drinking vinegars?

So three years later I finally made some drinking vinegar! They are super easy to make - and just as good as store bought (or Pok Pok's homemade) in my opinion. I had to share. Sorry!

What to do with jar of fig jam?

A grilled fig sandwich!

I love, love, love fig jam. Thumb print cookies with the jam. Balsamic, garlic, salt and fig jam shaken with olive oil makes a great dressing too.

crab emergency -- need suggestions

Melt some butter and put them all out - since they are already cracked they will be easy to eat. I bet people will love them. I would be there in a heartbeat for a plate of cooked, cracked dungi crab

Rabbit in PDX?

I finally made the rabbit dish. It was great! I ended up buying a whole rabbit at Sheridan Grocery and having the butcher cut it apart for me.

Dungeness crab PDX

Go get a few at the grocery store. They are in season now. Have the fishmonger clean them. Cover your table with newspaper, open a bottle wine, add a baggette and a bowl of melted butter with lemon and there ya go. I think that is the best way to try them!

Rabbit in PDX?

Thank you everyone! I am going to call around today. I had no idea it could be $15 a pound. I may be having second thoughts about trying it out.

(Any fabulous recipes? My hubby adores rabbit and I decided to conquer it!)

Rabbit in PDX?

Anyone know where I can buy some rabbit in PDX? Preferably from a local farm, no hormone, etc. I have never bought one, so any suggestions on what to look for when buying would be welcome as well.

Next Food Network Star?

So, I admit, don't throw me off the boards, but I applied for season 5. Did anyone else? Has anyone heard back from them?
They kept pushing back the application deadline - first it was Oct. 31, then Nov. 15, then Dec 1. I wonder what is going on?

Wasabi starts?

Does anyone know where to find wasabi starts? A few years ago I bought them from Frog Farms, but they are no longer responding to emails .. so I am assuming they are out of business. I am in PDX, but would be willing to pay shipping,

Advanced Cooking School in Chiang Mai?

Hi there - I am planning a trip to Thailand this summer and I would love to take some cooking classes. I am pretty well versed on Asian cooking and I would like to expand my skills. Does anyone have a recommendation of a cooking school that does more then just the basics?

Suggestions of schools and/ or moderately priced places to stay would be great. I am looking for a 2-5 day course.
Thanks so much

MYO Fizzy Water

This is the best thing I have bought myself! We have had it a year and it is wonderful. I am buying it for my folks this year.

Wine Country?

Thank you for all that great information. We can't wait to go - I will report back.
Thanks again!

drinking vinegars?

Yeah, i didn't like the pineapple vinegar either. I tried it all sorts of ways, and in the end just added it to salad dressings and a marinade.

I want to try the honey flavored next.

The orange house in Mississippi?

It used to be a realitor's shop on Mississippi Ave in Portland, Oregon. Anyone heard when it is going to open up? It looks like it will be a great bar/ rest.

I haven't seen any news about it. Thanks.

Wine Country?

Hi - My husband and I are planning our honeymoon for Montreal and Quebec. We had heard mention of wine country - B&Bs, tasting rooms, vineyards, resturants - between the 2 cities. We are from Oregon and love trying local wines. We are total foodies (but not wine snobs!)

We are making a triangle trip in and out of Burlington, VT. We will have a car.

Any recommendations or suggestions? We are looking for a moderately priced B&B and some winery suggestions (if there are any!).

Also, if wineries isn't a great idea - any other place to visit for a day between Montreal, QC, or Burlington would be great.
Thanks

Thai Corn Chowder

I am looking for a hearty, vegetarian corn chowder recipe with a Thai twist. I made a pretty good one with yellow curry, canned corn, coconut milk and some thai basil. I will be cooking for 25 on Friday - and want to serve this soup with make your own salad rolls.

Any ideas?

Foodie gift for a new husband?

Thanks for all these great ideas! We aren't really gift givers generally, so no, I don't know what he wants. Coupons will have to be added into the mix1
I love the idea of a proscuitto tasting menu, I have some homemade fig jam that I made this fall to add to the platter. hmmmmmmmmm

Any recommendations for a wine that matches proscuttio :)

Let's talk store-bought yogurt -- what do you like?

I love Tillamook huckleberry yogurt. I could eat that every morning.
(I mix in a bit of ground flax seed too!)

Foodie gift for a new husband?

Mmm, chocolate paint :)

$100 - $150. I am the cook in the family, he is the eater. If that helps. I usually just cook up a fancy meal, but I would like a gift to give this time.

Foodie gift for a new husband?

I need some suggestions for an anniversary gift for my new hubby - we didn't have much of a holiday because we got married in the middle of the holiday hubub. I was thinking Valentine's Day would be a good time to give a great gift.

My only idea so far has been a leg of proscuitto from Salumi. He has talked about that for a while. But, I am not sure we need a whole leg in the house.

Any other ideas?

drinking vinegars?

Check Fubon on 82nd! I have found all sorts of flavors there!
A great cocktail is 1 part gin, 1 part apple vinegar, 2 parts tonic and a slice of lemon.
So refreshing!

Drinking Vinegars

I saw Chinese or Japanese drinking rice vinegars at the local Asian market, then I tried the apple flavored one in a cocktail at a bar (in PDX). They are fabulous.
We now drink them(love the apple, lemon, and pineapple flavors) in cocktails or just mixed with seltzer. I am wondering if anyone knows more about these flavored vinegars. They are sorta like syrups, but with a fruit and vinegar kick.
Are they good for me? (I have heard vinegar is good for heartburn, etc.)
Are they Japanese or Chinese?
Any other ideas for drinking them?
Anyone else love them?
