Princess Garden Dim Sum

I read today that Princess Garden (Rice and Larpenteur) is doing dim sum on weekends. I can't get myself to drive to St. Louis Park, so I am close to praying that It's decent! This weekend doesn't work--can someone go and report back? Princess Garden was one of the first places this side of the river to serve food other than subgum chow mein. I didn't even know they were still open. Fingers crossed--they used to be great!

Rusty Taco--First visit report

Thanks. The amazing thing about Pinkberry (to me) is that their yogurt is non-fat and delicious non-the-less. I can't tell about Truberry from their website, but will check it out!

Eden Prairie - Edina Update

So if I really like Punch pizza (Highland--haven't tried others) what does that mean? Maybe we can express preferences and leave room for other opinions?

Fried Chicken - Twin Cities

Magnolias on Payne and Magnolia on the East Side of St. Paul has great fried chicken. It is the quintessential neighborhood place--also great breakfast, hot turkey sandwiches made with real turkey, biscuits. . .we drive it from Mac Groveland routinely for breakfast (I get wings with my breakfast!)

Rusty Taco--First visit report

Was close to Trader Joe's at 11:15 and decided to brave the parking lot to try Rusty Taco. I ordered 4 tacos to go and shared them with dh. Results: I would go back again in a minute for the brisket taco and shrimp taco. Not very happy with the pork/achiote one. The chicken fajita one was fine, but not special imo. I love the concept of the place--informal, not a chain (yet?) with friendly staff. The frozen yogurt place wasn't open yet, but I'd like to try that too. I LOVE Pinkberry, and haven't found anything similar here.

Best Place for Mussels?

Oops! I meant to reply to the original post. I love Meritage--the mussels are always great and I love the frites with béarnaise sauce.

50th anniversary venue for my parents

Gather at the Walker is available for private events. Their food is terrific and the space is unique.

Heartland, Hiedi's, or Ngon's Entrees?

Heidi's!!!

MSP Airport-Great Meal

We like Kramarczuk's for breakfast, which is the meal we normally eat at the airport!

Downtown Minneapolis No Carb meals

If you have the money, Manny's! Big steak with asparagus, blue cheese dressing on salad.

Bar La Grassa--First time

Thank everyone! Dealing with the fact that I can't eat as much as I used to, here goes! We had: Crab and avocado salad. Egg and lobster bruschetta. Calamarata pasta with tuna. Gnocchi. The brucshetta and calamarata were our favorites. By the time the gnocchi came, we were full and couldn't enjoy it as much as we might have. We think this was also partly because the tuna had so much flavor and the gnocchi are more subtle. We thought the service was great. Our server was slammed with tables, including one for eight. She stayed friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient throughout. When I was too full for desert, a good excuse for another trip, she brought me a single candle standing upright on a plate! The ambience and noise level reminded me of New York (in a good way). I'd love to go back and sit at the bar. This place definitely goes in my top 10!

Reactions to City Pages "Best of..."???

No. City Pages reports on all sorts of things from a different perspective than the Strib or PP. An overall very good thing IMO. How one feels about their "best of" choices for food may be different.

A more specific Thai question

Try Supatra's on West 7th. It's been awhile since I've been there, but I was happy last time.

Bar La Grassa--First time

I'm being taken to Bar La Grassa for my birthday, and would appreciate knowing your favorite things. I'm sure there's a tread somewhere, but can't find it, so thanks in advance for your thoughts.

On's Kitchen

The most recent time was on a weekday. I would guess that if you tell the server that time is an issue, they would help?

Dining up and down University Avenue

Btw, they have a parking lot and there was access to it last night from either direction on University. Good food and very appreciative owners.

Dining up and down University Avenue

Going to Cheng Heng for dinner tonight. A friend who had lunch there yesterday says they've been hit hard!!!

Favorite Thai Restaurant

Sorry to hear that. I've had two really good meals there within the last month. I didn't have pad thai though.

On's Kitchen

Great dinner with friends. Stuffed chicken wings, spring rolls, and 4 dishes to share. 5 spice pork, chinese broccoli with thick bacon (pork belly), Pad tai with mock duck and a savory dish with wide noodles whose name escapes me. All was delicious and service was friendly and prompt. Parking easy to get to if you approach from the east--they weren't busy enough for how great the food is!!!

Joan's in the Park

Since it's close to where I live, I love the idea of an upscale, casual, Chef-driven restaurant--even if it's just good food creatively prepared--and not a destination restaurant. Everything can't be Heidi's. I'm going with aunt and sister on April 6th and will check back in.

Great meal at Gather

Gather at the Walker is open on Thursday evenings, with special prices for cocktails and small plates. Four of us shared small plates. Empanadas, banh mi, grilled cheese sandwich assortment, and Tim McGee (he's their current guest chef) endive salad. We followed up with the slow roasted salmon and short ribs, and ended with the gingerbread desert. Service was excellent. I've now had the salmon 3 times, and each time it makes me laugh out loud because it's so good.

Bun bo hue

Que Nha is their other restaurant. Btw, I misspelled it--it's Indochin.

Major Ramen craving

I totally understand what you're saying, as the bites I took that had some were certainly influenced by it. I think for me it's like cilantro (which I love) for some people. I just can't develop a taste for it. It's fun to know we were both there. I wonder if we could all wear Chowhound buttons? (Suppose not!)

Major Ramen craving

No, sorry. It was just a brief conversation when I was picking up banh mi a couple of weeks ago.

Major Ramen craving

I had pork ramen at United Noodle today. Broth was delicious, with coconut milk I believe, and Asian greens and bean sprouts complimented the barbecued pork. Noodles were delicious. My only issue was that it had pickled ginger as a garnish, and I really don't like pickled ginger. I'd love to hear others' opinions, as I don't consider myself an expert on ramen (except for the square packages that ar 4 for a dollar, and I gave them up a long time ago ;)

Breakfast places in Twin Cities

Bon Vie has the best eggs bennie I've had anywhere except my house. Magnolia's on the East Side of St. Paul had great traditional breakfasts.

Breakfast places in Twin Cities

I went to Copper Dome last weekend. It took at least 45 minutes to get mediocre eggs, decent bacon, bad coffee. Will never go back.

Wifey birthday dinner

Meritage in St. Paul. As I've always said, if it were a little less clean and allowed dogs, I'd think I was in Paris!
