Where to buy frozen crawfish tails in the San Jose area?

Thanks Alan.I just want the cleaned tails because of the amount of crawdads I need for my recipe. If I was going to go with whole ones I would buy live ones and cook them so they would be fresher, however I don't want to go through that amount of cleaning.I would probably just eat them all as I went along anyway!LOL

Where to buy frozen crawfish tails in the San Jose area?

Have a yen to make Etoufee.Has anyone sighted frozen crawfish tails in the San Jose area?I have called all the Asian seafood markets,Ranch 99,Wholefoods and Trader Joe's.No one carries them. Not interested in buying the live ones that ARE available and cleaning that amount of tails. Thanks for any suggestions.

Recipes You've Never Heard of Outside Your Family

My Italian Mom made this all the time and still does at age 96,however added marinara tomato sauce.Piselli e Pasta.Great quick comfort food!

San Rafael: Brazil Marin – Enjoying a caipirinha, feijoada, knockout cheese bread and live music on a sunny plaza … and when she eats there, each time she eats there, she goes "a-a-ah!”

Brasil...if you really wanted to feel the local Brasilian cafe experience.Especialmente pra Copa di Mundo!

Wild caught head on shrimp

I bought Spot Prawns two weeks ago at Whole Foods in Los Gatos. They were great, sweet and full of roe. They didn't have them yesterday however was told by a fish monger that WFs will order them for you.

Any razor/bamboo clam sightings in the Bay Area in restaurants or markets?

Dopo in Oakland and Corso in Berkeley serve them from time to time. You just have to keep checking their daily menus.

Oh Please, Pretty Please, Din Tai Fung—PLEASE Come to SF!

XLB ARE Shanghainese.DTF just happens to have started in Taiwan and does a very delicate and delicious thin skinned slightly different type of soup dumpling.Have never seen any as refined in the Bay Area,no matter where. It appears the China location's dumplings are superior to their North American locations.

Oh Please, Pretty Please, Din Tai Fung—PLEASE Come to SF!

They both have many different dishes, however the XLB(soup dumplings) is a common one, though executed differently.Actually having branches in Shanghai,Beijing,Singapore and other parts of the world,Din Tai Fung is a chain from Taiwan, not Shanghai.

To-go food for a flight [San Francisco]

Again, glad Andale met your expectations and you had a good morning meal. They have a sit down restaurant and a take out location in Los Gatos.Just not the cuisine I prefer over so many great mexican restaurants in the Bay Area.Even at the airport,I prefer not to eat there.

To-go food for a flight [San Francisco]

Glad you found a good breakfast option that worked for you.Not being an egg eater, that breakfast menu doesn't work for me at all, though I usually travel on a red eye flight. Not a fan of Andale,a generic chain in Los Gatos, one location in SF Centre and various Bay Area airport locations.Cheap ingredients and inauthentic recipes.I suppose for food on the fly it's better than what you're not going to get on the airplane!

When do you use leeks?

Sauté leeks in butter after cleaning well, until soft.Season with salt ,fresh cracked pepper, dash of sugar and Cajun seasoning.Add half and half,a bit of butter and simmer until thickened.Use under seared fish or scallops.Drizzle balsamic vinegar and honey that's been lightly boiled around it.Delish!

To-go food for a flight [San Francisco]

Ha Ha and poison United is!Thank God the new terminal E wing is opening this month with more food and comfort options to that so outdated terminal.I do like the 1/2 doz oysters and the prawn, dungeness crab, oyster combo at Yankee Pier also,on return to the airport, however very over priced.

To-go food for a flight [San Francisco]

The suggestions are good for the neighborhood you will be in.In case your appointment runs late and you need to get to the airport quicker to clear security,I suggest the Dungeness crab/shrimp quesadilla at Buena Vista Cafe in Terminal 3.Makes for great inflight food that is not a sandwich. Also like the clam chowder from Gordon Biersch Brewery also in Terminal 3 because it doesn't contain bacon.

Long layover in Newark (EWR) - go to Ironbound or eat in the airport

Only meat sauce is cooked for a length of time.Marinara is a 15-20 minute process to retain the lightness of tomatoes ,spices and herbs.

Long layover in Newark (EWR) - go to Ironbound or eat in the airport

Much worst than Gallaghers. Not at all connected with the original Grand Central Oyster Bar in ingredients, finesse or service.Gallaghers is an airport restaurant however though pricey has fabulous jumbo lump crab cakes wcreolo mustard sauce and great creamed spinach,as I mentioned to you on the SF board.I have done a dragnet for the tastiest food out of EWR as I work out of there. It's an airport if you have no other options, not a dining destination. The only other tasty thing is the freshly prepared custom to order rolls and nigiri that you can ask the tiny Japanese lady to prepare for you at the place next to Gallaghers. That is why I also suggested to you Mompou,Sagres and Seabras Marisqueira in Ironbound and how to get there on the 62 bus from EWR.You must be in TLV by now enjoying falafel,St Peter's fish and fresh squeezed pomegranate juice.BTW for future reference,as an Italian,Laico's menu is tired, heavy and nothing like the refined food my grandmother or mother prepared.Everthing is subjectve.IMHO Valenca in Elizabeth does not have good Spanish/Portuguese food and Golden State Diner sucks.Smash burger is better.

