Authentic Indonesian food at Lakeline, Barton Creek & Mueller Farmer's Markets

Algiani's Indonesian Cuisine now has booths at the Saturday Lakeline and Barton Creek Mall and at the Mueller Market on Sunday. I grew up eating home-made Indonesian food with my extended Dutch Indonesian family. Algiani's is very authentic. I am already addicted to the spicy nasi goreng. Last week's beef rendang was spiced perfectly and I'm looking forward to this week's opor ayam (chicken in coconut milk.) I also sampled a coconut custard with jackfruit that I wish I'd taken home for dessert.

Take-out samosas

MGM Indian Market moved and took my source of home-made samosas with it! Anyone have suggestions for take-out samosas somewhere around central or north central Austin?

food at downtown farmer's market or hope farmer's market?

Almost weekly, I buy Indian food from a vendor at the Hope Farmer's Market--the chutneys and the flatbreads filled with lentils. I go home and warm the flatbread up in a cast iron pan, and spread the tomato chutney on it. I have no idea if that's how one is supposed to eat that, but it tastes great. After that, I have half of one of those small fruit pies from Pie Fixes Everything. She has nice crusts on her pies and they are never too sweet. She uses seasonal fruit. I've eaten tamales from another vendor, and sometimes I buy bread from the Phoenix Bakery. The charcuterie stands have also had my business--usually, I buy one of the pates. I've been to almost every farmer's market in town but I go to the Hope market the most. It's not all that crowded, it's easy to find parking and it's always laid back. Don't tell anyone, okay?

Pflugerville/North Austin

We were at the European Bistro a week ago, and the Hungarian cabbage was tart and crispy. I couldn't stop eating the generous portion of jagerschnitzel. I actually skipped dessert, which is almost unforgivable. They do have the best European style cakes and pastries.
Chowhounders, the Bistro is struggling in this recession. I would really miss the old fashioned elegance, excellent pastries and the graciousness of the sister-owners if it were to close. I will be visiting more this fall and I hope they can stay in business.

Chuy Bakery/Panaderia off Ohlen and 183

This bakery was most like the bakeries I went to in Mexico.
We ordered the huevos y chorizo torta con todo which was extremely delicous. Besides the named ingredients, it came with pickled jalapenos, avocado and lettuce. The coffee was good, also. I'll be back for these!

bahn mi

I tried Thanh Nhi and liked it very much. The Bahn mi were pork and pate based; I think there was a chicken variation. Ingredients very fresh and tasty. The bread was a crispy bollilo--seems to be the Texas standard for bahn mi, rather than French bread. The pho had a nice tasty broth. I will definitely return.
