CSA recommendations for 2012?

Which CSAs have home delivery within SF? I don't drive so its hard for me to get to most locations and difficult to get a big box of veg home.

Cheers.

Boxing Day Menu ideas?

Not sure why this is getting answered again. I wrote this in Dec of 2007.

I can't remember what I made, but I'm sure it was delicious and enjoyed by all.

Happy Christmas!

Cocktail reception in London

My partner and I had a party at Soho House for around the same number. You dont need to be a member to hire a room here. They sort everything out (food/drink, staff, flowers etc) and were very helpful.

Seeking cooking class in London

Leiths new location is handicap accessible now, with all the fixtures and fittings that come with that. The staff are very accommodating with people who have special needs.

Eagle Diner & Bar, Soho, London

Been here twice for breakfast. The first time we went my partners pancakes came to to the table burnt on one side. Came back to give them a second try and asked nicely for them not to burn the pancakes... guess what?

Sent them back and had something else... havent been back since.

London- Fitzrovia Pub

My partner and I are looking for a new pub for a regular lazy Sat/Sun lunch. Something that has that ideal combo of atmosphere, service and food.

We have been going to the Carpenter Arms. We like the atmosphere but the food isnt great and the service is inconsistent.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Caffeine Free Tea in UK?

Pack a few bags of your own decaf if its important to you. Im sure any place you go will understand you using your own if they dont have a decaf on offer.

London 4 Americans - Fun,Hip not BIG $$$

I agree with the other posters.

Why do you want to come to London to visit places like you have in NY and Miami?

We had some friends from NY here over the weekend and they wanted to go to The Sanderson Hotel for drinks... Along way to go for the same ambiance you can get at home, but double the price.

Excellent English food

Im sorry you dont like London. It takes a while before it gets under your skin.

Arbutus usually has rabbit on the menu, but sadly not in your budget. However I think they do a prix fixe lunch menu.

Where do cooks go to eat?

Been a cook in London for 7 years...

Chez Bruce is by far my most favourite restaurant in London. Its popular and well known but there is a reason for that.

Where can I find a great steak?

You could go to Gaucho Grill. Its a chain but thats where I go to satisfy my red meat cravings.

Kitchen knife sharpening in London?

You could just buy a whetstone and sharpen them yourself; its not that difficult once you get the hang of it. However some butchers will do this for you if you ask.

Once you get them sharpened make sure you use a steel and put an edge on them each time you use them. They will last much longer this way and wont have to be sharpened professionally as often.

The Winding Stair in Dublin

I too had an amazing Sunday lunch here last time I was in Dublin. I would highly recommend booking as they were turning people away when we were there.

Credit card tipping "scam" goes digital [Moved from UK/Ireland board]

London is slowly moving to 12.5% standard which is getting a bit cheeky. I usually ask them to remove the "optional service charge" and then tip in cash.

A lot of times the service charge goes to the restaurant whos management then decides how to compensate staff (if at all). I figure if I pay in cash, there is a better chance that my server will get the money.

Boxing Day Menu ideas?

Ive been arm twisted into inviting 4 people over for Boxing Day early supper, one of which is a very picky eater (no "spicy" foods) and one other is a vegetarian (although eats fish).

I would like something that could be made the day ahead and reheated or possibly assembled in the morning and slow cooked until needed. I am not having Christmas lunch at mine, so I wont have access to any leftovers.

I am at a loss, can anyone suggest anything that would fit my criteria?

Arbutus, SoHo, London

Was just there on Saturday the 15th, the second time for both of us. I had the Porchetta and the veal shin and my partner had the game terrine and the duck. Everything was wonderful.

First trip to London! Where to eat?!?! (Coming from San Francisco, LA and Chicago)

Rock And Sole Plaice in Covent Garden for Fish and Chips.

The Portrait Restaurant on the top floor of the National Portrait Gallery in Leicester Square for tea, scones etc... You must have clotted cream if you've never tried it!

Borough Market on Saturday early morning for breakfast and a great time. Just behind London Bridge station.

S & M cafe near Spittlefields Market (Liverpool Street station) for Sausage and Mash.

Have fun!