SFO - Terminal 3 - any recs for a carryon breakfast?

In Ironbound suggest Mompou on Ferry Street or Sagres around the corner from it or Seabras Marisqueira.62 bus from EWR will get you there and back for $1.50 through Penn Station Newark with a three block walk.At SFO,since I'm not a breakfast fan,my favorite is the shrimp/ dungeness crab quesadilla at Buena Vista Cafe in term 3 or the chicken noodle soup at Harbor Village in the Intl terminal w/ some ebi fry and Japanese potato salad from Ebusa nearby. In EWR Gallaghers crab cakes and creamed spinach is the best meal in Term C that you will fly out of to TLV.You have plenty of time to go to the Ironbound with your late departure.I work the flights to TLV.It appears with asking for breakfast out of SFO you are on the late night rather than afternoon departure to TLV.

Oh Please, Pretty Please, Din Tai Fung—PLEASE Come to SF!

Love that thought!Have never had Bay Area dumplings that delicate! Also love that the DTF rep when explaining the 18 fold dumpling technique said that less then would be soggy and more than would not taste good.Perfect dumplings! For me Yank Sing in SF and Shanghai Restaurant in Oakland, don't even compare.

Oh Please, Pretty Please, Din Tai Fung—PLEASE Come to SF!

The Asia menu and ingredients is totally different than the US menu.

Oh Please, Pretty Please, Din Tai Fung—PLEASE Come to SF!

I couldn't second that emotion more!Ate at the Din Tai Fung,Yu Garden Branch,in Shanghai this past October.I have always wanted to try XLB however don't eat pork.Their shrimp and vegetable versions were delectable with delicate thin skins and bursting soup, made to order.Love that you can watch the chefs hand making the dumplings through their glassed in dumpling station. They also have a double boiled chicken soup made with the prized black chicken.Delicious, clean, great service and trendy ambience.Just watched a TV show featuring the mother location in Taipei,Taiwan.I would love a Bay Area location.Read while in Shanghai that the next US opening will be in Costa Mesa CA.

Michelin-recommended Chinese & Japanese restaurants in SF Bay Area

Ate at Hakkasan in Mumbai/Bombay.Awful and overpriced, especially for India, where Chinjabi or Chindian is my favorite Chinese fusion food. Sent back two of five dishes.Having not eaten there, hope SF location is better!

Where can I buy ginger beer in bulk?

BevMo,Minto Jamaican Market,Kingston 11 and Suya African Grill and all in Oakland, would probably sell in bulk.Sweet Fingers in San Leandro is another possibility.Minto also sells bulk boxes of fifty frozen beef, chicken or veg patties for parties.

dinner - ez for marinites, oaklanders

"I thought doesn't the petrale sole brine his/her whole life?"LOL!Love this 510jeff!Also like this dry brine salted cooking technique that the chef at Zuni Cafe in SF uses for her renowned chicken, also pork chops, roasts, burgers and vegetables:

Mariscos La Costa: What are the actual hours? [Oakland]

I've been there many times and they've always stuck pretty close to those hours. If you're coming near closing hours, probably a good Idea to call first.Really enjoy it in the afternoon when the sun is out, families enjoying and off the radar you can bring an adult beverage(your risk).Due to the high turnover, very fresh ceviche, coctel de mariscos and though a bit large, $1 oysters.Reasonable prices and congenial service.

Mariscos La Costa: What are the actual hours? [Oakland]

They close at 7pm and 6pm on Sundays.

Feast of the Seven Fishes

Besides it's SF location,A16 in Oakland will also be serving the Christmas Eve Feast of the Seven Fishes.

Daniel's Jamaican food stand in Berkeley

Daniel,a long time friend and Trini chef has also been a long time fixture at the Ashby Flea Market. He had a Sacramento St restaurant location for a short time. His curry shrimp/potato, split pea filled roti and other offerings are da bomb!Go Dere!
P.S.Trinidadian,not Jamaican.

Mexican en route from Oakland to Carmel

Not a fan of Andale.Feel it is very average fare.Would not consider that in the posters request for"...looking for a delicious Mexican lunch".As not from the greater San Jose area,I wish had a better suggestion.

Mixed Mushroom Casserole

Sounds great, however please don't refer to this as a vegetarian dish if it has an egg in it.Can be made without the egg(liquid chicken).

Hakkasan to open in SF at One Kearny

Did not care for the food at Hakkasan's Bombay location.Food was very pricey and not tasty. There is fabulous Chinese,Chindian and Chinjabi food in India with great ingredients available.Sent a dish back at Hakkasan and didn't understand why the quality of food was poor.Haven't tried the original in London yet.Having much hope for the SF location as at those prices it will have to be fantastic.
