Miss Shirley's - worth it?

+1 on the fried green tomatoes, shrimp & grits, etc. AmyMarie1 is right on.

Looking for great seafood in Annapolis....Any recommendations??

Oh yeah! Super +1 on Ken's. Reminds me that we need to go before the season's over.

Station 4 (Near Arena Stage)

Went before the rain delayed ballgame on Friday. As mentioned, atmosphere very nice. Server was sort of clueless, but attentive. Burger was excellent! Duck Fat Fries, crisp but somewhat under-seasoned. Would definitely return! Excellent Happy Hour from 3:30 - 6pm. Half off bar menu and reduced prices on drinks.

Outdoor Dining or Outdoor Waterfront Dining in DC/Baltimore/Annapolis/or coastline near the major cities?

+1 on Hemingway's!

Restaurant Advice Needed?

Try The Colonnade, or Mary Mac's Tea Room.

Does anyone know of any Asian Market near Annapolis? Looking for a Super H type, but know that I have to go to Baltimore or DC for one. Any recommendations?

Don't bother with Honey Pig, especially if you have to drive. They're pretty rude and it's not as 'authentic' seemingly.

Brunch in the Annapolis Area?

+1 on The Boatyard. Casual, good food...no buffet or set menu, just regular menu. You'll enjoy it.

DESPERATE! Need Restaurant for Dad's 70th B-day near Winward Pkwy / Alpharetta / Mall of GA

I can promise you Eugene is more like a 45 minute drive. At that time, anything Perimeter or inside is at least 30 minutes.

There's a good steakhouse on Windward Parkway and GA400 called Cabernet. For Italian, Trattoria One-41 is excellent.

Good luck.

Inn at Easton

I very much disagree...We had a fabulous meal there recently. Also, The Washington Post gave it a very favorable review. The small bar there would also not be my first choice for seating IMHO. Jordan brings a great resume' to the Eastern Shore. Apparently they're doing quite well.

Kevin, I would give it a try for sure.

Best Fried Chicken in Atlanta

Word of caution....they pour honey all over the top, ruining the bird IMHO.

Annapolis and Baltimore dining questions

For Annapolis, try O'Leary's...best seafood. Upscale and very nice. You may also want to check out Level. This is a relatively new 'small plates' place with a great vibe and excellent food. Don't do the crab picking thing in Annapolis, you'll be bummed. You mentioned no Italian, but Osteria 177 is great...right on Main Street.

For a great lunch place try The Boatyard in Eastport. All of this is walkable from downtown.

Best crabcakes in Annapolis?

Absolutely confirm the Ken's crabcake. One of the best, if not the best in the area. Also like the take home one's from Annapolis Seafood. Killer good.

Best Fried Chicken in Atlanta

Unfortunately, Son's place is closed. They had the best pan-fried chicken (although I've never been lucky enough to get to Watershed on Tuesday). Mary Mac, Colonnade, etc, is all deep fried.

Best Fried Chicken in Atlanta

The Busy Bee Cafe has rockin' chicken, and all the others are good too.

Looking for good sushi restaurant in Annapolis, Maryland

I've tried all the suggestions here. I agree Joss has disappointed somewhat recently. Tsunami is indeed overpriced, as is Real Seafood, but both are nice places with better atmosphere...I guess that's the premium. I have been to Nano a couple of times and very much enjoyed it. Better portions than Joss it seems and not nearly the madhouse on a busy night.

My two cents.

Tosca Ristorante or other suggestions?

I concur with the choice of Tosca. Seems to meet all the criteria you set out...

The Bartlett Pear Inn - New Restaurant and B&B in Easton

Was surprised by my wife for my birthday and spent a lovely overnight at The Bartlett Pear Inn in historic Easton, MD. They apparently only been open about 5-6 weeks. The Inn is truly lovely, 7 rooms (I think) each with their own unique character and charm. Lovely furnishings, soothing color scheme, terrific products in the bath, soft towels and robes...and the bed! Comfort at it's best.

We had also reserved a table at the restaurant below. We were seated in a quaint little alcove with a table for two looking out on the garden. We chose the tastings menu - 5 courses for $55 - turned out to be a great value.

First course for me was the country pate served with coarse mustard and a tasty crouton. Wifey had a jumbo lump crab salad on beautiful bibb lettuce, very finely dressed. Both were awesome.

Second course was a beautiful bowl of very plum mussels in a saffron-dijon cream sauce. The flavors of the sauce were very balanced and did not overcome the mussels, unlike so many cream and garlic concoctions.

Third was a truffle butter glazed house-made pappardelle pasta with miatake mushroom. My absolute favorite of the night. I could have eaten multiple bowls of this. The fresh pasta, cooked perfectly aldente and a not overwhelming truffle butter. Simple and fabulous.

Next we had a zucchini crusted salmon, perfectly medium-rare. The zucchini were presented like scales on the fish. Beautiful presentation. The caramelized onion and tomato confit that was the accompaniment was really yummy and a great match with the fish.

Dessert was a cheese course with figs for the lady, and I had an interesting meringue and sorbet combination.

