Suggestions for Dinner near the Waldorf
Will be staying at the Waldorf for a number of days and with the help of fellow posters already have scheduled lunches at the Bar at the Modern, Cafe Boulud and Ca Va (and a couple of business lunches that colleagues are taking care of). Have also scheduled dinners at La Grenouille, Ai Fiori, Peter Lugers and Per Se.
Looking for another dinner within walking distance of the Waldorf (not afraid of a healthy walk). Open to most suggestions (no Indian or sushi). Thanks for your help
Italian - signature dishes
Kathryn - thanks for your quick reply. My error on the Minetta Tavern - hd it on a list and typed it in without thinking. I see your name posted on here quite often and respect your opinion - any go to dishes at these restaurantstht you would recommend despite the fact tht they are not romantic.
Any other reco's for romantic Italian not on the list?
Thank you!
Italian - signature dishes
I know this topic has been covered extensively but maybe I can ask the question a bit differently.
Looking for a cozy, more romantic spot that also serves up Italian. I've noted the higher ends such as Babbo, Del Posto, Marea, Ai Fiori and Maialino as well as Locanda Verde, Osteria Morini, Scarpetta, Minetta Tavern and Crispo.
First question: Is there any one of these that you would stay away from for any reason?
Second question: what is the "go to" or signature dish/dishes that I should try at any of the noted restaurants.
Final question: for those that have either a tasting or pix fixe menu - should I do that or a la carte?
Thanks for any and all replies.
Rec for pre-theater Saturday matinee
Was looking for a pre-theater lunch/brunch place for a Saturday matinee (just for the wife and I - no significant food restrictions other than the wife does not like overly spicy things)). Have seen many of the posts and was looking for comments/suggestions between the following:
Bar Boulud, The Modern Bar Room, Ca Va and Nougatine (was also considering Glass House Tavern and Lattanzi).
Thanks for any and all suggestions/comments
Special Graduation Dinner
I know it's a bit early, but in the planning stages for my daughter's graduation from a university in the New Haven area in the spring of 2012. Will likely "test drive" a couple of the choices once we have it narrowed down.
Looking for a relaxed, fun evening at a venue that will accommodate and attend to a group of 10-14 people. Don't want to break the bank BUT want a place that has great food, ambience and service (understand that all that comes with a price tag). Open to cuisine ideas (although my daughter's preference is Italian).
Would prefer to be within a half hour drive of New Haven but will consider ideas a bit farther.
Thanks for any and all suggestions - appreciate your help!!
Paris - La Régalade - Saint Honoré
Great review JF - we were just there a week ago and also had a phenomenal meal. Question - has anyone tried to replicate the terrine served at Regalade Saint Honore. Would you be willing to share your recipe as I would love to try it at home (know it won't be the same - but can't fault me for trying). It was incredible and could have made an entire meal out of that along with the cornichons coupled with their bread, butter and a bottle of wine.
Help - Paris dining options
Just found out that I will be going on a last minute trip to Paris. Will be there for ~14/15 days - a mix of business and pleasure. While both my wife and I have traveled frequently in Europe going to Paris is a first for both of us (taking her along - even though this was not budgeted for). I typically spend weeks and months planning for a trip like this but have but a few days so I apologize in advance for my naivety. For reference - we will be staying in 6th at Hotel Le Senat and the 17th at Splendid Etoile - not that it should drive dining decisions as we typically are out and about.
I would like to choose 8 restaurants (about one a day) that we will plan on visiting during our stay - the balance of our meals we will leave to where our travels take us and leave open for some spontaneity. The number of options in Paris has me totally bewildered and would appreciate any comments, recommendations, those that should be eliminated, etc.
Not looking to break the bank :) but wanted to find a mixture of options (cafes/bistros/restaurants, etc).
