Thanks.

Out of Town Guests: Dinner for 6 (Special Occasion)

I scored Babbo reservations for 6. I'm going to scope it out this weekend to see if/how much an issue the room may be. Thanks for all the tips and I have a bunch of contingency plans set up!

Out of Town Guests: Dinner for 6 (Special Occasion)

Thanks for everyone's input. I made a reservation at Olana, just to hold something while I continue to ponder it over. I'm also looking into maybe doing Gramercy Tavern's pre-fixe. I'm worried that some of these places might be a bit too adventurous for my non-foodie parents and older guests. Any recommendations for more bland (for lack of a better word to describe the opposite of rich!) places? A basic steakhouse would be 'bland' in my book, but I was looking to go someplace that is a bit more adventurous. Olana seems to fit the bill (I think) as to GT. Any others that my parents and grandparents wouldn't be scared to eat?

Thank you. I'm definitely considered Olana. A few other options were: Union Square Cafe, Picholine, and Veritas. Thanks!

She'll actually be in a walker, so I guess that's slightly better. How was the noise level and comfort level at Babbo? We don't need it to be stuffy and quiet (which I know Babbo isn't), but is it too loud and cramped to enjoy our meal?

Out of Town Guests: Dinner for 6 (Special Occasion)

Thank you so much for the responses. Olana looks really interesting. I may have to look into it further. How cramped is the downstairs portion of Babbo? I'm guessing it isn't a good idea for 6 of us to go there?

Out of Town Guests: Dinner for 6 (Special Occasion)

We are celebrating a graduation in May and I'm having some out of town guests coming in. The reservations should be made within the next few days (for those places with 30 day advance). I'd like to take them to a memorable place, but below $80/pp.

There are a few issues that might confuse things!

First off, there are a few heavy eaters that I want to be sure are 'full' after the meal (especially after dropping $$).

Secondly, there are 2 individuals that need easy access due to a wheelchair. Therefore nothing in an upstairs room without an elevator.

Thirdly, I want to make sure its memorable (food, atmosphere, service). None of the guests, aside from myself have been to any great restaurants in NYC.

I was contemplating:

Babbo: either pasta tasting, regular tasting, or off menu (worried about access to top room and if that's not possible the level of comfort for us on the bottom)

Gramercy: price-fix (is this enough to eat?!)

Del Posto Enoteca: (good value, but worth spending more for much better meal elsewhere?)

Any other suggestions? I'm a big Danny Meyer fan and feel that his locales will be a better fit for the group that I have, but I'd like to try Babbo. I'm open to anything! Thanks for your help.

Iced Tea NYC

Gramercy and EMP have great ice tea. I really enjoy Honest Tea that is bottled and can be found in a lot of places, especially in Whole Foods. My biggest pet peeve is finding great Ice Tea and not getting free refills!

Lunch for Graduation Celebration

Great to know. Thanks for the information and your kind words!

Lunch for Graduation Celebration

I'm having my law school graduation in May and rather than going out to a nice dinner, we may do a fancy lunch. There will be 6 of us (2 in their 80s) so a late-lunch might actually be better.

I'm leaning towards going to Gramercy Tavern and ordering off the ala carte menu. Another option is The Modern. Does anyone have any other good suggestions for a quality weekend lunch?

Law School Graduation Dinner...

We are going out to celebrate a law school graduation in May, so I was hoping for some good suggestions. There will be 5 of us and we all have varied tastes. It seems that we could either do a traditional ~$85 price-fixe or try to go a little cheaper (a la carte). Of these restaurants, which would you go to (feel free to make other suggestions):

Gramercy Tavern (Main Room)
Gramercy Tavern (Front Room)
Modern
Bar Room at Modern
Eleven Madison Park
Union Square Cafe
Gotham
Upstairs at Bouley

Obviously we'd like to keep the costs 'reasonable' but if one place is heads and shoulders above the rest, we'd do it. I know that Bar Room, the Front Room at Gramercy, and USC seem to be cheaper than the price-fixe menus at the other places. Our crowd will mostly be meat-eaters rather than seafood and we want the atmosphere to be somewhat relaxed and not stuffy. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