All in all a truly great experience, and, I think, a great addition to the Easton B&B and dining scene.

Austin Grill - Annapolis

First of all, let me say that I'm hard to please with any kind of Mexican/TexMex, being born and raised in San Antonio, but I still need to get a fix every now and then, even if I know it will be disappointing.

That said, I wandered in to Austin Grill about 12:45. It's a large place, attached to the Annapolis Mall. I'm guessing room for about 150 people or so...I was one of 7 that I saw. Not good.

A fellow looked at me seat myself - as there was no one around - he then disappeared. For about 5 minutes I looked around and even asked another table if anyone was working. I got up, went to the front (mall entrance) saw a waitperson and asked. She replied that yes, someone was working the bar area. I got my own menu and went to sit back down. Another 5 minutes passed before the fellow who I first saw, came to the table. I was ready, and hungry. I ordered a cup of Queso and Tacos al Carbon. Fair enough

Chips and salsa with drink arrived straight away, queso shortly after. It was pretty much Velveeta with RoTel tomato. Chips were excellent though. Tacos came along shortly. Black beans and rice had zero flavor. The two tacos were pretty good, but the whole meal for $22, including a 20% tip was not a good value at all.

Won't be making another visit any time soon.

Metro Silver Diner - Annapolis

Was in Parole the other day about lunchtime and thought I would try the Metro Silver Diner in the new Parole Town Center.

Fast Casual concept where you order from a kiosk computer or from the cashier, get a number and your food is delivered. There was a long line at the cashier but the two terminals were empty, so of course being the computer savvy person that I am, used the terminal. Fast, efficient, good to go.

I ordered the Angus sliders with the house-made potato chips. All in all it was OK. The meat was, of course, pretty well done. The sliders were a bit dry, and for 7.99, I thought the patty size could have been slightly improved. Chips were great.

All in all an acceptable experience, but I wouldn't go out of my way. If you're not dieting, the shakes/malts, looked very good.

Cupcakes?

Well, not really Baltimore, but if you're ever in Annapolis, Nostalgia Cupcakes on Main Street is FAB! Really creative concoctions.

Twisted Root - Richardson

From out of town and was taken there last night. I can only say that the place is OK. It would be better if they allowed you to order your meat other than Med-Well. Pickles on the burger would be a good touch too. The onion straws were actually the best thing about the meal, although the portion was a bit skimpy.

Best Burger in Los Angeles

My God, I ate at the famous Apple Pan today - had one of each for their 'famous' burgers'. For the life of me, how can you call this a great burger? They were SWEET. Properly cooked, but certainly not worth eating again.

Not to be missed in San Antonio

OK, hole in the wall Tex-Mex the ORIGINAL Blance Cafe...not the one north but the one on Blanco Rd, just south of Hilderbrand. In a former Rexall Drug Store. BYOB.

Mi Tierra in the tourist are is OK too, it's very famous and a huge place...if you're not really game to venture away from downtown.

Farm Fresh Eggs

OK, relatively new to the area...live in Annapolis. Where can I find 'farm fresh eggs'...within reasonable driving distance. I mean like out of the hen this morning. Any reference would be graciously and humbly appreciated.

One night - best bet near M St. & New Hampshire

We have one night in Georgetown and are looking for recommendations. Not super expensive - we prefer to eat at the bar. Wifey is seafood/veg only, so that needs to be considered.

Your advice is greatly appreciated. Review to follow.

Asian BBQ and Roast Meats

Is there anywhere in the area you can buy roasted Chinese duck, 5-spice pork, etc.? Went to H Mart in Catonville hoping to find some. The Super H Mart in the Atlanta area had it so I was sorely disappointed.

I live in Annapolis so would have to drive anyway, so anywhere in the metro area is OK.

Pesce Grande annapolis

Having moved to Annapolis several months ago, we're in process of trying new places. While most places have varying reviews, for whatever reason we decided to try Pesce Grande. I wish I had my money back.

Now, I don't care about the schizophrenic atmosphere of sports bar/Italian restaurant, but there was simply NO value in this meal, other than the wine. Started with a shared 'piccolo' version of the Caprese salad. Piccolo was an understatement. 2 1/2 slices of storebought mozzarella on about 3 oz of iceberg lettuce and 3 slices (crosswise) of a roma tomato...for NINE DOLLARS! A medium pizza of 4 cheese that was bread for all but about 6" inside - for $18 dollars, and 2 small plates of pasta, one seafood, one a version of Veal Saltimbocca for $14 each. They should be ashamed of themselves. $100 with tip for what were appetizer portions of not even tasty food.

I swear, I cannot imagine how the reviews I read about this place were in any respect favorable. I can promise one thing...NEVER again, even for a beer.

Best Detroit-type Coney Dog in B'more?

Serious Eats has some info on the "Midwest Style"

From Detroit to Tulsa, Coneys are a favorite: small-sized, all-beef natural casing dogs served in steamed buns and topped with minced meat chili, mustard, and chopped onions (order the "loaded" and you'll get shredded cheddar, too). Depending on where you are in the Midwest though, they can come big or small, grilled or steamed, with "coney sauce" that ranges from the drier side to the wet."