So here is my list: La Regalade Saint Honore; La Rose de France; Les Bistrot des Compares; Les Papilles; Josephine/Ches Dumonet; Le Relais de l'Entrecote; Cafe Jade; Cafe de la Mairie; Le Florimond; La Petit Cler; Le Bouillon Chartier; Bistrot Paul Bert; Le Picquet and L'Ogre.
Thanks again for your comments - all will be greatly appreciated and taken in the spirit of making our stay more enjoyable - so fire away.
Clearwater / Tampa (Spring Training)
The wife and I are headed down to Clearwater for spring training. It's our first time in the area. Have read this board and am quite familiar with some of the recos: Frenchys (grouper); Lennys (breakfast); etc.
Have also read many of the recos on Tampa/Ybor city re the likes of Columbia and Teresitas and La Ideal for their Cubanos - so while I am not opposed to traveling down to Tampa / Ybor I was interested in knowing opinions about the Columbia located at Clearwater Beach and Ceviche right in Clearwater.
Also - any place for a good cubano more centrally located to clearwater (if you tell me that going to Tampa is the best - that's fine)
Finally good Italian and fresh fish recommendation in the Clearwater area - any Greek recos
Thanks for any help you can provide
Philly Restaurant week
Likely going two nights - have already made reservations at Amada for the one evening.
Looking for ideas/suggestions for the second evening. Thoughts?
Dinner Recommendation (Hofstra or back towards the Belt Prkway)
Will be visiting Hofstra University for a collegiate sporting event on Wednesday and would like to get recommendations on any local restaurant favorites (nothing extremely fancy - italian, seafood, etc). As we will be returning to Pennsylvania the same evening we would prefer a recommendation very close to the Hofstra campus or that would be on our route back home (Southern Prkway / Belt Prkway would even consider Brooklyn close to the Pkway) - Thanks for your help!!!
Recs in Moon Twshp area
Will be in the Robert Morris College (Moon Township) area this weekend and looking for some dinner recommendations close by (as opposed to in the city - which I have already seen throughout the board).
Dining near Hartford airport
Suggestions - nothing very formal? Driving through area and will be staying overnight close to the airport. Thanks for any and all suggestions
Self catering for Grad party
Having a graduation party in about a month. Looking for those hidden gems (delis, food markets, caterers, - etc.) that folks would recommend (preferably located in the western suburbs but will definitely travel also). I've used folks such as Luigi and Giovanni's in Newtown Square, The Lemon Tree, Robert Ryans and Forestas.
Looking for items such as salads, meat entree trays, antipasto and hors douerve trays, etc.
Thanks for any help!
Richmond VA help
Going to be in Richmond this coming weekend. Would like some suggestions for dining spots that are easily accessible to the Marriott near the convention center. Thanks for any help!
Omaha - Gorat's or Johnny's Cafe or...
I'm an East Coaster who was just in Omaha this past weekend for the College World Series. We visited Johnny's Cafe based on the comments on this board. Our visit had both high and low points. I'll touch on the low first: The atmosphere in the restaurant was a bit dingy but at the same time soemwhat interesting. The sides that came with our meal were rather forgettable: My son's baked potato was awful and my hash browns were okay.
Now for the high points: My son and I both ordered staeks - he had the Omaha strip and I had the filet. Both of us commented on how terrific they were prepared and how flavorful they were. Both steaks were phenomenal!! The mixed house salad that we had was large and very fresh and our chicken filets appetizer was juicy and tasty.
can't speak for Gorats but can tell you that we had a tremendous steak at Johnny's.
We also ate at Lo Sole Mio and M's Pub - both of which I would highly recommend.
Fairfield Dinner
Going to be in the Fairfield CT area on Sunday evening and looking for a good italian restaurant in the area. I've seen recommendations on Liana's and Seminara's. Any comments or other suggestions?
Ocean City Restaurants
Headed down to OC for a week. Haven't been there in a couple of years. Curious as to what recommendations there are for dining out (go ahead & include AC down to Avalon)
