Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Recipes

What's your favorite turkey curry? I'm thinking of trying to replicate a Thai yellow curry this year - but I hear that turkey usually goes better with green curries. Any thoughts?

Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Recipes

Oh, I never would ever have come up with that first recipe! That sounds decadent. Thanks for posting it. Yum!

Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Recipes

Mmm! That sounds so good! Do you just make it like a regular stroganoff, subbing turkey for meatballs?

What's turkey divan?

What's gross about it? Does he leave the carcass in?

Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Recipes

Okay, everyone has their day-after-Thanksgiving sandwiches - that's just standard...

But what are some of your favorite leftover turkey recipes?

Jersey Mike's Subs - Bev Hills

The location in Burbank is the one that I frequent. I like having freshly cut meat better than what they have at Subway.

Polka Restaurant -- Eagle Rock

I think the decor just plays upon the way that Polish people decorate. Adam said he felt like he walked into his grandmother's house.

As for the pierogi, the dough is supposed to be heavier and not wanton-like, so it was appropriate. They talked about it when they were featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives.

Every time I go there, I've noticed that there's a different soup, salad, and dessert. Sometimes the desert is jello, sometimes it's pudding, sometimes it's cake... but no matter what, it's always good! Same is true of the soup.

But the best part of Polka to me is the family who runs it. They actually make everything! Every time I'm there, I see their little girl too. She's adorable and so sweet.

Polka Restaurant -- Eagle Rock

My boyfriend is both Polish AND from Chicago, and this is, by far, his favorite restaurant in town. :)

New to LA (Burbank), some specific questions (Long)

Another girl from the south! I moved here from Memphis, TN about 3 years ago, so I've looked for EXACTLY the things you're looking for. I also live close to downtown Burbank.

1.) Good pulled pork BBQ -- Haven't found any nearby. There are a few places in the OC that are great, and one place that's in Compton that's run by a relative of the Neely's, but I seriously have my granddaddy send me Corky's in the mail. :) There's one place in Pasadena, over on Fair Oaks called "Barn Burner" that has good pulled pork, but I don't like their sauce or slaw. Their fries are good.

DO NOT GO TO PECOS BILLS. I don't care what anyone tells you, their pulled pork sandwiches are *revolting*. I had such high hopes for them and it was like cat spitup on a bun. I actually cried for being homesick that day.

2.) Best Mexican near us that will feel right coming from the south and not be gross like the place at Alameda and San Fernando - Casa De Ramos over on Glenoaks in Glendale. Good chicken tacos, good fajitas, AMAZINGLY good All Chile Verde burritos (amazing pork, really). The carnitas there are solid too. The only thing I haven't liked there has been their guacamole. It's definitely good food. Adam and I are also poor (I'm in law school), and we'll often split the all chile verde burrito and be stuffed. Sometimes we'll order 1 a la carte chicken soft taco on a flour tortilla to go with it and split it into 2 tacos (they give you 2 tortillas out here for some reason) - and our entire dinner ends up costing us $12 after tax.

3.) You'll never find a Cracker Barrel in CA. It's sad. Very, very sad - but it has to do with the decor of the place and the earthquake-proofing laws in this state. I think that this city is SORELY LACKING in the soul-food dept. Every Sunday morning, however, there is a little glimmer of the South in Burbank at a restaurant called the Tallyrand. It's over on Olive and Reese. Adam and I go there almost every sunday morning to get their Biscuits and Gravy -- and this is the ONLY place in town that I've found that has amazing biscuits and REAL white country gravy that they make themselves. Best part is, Biscuits, gravy, and sausage is only $5.99 compared to most of their other breakfasts which are closer to $9.

I'm sure someone's already told you about Roscoe's Fried Chicken & Waffles. They're ok. Nothin to write home about, but they have good sweet tea and they have good macaroni and cheese.

What kills me is that there's no Chic-fil-a here. I don't understand it. We always stop to get some on the way to and from Vegas. (Where my parents moved) I think they have a Chic-fil-a in Long Beach too. Why they're not out here is beyond me. They would make a killing.

My vacation when I was growing up was to Gulf Shores, and one of my best friends went to college in Birmingham, so I understand exactly where you're coming from. :) If you and your husband are looking to make friends out here too, Adam and I would be happy to meet you for a meal. Maybe at Casa de Ramos? :)

What do you think of Rachael Ray's picks?

I am such a fan of Aroma during the weekdays when they're not busy. Very yummy sandwiches. Very yummy cakes. The rest of them... *shrug* Canter's is good, but nothing to write home about except seeing D-list celebrities every time I'm there. I prefer Billy's in Glendale as far as delis go. El Cholo's kinda foul. eat is overpriced. Sweet Lady Jane doesn't suck, but it's not on my top recommendations list. Haven't eaten at the rest of them.

