Essential foods to fly home
pralines, a tarte a la bouille from rouses, river road coffee, konriko pecan rice
need boudin recommendations
Venture forth to Baton Rouge to Jerry Lee's on Greenwell Springs Road. The best in the region. Worth the drive.
Oyster/Seafood situation in New Orleans affected by oil spill?
I for one think we need to start ignoring the media and their drama rama about the spill. Enough already. Support Louisiana products, all Louisiana products and if it costs a little more so be it. We need to be more focused on keeping the money here. Chowhound Mods: Sorry if this isn't on point.
South Louisiana hot sauces
Crystal doesn't have the vinegary (sic) bite that Tabasco has. I love it.
Trip Report – Baton Rouge and New Orleans – Gems and Disappointments
Another can't miss pizza in Baton Rouge is the Big Ragoo from the Pastime.
Need ideas for New Orleans food gifts to bring back for co-workers
pralines are a must. File powder is an acquired taste. I wouldn't do that. There are lots of local preserves and Occhipinti olive salad mix is extraordinary.
Glorious Mess: My relatively un-traumatic wedding report
Feel like I'm getting to the pivotal point in a movie or good book - please when you can take a breath tell us more and the best of luck to you.
Baton Rouge - NOLA I-10 Road Food Recommendations
cafe des Amis is west of Baton Rouge heading towards Lafayette. Oak Alley on the River Road has a great restaurant. Hymels for seafood in convent. These are side trips. BR has tons of great restaurants - depends on price point and what you have in mind. Jubans is top tier.

Need a signature dessert! Can I steal yours?
Tarte a la bouille - it is a cajun custard pie. It is excellent. John Folse has one on his site. I make something similar to caramel matzoh crunch using graham crackers.
Foodies going to Houma/Thibodaux
For downhome seafood and pasta Politzs in Thibodaux. Not a great wine list but great softshell crab. Flanagans has a good steak also. If you are interested in plantation dining go to Oak Alley. We ate there on Easter and I had excellent crawfish stew over fried catfish and my boyfriend had red beans and rice and said it was excellent.
Visiting Gulf shores Alabama - Where to eat?
Louisiana Lagniappe and Grazie in Orange Beach. They are both excellent.

River Road drive from Baton Rouge to NOLA
Bocage was bought by a Texan and redone. Not sure if they are serving food. My hat is off to the Texan. We went to the auction and the home needed help. Sorry Chowhound mods for getting off topic.
River Road drive from Baton Rouge to NOLA
We ate at Oak Alley yesterday. It was excellent. I had crawfish stew over fried catfish and the salad with the house viniagrete. My boyfriend had the red beans and rice and said they were excellent also. Yum. Wish I would have saved room for the dessert. They brought out a tray but we were both too full. Bocage Plantation was recently restored. Not sure if they serve food yet.
Soft Shell Crab: Spring 2010
If you want to venture to Thibodaux - I had one of the best soft shell crabs I've ever eaten at a restaurant called Politz's. Excellent menu. Not much of a wine list.
Herb Garden for a Novice
try hydroponic gardening under lights. Check out the aerogardens or rig something up. Herbs need lots of sun and depending on what kind - different kinds of soil/water requirements. Good luck. I prefer highly aromatic ones - just personal preference.
Dufrene's Bakery - Golden Meadow and McKenzies
Does anyone remember Dufrenes Bakery In Golden Meadow and McKenzies?
Any idea where I could get the recipe for the small apple pies Dufrenes made and the wonderful little cupcake creations with a pecan and cherry on top from McKenzies. Those were two of my childhood favorites. Thanks.
A little help from my friends so that a princess may be entertained...
I second Snug Harbor. You will love it.
Trip to Grand Isle
Magnolia Cafe and Seven Sisters are both good in St. Francisville. Home cookin at Seven Sisters is hard to beat.
Trip to Grand Isle
There is also a restaurant called Flanagans in Thibodaux that has excellent steaks. You need to go to Rouses Supermarket and pick up a tarte a la bouille pie.
Branching out from New Orleans
Ma Mama's is great. I couldn't remember the name. Camilles has good seafood. I too loathe Satterfields. Joe's changed ownership again recently.
Branching out from New Orleans
Baton Rouge and surrounding area has many excellent restaurants - ranging from Joe's Dreyfus Store in Livonia to Jubans and Galatoires in Baton Rouge. You need to go down river road and see the plantations. The North shore has excellent restaurants also - La Provence, Trey Yuen, Nuvolaris, Sal & Judys. Hymels in Convent (between Baton Rouge and New Orleans) has excellent seafood. Enjoy your stay.
Road Trip The Second(Maybe the First)
In Baton Rouge Jerry Lee's on Greenwell Springs Road is worth the drive for beef jerky. Joes Dreyfus is good and also Camilles (the old Salter's Truck Stop) in Livonia. Camilles is rustic but great seafood.
Private Room in restaurant for potentailly disastrous wedding party
Good luck. Remember its ultimately about the two of you - not them. Savor the experience and tune the relatives out.
Ham hocks in Baton Rouge
Any grocery store - Hi Nabor, Calvins, Mathernes, even probably Walmart or Albertsons. They are not difficult to find
Heading to NO/ Baton Rouge for the LSU Gator Game looking for some local eats...
i agree 100 percent about the noise but Acme should be experienced once. Sammys is still around and Couyon's Barbeque is great. There is also an italian festival downtown. Traffic will be unbearable but that goes with the territory on game day.
Heading to NO/ Baton Rouge for the LSU Gator Game looking for some local eats...
Game day every place in BR will be a zoo. Parrains is also good. Same people as Chimes. Portobellos is excellent. Ruffinos. We are a restaurant driven town. Acme Oyster House will rock. Just be prepared to wait
Breakfast and Lunch stops between New Orleans and Natchez
Varnados is gone. Oxbow is still around. I did not like the Varnados people. We walked in and walked out and that was after I made reservations six weeks in advance. Personally i'm glad they are gone. I had such great expectations. Supposedly they are trying to open in Baton Rouge. If they do, BR is a tough restaurant town and will not suffer rude foolish servers.
