DR. HOGLY WOGLY FAVS
Beef ribs, beef ribs, beef ribs. The best in town (not every single time, but most times). And the best item on their menu by far.
Coming to LA from ITALY need Restaurant Recommendations: Steakhouses,Burgers and SUSHI
Perfect 3 from mc michael
Though you gotta go to In N Out Burger, also.
Great steak in LA - but not quite Cut, etc
Lucques. Steak for 2. Served with mashed potatoes. Best best. Had it a couple of months ago, sublime as ever.

Griddle at 7 on weekends would be key!
Best French Toast in LA
On the right day, Griddle is absolutely the archetypal perfect French toast -- so whoever said perfect above, kinda had the right word. Almost gooey on the inside from egg -- that's right!
CUT at Four Seasons/Beverly Wilshire
Cut rules. You're staying at the hotel, I say go to the bar side of Cut whenever the spirit moves and eat some amazing steak in a more casual (though no less expensive) vibe. I say stick to the 35 day aged NY -- you will not be disappointed.
Sona: R.i.P.
But will they reopen elsewhere as per this:

Anyone been to LudoBites at Gram & Papa's so far?
Funny thread. 2 points: One is that I consider Ludo a bit of a mad genius, he is consciously and intentionally experimenting, and when a dish hits it's so thrilling because it's not just a rehash of what everyone else is doing. I've had more fun at his pop-ups than with any other dining experiences in the last few years. My wife and I went a few times (granted only to breadbar) and were totally high from the experience. Ate great food, met cool people, chatted extensively with chef and his wife (not because we knew them previously, we did not), and drank stellar wine which we were able to bring ourselves. Point 2: I got into ludo bites at least a couple of times by just showing up a bit before 6 o'clock. That was my very easy way of dealing with supposed reservation nightmare. Oh, and I never went and didn't get in.
Maybe everything's so completely different at 4.0 that none of this applies, but I kinda doubt it.
Most interesting food in LA... In town one night
Sneak into ludobites early as a walk-in. Most likely you will get lucky. Your first instinct here is the best. Casual and genius and fun -- and romantic as a result. If it doesn't work out, have made a reservation elsewhere.
Best BBQ Ribs in LA in the style of Twin Anchors (Chicago)?
BTW, the BEEF rib at Baby Blue (they don't always have it, call ahead) is pretty delicious meat jello!
best bakery for carrot cake
Buttercake is delicious, more like a banana bread shape "loaf" with cream cheese frosting. Coral Tree Cafe good one. Amazing one at Tavern, very Farmer's Market, 3 kinds of carrots, not overly sweet.

Honey Kettle fried chicken for your lizard-brain
Totally! I like the breast, which is amazing because usually I only care about the dark meat, but the breast is super moist and tasty. I break off pieces and eat it on a piece of biscuit with cole slaw. I think a breast and a biscuit and a side of slaw is under 5 bucks, too.
I'm Drawing a Blank -- want great upscale in SM or Venice for tonight!
Pisoni wine dinner at Tavern tonight. Hundred bucks a head -- kind of a steal. Like 6 wines. Good wine. Gary Pisoni will be there.
Westside Burgers-Counter, Hole in the Wall, Father's Office Tavern, What Else?
It gets no love on this board, and it's not super cheap, but Grande Orange has some awesome burgers, especially the green chili burger. And although Apple Pan has no turkey or veggie they have a nice tuna sandwich and their burger still rules, as far as I'm concerned (was thrilled to see it on J Gold's 99 dishes list, though I would have gone fore the steak burger not the hickory.)
Blue Plate Oysterette - Whole Belly Fried Clams
Perhaps there's no such thing as an inexpensive bad meal, but expensive good meals abound.
Blue Plate Oysterette opening on Ocean Ave. In Santa Monica next month.
The lobster mac and cheese is undeniably awesome
Cut? BLT?Craft? Or...?
Yes, the pretzel bread rules. I eat it AFTER my steak. I've had several amazing veggie sides. And I guess try some kobe if you've got $$ to spare, but the 35 day aged NY is my fave, the best steak in town for my $$.
Chili with Beans?
Second Tubs, I like the turkey best, really good, made with beans I forget what kind ...
I love langer's pastrami but i have trouble thinking of the restaurant as an "ultimate" RESTAURANT...
This year especially, going to a restaurant because you knew you wanted to eat a particular dish was WAY more relevant than going to a restaurant for some wholistically great experience. I think the way the survey ended up reflected that pretty nicely, a sign of the times.
I love langer's pastrami but i have trouble thinking of the restaurant as an "ultimate" RESTAURANT...
well said, dommy
Cut. Am I being unfair?
Yeah, not so cool. That said, glad you brought up Cut since it's been under-represented in recent Chowhound conversations about steaks and about the best restaurants. Cut is super pricey but so far beyond any other steak in town it's almost ridiculous. Went on a bit of a steak jag recently with a friend who could do most of the paying. We hit Mastro's, Wolfgang's and Cut in about ten days. No contest!!!!
I love langer's pastrami but i have trouble thinking of the restaurant as an "ultimate" RESTAURANT...
At the very least, Pizzeria Mozza, Umami Burger, Father’s Office, Mastro's and Phillippe's are on the list for essentially one thing. And arguably some of the others, too. Not sure it's an issue, therefore.