ISO Butter Lamb...

You are my hero! :) Thank you! :)

Graduation Dinner Suggestions

My parents want me to pick a place too! Congrats on graduation. What date are you graduating? I'm done on May 18th at Southwestern.

Have you considered Columbo's for steaks?

http://www.colombosrestaurant.net/menu.html

It's right in your price range and it's crazy delicious. I know it's in Eagle Rock, though. I think for the yummy-to-cost factor, it's worth the drive, though.

i hate to ask for recommendations but im a bit lost (nyc hound)

Do you have many good Ethiopian restaurants in NYC? Nyala and Messob are both great and around that price range. Nyala is larger and more "hip" and Messob (which is across the street) is more intimate and has better house Honey Wine.

ISO Butter Lamb...

So there's this Polish Catholic tradition of having a lamb that is made of butter on the Easter table.

I'm trying to find one of these in Los Angeles for an Easter surprise for my boyfriend. In Chicago, you can find these everywhere. I haven't seen any in LA. Are there any Polish deli's or butchers around here? I'm sure they'd have them there.

Any help you can offer is much appreciated!

Jamaican Meat Pies in LA?

I love patties, and I would have never thought to have posted about them! Thanks for asking the question.

the right dinner out in pasadena/glendale

It's a little on the nose, but have you thought about Koo Koo Roo or Boston Market? It's not like "omgz the best food evar" but it's good anyway and there are choices for your husband.

New Dim Sum Restaurant Opening Friday in Chinatown

Yeah - I went there hoping to get dim sum today as well. I was extremely disappointed to see that they consider 6 appetizers "Dim Sum" - I feel like they're falsely advertising on their sign outside. My friend and I headed over to Empress Pavillion, though and had a great dim sum lunch for under $20.

Soup for a sickie

All of the Pho Ga (Chicken Pho) that I've had is a chicken broth.

NEW TO BURBANK, SEEKING STAPLE EATERIES IN THE GREATER BURBANK AREA

I disagree. If I had to eat an omelette at Eat & Park every day to ward off pregnancy, I'd have had children LONG ago. :)

I thought Chili John's was revolting. I've become a bit of a chili snob, though, since learning how to make it well myself. Chili My Soul is the only place around that I'd go to for chili if I were too lazy to spend the 4 hours to make mine.

And seriously, how OLD is this post?? How did it get revived from the grave?

Garlic Lovers: What dish served in LA has the most garlic?

It's not as bad as silverlakebodhisattva is making it sound. In fact, I wouldn't even call it "bad" so much as overpriced. The only thing I've ever had at the Stinking Rose that I couldn't find elsewhere that was worth the trip was their garlic ice cream. It's really a neat experience if you haven't had it. Of course, their Bagna Calda (roasted garlic that you spread on foccacia) is also delicious. I do think, however, that their entrees are way overpriced. I've never been bowled over by any of the entrees I've had (Crab, Prime Rib, Lasagna) , but they were all tasty - just not amazing. For the price, I was not impressed.

Still, if you're ever up for appetizers, drinks and then dessert, it's not a bad place to go.

Where are some of the best bakeries in LA?

Seconded!

Best Korean closest to Los Feliz?

Los Feliz is Koreatown adjacent, pretty much. I'd think the drive to Brand would be just as long. Maybe there's one with a delivery service in Koreatown - then you'll only have to open the door! No driving involved! :)

North Hollywood off Lankershim...?

ah! Totally seconded. I forgot all about that place. Very yummy bread that they bring to your table. I never thought of it as a cafe, though I guess it is. That's what I get for always ordering pasta. :)

North Hollywood off Lankershim...?

I haven't been there for lunch, but I'm pretty sure they're open then.

Dinner in Burbank?

Trust me, I know how hard it can be to sift through things in the search on this board. I only knew about the recent thread that I posted to you before because I started it! :) Be sure to let us know where you pick and what you thought!

Dinner in Burbank?

Downtown Burbank is definitely improving. I am a new to the area, and I certainly haven't been disappointed. You might want to check out the thread I referenced - there are a ton of great places that people recommended. If you haven't been to Burbank in a few years, it might be time to give it a second look.

As for Granville, I've never found it to be tacky. Never judge a restaurant by its website alone! Their fish has always been good, and I've enjoyed the salads I've eaten there. Adam really liked the burger when we had lunch there. They do have a wine list. Like I said, I'm not 100% on whether there's hard liquor there.

Vegan Cuisine for the Consumate Carnivore

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a pescatarian?

Best Nachos?

I have to second this. I've never had better. The location in the Koreatown area isn't bad either.
