Where can I buy Branzino in Houston?
Airline Seafood on Richmond is worth checking out.
Randall's Fried Chicken
Specifically the Randall's at Shepherd and Westheimer location right? Thats is the one that I thought was supposed to have the best FC.
The Best Thing You Ever Ate: Houston
There was this braised chicken in milk dish at Aries that I remember being incredible. 10+ years ago.
Grilled Snapper at Tampico
Primo's Carne Asada in early 80's
Pasta and Fresh truffles at Tony's
The first molten lava cake I ever had at Morton's many years ago.
Toro sushi at Kata Robata
Swiss chard and ricotta pasta at Giamcomo's.
ISO Great Wine List
Cova is a great place to explore and learn. They have a lot of different types or "flight" tastings to choose from.
ISO Great Wine List
Cova's food is good. Simple. Have not been in a year though. Would lean to going ro the coca on kirby.
Have you been to Tony's?
ISO Great Wine List
Cova hand selects their wines. try it out but its not a special place.
Tony's is your best bet when its all said and done.
ISO Great Wine List
I could be wrong but outside of a steakhouse, I don't know if youston has a GREAT wine list? There are some good ones for sure but not top end.
Some other good ones worth checking out might be Cafe Rebelaise, small french bistro. I love this place despite how crowded it gets.
Prego has a nice wine list, as do the other restaurants associated with prego, backstreet cafe and Hugo's.
An alternative would be a place like Cova, the owner hand selects the wines for the store/restaurant/bar. Again, it leans toward the moderate priced wines. Really great selection in the $50-$100 range. Food menu is small.
I think Cafe Rebelais is your best bet.
Some other restaurants to check out that fit the french american bill would be Phillipe mentioned above, Chez Nous in Humble, Aura in Missouri City, Brasseri Max and Julie, Mockingbird Bistro(awesome happy hour and awesome bar menu). Cinq in the Hotel L Columbe D'or might be worth checking out. I have never been but it was reviewed this summer I believe and the review made my mouth water. I am pretty sure it was a Houston Chronicle review?
ISO Great Wine List
I would look at the Brasserie 19 wine list online and see what it has on it. Probably solid but not stellar but the prices are usually awessome here.
Tony's has a big time wine list.
Phillipe's wine list is really nice but a bit small and focused on french. I had a nice Châteauneuf-du-Pape a few months ago.
Thai in Houston
I think this thread started before there was a Houston Board.
FWIW-Vieng Thai is the place now.
Mozzarella Prosciutto roll in Houston
I'd try Nundini's first. They have prociutto and they have mozz.
Bark
Tried this and it is not much better than bark, maybe used wrong chips. I know Central Market has valrhona chips but I think I would go broke using them. Haha.
Bark
My wife makes a lot of cookies during Christmas and its great. However she uses the melting "chocolate" or bark which I personally would rather not use. What is best thing to use besides bark for dippping cookies, pretzels...? Genache? Probably needs to be milk choc in order to not stray too far away from bark.
lunch near the Art Car Museum
I would say Backstreeet Cafe would be a nice choice as well, very good wine list. The food is usually very good but I have recommended it and it dissapointed. Its on Shepherd or just off shepherd.
Have not been to Coppa but the owners always have a great wine list. Its on Washington not very far from Art Car.
What about Brennans? Probably my favorite sunday spot. Don't get there much because it's hard to have a few mint julips and come home and hang with the kids but if I were to do that it would be here.
Brennan's has best atmosphere followed by Backstreet. Both are in the very top of houstons outdoor dining IMO if the weather is good.
Best pho in Houston?
Pho Binh Trailor on Beamer. Its 15-20 minute drive. Rich broth, ask for extra beef fat.

Downtown dinner suggestions
Get a cab and go to Demarco. Its not far but it is a great restaurant.
Niu Rou Xian Bing At Xiong's Cafe on Bellaire Bl.
I really like Xiongs, also check out the place on the other side of Bellaire next to Airiang Korean Restaurant, they have great dumplings and a pastry type dish that is a steal at $.95 and is the size of a small calzone. Its stuffed with veg's though, not meat.

Real hot dogs
I would check with Pete's Fine Meats first then maybe check with the guys at Revival in the Heights.
Downtown dinner suggestions
There are good restaurants in the area but short drives will give you even better options IMO. The restaurant in the Four Seasons Quatrro was good when I ate there a long time ago.
Vic and Anthony's is a big time steak house and so is strip house. Rober Del Grande has a restaurant, The Grove nearby that looks good but I have never eaten there.
Not too far away is a little vietnamese restaurant called Cafe TH, I think he does a 3 course dinner on Sat and it is BYOB. Im sure rest of menu is available as well. Cheap good food.
Ibiza is probably a little over a mile away and is a good choice if you like wine, very reasonable wine mark ups and usually a well selected list.
Coming Home for the Weekend
Cafe TH for Banh Mi on Pierce is really good they have a peppered ham that is really nice on the combo BM. So is Cafe Don where the meatball banh mi is the best.
Cajun/Po Boys, I say BB's for either the shrimp po boy or the roast beef po boy. Mardi Gras for more traditional cajun.
BBQ maybe Gatlains on West 19th and almost next door an awesome burger place called Hubcap. I LOVE the muffallata burger.
My favorite tex mex places are Lopez, El Tiempo, the original ninfas on Navigation street, Hugo's is a fantastic Mex/Mex place, higher end dining. Pico's is a Mex/Tex place that is very good as well. Otillas on Longpoint is excellent from what I remember.

El Jardin
I always found El Jardin to be good but not worth a drive. I ate there when I lived in the area but have not been since. Its real mex tex, not real Mexican food IMO?

El Jardin Restaurant

1st Date Restaurant Suggestions
AT ONE TIME Alexander the Great Greek on Alabama and Sage was a fantastic restaurant with some of Houston's best seafood. Have not been in years though. This would be first date worthy if still good.

Alexander the Great Greek Restaurant

Calphalon
I have a calphalon pan, about 15 years old. I guess it was supposed to be semi non stick...It has lost all of its non sticking abilities, I assume from people washing it wsith a bunch of soap or from using metal spatula. Can I bring this pan back or is it toast? You can't season these like cast iron can you?

Best iftar/Pakistani food (buffet or a la carte) during Ramadan?
Let me add himalaya has haleem for special occasions specificqlly I know he cooks it for catering jobs during Ramadan. You would have to ask for it though and be lucky.
Royal is kind of known for their magaz.
Best iftar/Pakistani food (buffet or a la carte) during Ramadan?
Royal on Bissonnet is a great hole in the wall Pakistani joint. I think they take tradition ppretty seriously. For instance there is q male side of the restaurant and a family side.
Aga on wilcrest at de freeway is a very good paki place.
Himalaya is awesome. I like the owner but many people are turned off by him.
El Tiempo - is there a preferred location ?
Ninfa's on Navigation only! The fajita burger is outstanding.

Any New Brick Oven Pizza Places in town to try?
Piola in Midtown has a very good carbanara pizza. That's all I get there, wish it had a little more bacon but then again I always can use more bacon.
Best breakfast tacos in Houston?
Sorry but being authentic is irrelevant to me when you say something is the best. Taste is the most imprtant. I really like taqueria laredo on the north side, they have fantastic tacos.
Also, this thread is really old, how did you pull up this thread and decide to post?
Large event in Houston next May
Maybe catered by Beavers? They do other stuff in addition to bbq but it would be pretty texan ish type stuff.
