25th Anniversary Dinner - Not Until December

It's a Tuesday. I think the plan would be to go after the show to avoid running crazy. Budget is not a consideration. My wife enjoys seafood, steak, Italian - she's pretty much a comfort food kind of person but is comforatable with these choices. Wine list is not a consideration - I'll be ordering by the glass. It's our 25th so it's an important occasion that we're pretty proud of - we'd like it to be pretty special.

Thanks

25th Anniversary Dinner - Not Until December

My wife and I will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary in December. Couple that with her 50th birthday 12 days before our anniversary and it calls for something special. We live in South Jersey - 10 minutes outside Philly. We've been just about everywhere we want to go there...nothing even remotely excites me in Atlantic City. So I'm thinking NYC for a dinner and a show possibly.

Problem is...I'm sure there are a million places I don't know about. Also - my wife is not the most adventurous eater. I am initially thinking Le Benardin as she is a big seafood lover and their menu is not intimidating at all.

So fire away - and thanks in advance for suggestions.

Recs for a large group

We are trying to set up a reservation for 18 people...a team building event for work. this is short notice - next Thursday. We have a reservation set at Ralph's just in case - but - I think I'd like to not go there. We have spoken to Budakan but with a group that size they make a fixed menu which I'm not thrilled with. Waiting on Table 31....

Anyone have any recs? In the city or South Jersey, and price doesn't matter.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Visiting Oak Brook from Philly - end of August

Is there anything worthwhile in Oak Brook? If not, I can take a train to Union Square to get downtown - I'm on a business expense account so it can't be too crazy.

Anything goes here

Thanks in advance!

Philly Airport

Looking for someplace close by the Philly Airport for a later dinner tomorrow night. Is there anything decent close by without coming back into the city? Phillies are in town so I'd prefer avoiding coming back. Thanks!

I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency SF Airport next week from Tuesday to Friday. Any recs for some moderate priced dinners - within walking distance if thats at all possible. No preference of food type...as long as it's good!

Thanks in advance.

Recommendations For Hartford?

Wil be in Hartford starting 4/26 until 4/30. Staying at the Sheraton and will be at The Hartford Building every day.

Any recommendations? Lunch? Dinner? Drinks?

Kunkel's?

Good point - but it is on the menu. I did a Google search and found a few instances where Peking and Suckling Duck seemed to be interchanged.

I also found one comical post that mentioned Suckling Duck and Grass Fed Trout.

In any case - the duck was excellent!

Kunkel's?

My family ate there last night. Ordered off the special Restaurant Week menu. All four of us had the Maryland Crab SOup and all four agreed it was excellent. We ordered 3 Ceasar Salads and one Garden Salad. All of these again were very fresh. For entrees, 2 had the Roasted Suckling Duck, on had the Marinated Top Sirloin, and one had the Sun Dried Tomato Crusted Wahoo. All were superb. Desserts - 2 Lavendar Creme Brulee and 2 Rasberry Sorbert.

We had been there probably 3 or 4 times from when they first opened. The food was always above average but the service was an issue. They've worked that all out now. The place was packed last night and although hectic, things were moving. And the food was still above average which says alot.

Tuesdays are Pasta Night, Raw Bar Wednesdays, and Thursdays they have live jazz.

If you haven't tried Kunkel's, I'd highly recommend it.

decent seafood in south jersey

Check out Ritz Seafood on Rt 561 in Voorhees. A Little Tuna in Haddonfield used to be good - haven't been there in a while. Max's in Gloucester is worth a visit too.

Bonefish Grill [moved from Mid Atlantic board]

Ate at the Bonefish in Deptford Saturday night. Previously, we had eaten at one in Sterling, VA about 5 years ago and that one was pretty good. Deptford is a different story.

Here's what I think I dislike. Everything on the menu is pre-prepared. Typical chain. My wife could not order grilled tilefish, but could order tilefish picatta. ??? Apps we had calamari and ahi tuna sashimi. Tuna was ok - calamri was like fried rubber bands. Entrees were tilefish picatta and grouper thermdor. Both OK. Desserts were bananas foster and creme brulee. Again both OK - nothing spectacular. And 2 cups of the absolute strongest coffee I have ever had - and I like a stout cup of coffee.

No need to head back.

Barclay Prime - A big disappointment!

My wife and I dined at Barlclay Prime Friday the 29th. We had a wonderul meal - but I will agree the place is LOUD. At one point, some old disco song was playing and a small group of guys started doing the "OOOOO!!! OOOOO!!!!" with the song. The tables aroud us and the waiter just laughed. We thought the couch type chairs we pretty comfortable, although my wife is short and said they were a little challenging at times for her.

As for the food - started out with a Sapphire martini - perfect. Onion rolls were very nice. For appetizers we have the Kobe Sliders and the Crab Cocktail. The Kobe Sliders were OK - we were glad to have tried them but wouldn't get them again. Crab Cocktail was very good. For entrees, my wife had the butter poached lobster which was absolutely incredible. I had the rib eye - cooked perfectly at medium rare - great flavor, tender, best steak I've had in the city so far. Had the carmelized onions and potatoes as a side, and I also ordered the bernaise sauce. Both were very good, although I could have used a little more of the sauce. Two glasses of Avalon Cabernet with dinner. Expensive but very nice. For dessert, coffee and cappucino along with 2 milk chocolate creme brulees (with a special note from the chef congradulating us on our 21st anniversary - a nice touch). Finished the night with a glass of port.

Final bill - $276 plus a generous tip. Thats a healthy check, but it was a great meal. We both agreed we would return.

Alphabet Soup in Audubon?

4 of us went about a month ago. The only gripe I had was there were only 5 entrees on the menu. Everything was prepared perfect, but if you don't like Salmon, Cod, Chicken, Veal or Lamb you were out of luck.

Give it a try - it hasnt had a bad review yet.

Anniversary Dinner

It's that time of year again. The wife and I will celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary Dec. 28. Last year we went to Striped Bass and had a wonderful meal. Looking for some suggestions for this year. Here's the caveat...we couldn't be more different when it comes to eating out. For special occasions, I like to try some place new. I'm adventurous when it comes to ordering. My wife on the other hand is a bit more conservative. So...where can we go that would satisfy my adventurous side, her conservative side, but still have that special night out? Can be BYOB. Currently, those on my list are Vetri, Sovalo, Matyson, Gayle. Also anything but French - for whatever reason that is not an option with her. Thanks in advance....

Alphabet Soup

Four of us went Friday night to this new restaurant in on the corner of Atlantic Ave and Merchant Street in Audubon. There's alot of good and only a little bad. First, the room is decorated very tastefully. The service is excellent. The food was fantastic. But....only 5 entress to choose from, so if you don't like Salmon, Cod, Veal, Lamb or Chicken you're out of luck. They said they had a NY Strip Steak special but had sold out - guess they had a half dozen of them because it wasn't that crowded at all. Oh...and parking can be a bit of a problem too. But all in all, it's a very very nice meal and I hope they succeed.
