gemstone kosher caterers?
A friend of mine used Gemstone for a baby naming: dairy. She was blown away by how easy they were to work with, how affordable they were, and how absolutely gorgeous the presentation was. She actually mentioned how beautiful everything was several times to me. She said it was such a relief to not have to worry about anything with a newborn. I have personally enjoyed several of their hallmark cholents. I just checked their Facebook page, and it looks like they did some sort of sushi event for AIPAC. I definitely remember reading an extremely flattering review of their booth at Kosher Food & Wine last year.
Has Blue Ribbon BBQ gone downhill?
I used one of my three Groupons for Redbones this week, and got my usual burnt ends sandwich with cole slaw and beans. It was wonderful, and my husband said his pulled pork was great, too. Redbones for me has always been a disappointment. I send the brisket back EVERY time. Always, always dry.

Need kosher treat by Friday, 10/8, Metrowest
Skittles has gelatin in them, rendering them not kosher. So do marshmallows, Starbursts, and Gummy candies. Check out the Butcherie on Harvard Ave. in Brookline. Everything in there is kosher, and they have a great candy selection.
kosher lunch
The Jerusalem Pita and Grill in Coolidge Corner is very good, too. http://www.jerusalempita.com/
Ok, I'll give you 4 dollars, where are you going to spend it for lunch. And here's the catch- no pizza.
$1 taco Tuesday at La Verdad on Landsdowne Street
Best Carrot Cake
I am looking for the area's best carrot cake for my friend's birthday party.
(I've had Party Favors and was extremely disappointed.)
where to eat in brighton?
Esperia Grill in Brighton Center has incredible Greek food. I have never had a bad bite of food from there. From their skordalia to their falafel to their lamb to their desserts. Everything is amazing.
Vegetarian dinner?
YoMa, the Burmese place in Allston, has an entirely separate vegetarian menu. It's delicious food and VERY reasonable.
vegetarian ethnic
In terms of good vegetarian ethnic food, YoMa in Allston has an entirely separate vegetarian menu. The food is great and ridiculously inexpensive.
I would not recommend Grezzo, the raw foods place in the North End. Interesting food adventure, but not worth the price.
sumac in brookline?
The Butcherie on Harvard Ave. in Brookline has many spices imported from Israel, including sumac.
Short leash in Cambridge
I just want to reply with a few suggestions that I have developed over the past few years living in Boston.
I too am lactose intolerant -- don't know if you're aware that butter, hard cheeses and goat cheese will be fine for you. I have terrible acid reflux, and don't do shellfish or pig.
Nonetheless, I have never gone hungry in this city.
In Harvard Square, John Harvard's does a nice lentil salad. It might come with feta, but you can just say hold the feta. Steamed veggie dumplings at that Chinese shop on Mass Ave. should be fine too. And they now do some sort of steamed bun at the Tea Zone place. You can get half a dozen for a couple of bucks. At Pho there is a sweet and sour salmon soup that comes with basil and rice. The sour might be too acidic for you, but it's worth investigating. Grendels' menu is big enough for you to mix and match stuff on it. Don't be afraid to say hold this, or hold that. They have always been good about switching out sides for things that don't upset my stomach. I would personally advise you to stay away from Indian. Creamy things sneak up easily in dishes, and the spice might upset your stomach. Wagamama has one dish, a noodle soup with chicken, that doesn't have shellfish, lactose, or anything fried in it. And if you tell them you are allergic to something, they make a big note of it and pass that along to the kitchen.
I would also skip Border Cafe because it is full of dairy, and acidic tomatoes, and shellfish seems to creep up in a lot of their Southern dishes.
If you can handle bready things, then yes, Darwin's would be a good choice, and they have salads to go too. I haven't really tried Veggie Planet, but from the looks of their menu, they seem to be a pretty good option and are most likely very accomodating.
Good luck.
gluten-free bakery
Kick Ass cupcakes in Davis Square always has a gluten free cupcake of the day. Can't think of anywhere else at the moment.
Bridal Shower in Cambridge/Somerville
I am looking for a place that will accomodate up to 60 people in the Cambridge/Somerville area. Waltham will also work. We also need a place that has good parking (on-street or a garage nearby) because a lot of people are coming in from out of town.
I've screened the board, and I am only coming up with stuff on the North Shore, or things that cost much more than we are budgeted for. We'd like to keep it under $25 a head.
The brides are vegetarian.
30th Birthday Meal
My husband wants to take me out for a special birthday dinner on Thursday night, just the two of us. I've scoured the board, and all the birthday meal suggestions I came up with were for large crowds. This is for just the two of us. I don't eat pig or shellfish, so the fancy restaurants in town don't look overly appealing. Does anyone have any suggestions for a very nice birthday dinner?
Katmandu Spice Top to Bottom
If you take the Red Line to Alewife and walk up towards the bus depot, you will hit the Minute Man Bike Path. It's about a two minutes walk up the bike path. If you turn onto Magnolia or Varnum, you will be at Katmandu Spice in under three minutes :-)
Australian Liquorice?
Cardullo's has an ENORMOUS licorice selection. It's in the aisle with all the imported British chocolates.
As for the green apple flavor, I have seen it, along with mango, at Party Favors in Brookline's Coolidge Corner.
