Five Guys Burgers and Fries Opening in Thousand Oaks

I am anxious to try Five Guys...however, I love the Habit (Oxnard, Ventura-two locations there) and Santa Barbara (where it started). I can't stand In and Out..and yes, the fries are a joke..never "got" what its all about. So, since I am moving to Ventura Country, will try Five Guys.

I did a report titled "CLeveland's Little Italy...report". Unfortunately, we did not get to try any of the places recommended...we so wanted to but we ended up only having one day on our own and since my cousins had lived in Little Italy we wanted to go there. We thought it was fantastic...Nido Italia and Corbo's were fantastic...I can't stop thinking of the linguine and clams and the cannoli's!! I hope to get back there before another 20 years goes by!! You have a treasure in Littly Italy...I hope you can appreciate it....wish we had it!!

Cleveland's Little Italy...report

We recently were in Cleveland for a wedding..coming from CA. My Aunt is Italian and she and her family lived in Cleveland's Little Italy section for many years. My cousin gave me a few names of restaurants to have lunch in (they go back to the area at least once a month). On the top of the list was Nido Italia....we sat outside and had the best Linguine with clams...ever! Lots and lots of little clams...yum..the flavor of the dish was spot on! We sat outside and took in the day to day life of the area. Also, Corbo's bakery...what a treat for us Californian's to have the real deal of canoli's...stuffed after purchase, yummy and smooth...very smooth! OMG...wonderful. The Italian side of my family (most are Irish in my family) know how real this area is, they lived there for years.

How I wish I had something as real and good as Nido Italia and Corbo's!!

Thanks everyone!! Our time is so short..going to a cousin's wedding and trying to fit in a few extra days and also see where my grandparents lived, etc. Hope we get to try one of two of these suggestions at least!! Thanks so much!!

We are coming to Cleveland this week and will be staying in Westlake. We will take a drive to the other areas metioned as well. Would love to know about restaurants in those areas..nothing too fancy. We are not into Indian food but love most others...dh loves seafood, and I love Italian...we would love to know about anything specifically Cleveland in those areas.

Thanks for any information....Westlake will be the most important since we are staying there.
Thanks,
Patti

Wood's Ranch!! Its not mayonnaisey...which is one of the things I like about it..and, it has peanuts in it...makes it nice and crunchy.

I never saw the attraction to the BH location..."so-so" food for way too much money...just not worth it.

I have wanted to go to Jin Patisserie for awhile now....but Lilly's sound nice too....and then, the Grove...I forgot about that area...might be nice for some window shopping, etc..then again, my sister used to love the Farmers Market years ago....forgot about that too!!

Thanks!! I have plenty of choices now and great ideas!!

A Saturday lunch....casual, not ethnic, not expensive

I live 3 hours away from LA but get down every so often and grew up in LA...so I do know the areas...and I do have my favorites but they won't work in this situation. My sister is flying in to LA on the 26th, and I am driving to LAX to pick her up with 2 friends (all ladies....not hipsters, but not ready for rocking chairs either!!lol). My sister loves the Cuban restaurant Versailles (in Manhattan Beach) so we may end up there...(not sure if my other friends will like it). Also, that night we are going to the Hollywood Bowl to see Diana Ross....(we don't have great seats because I just found out my sister was coming). Two of them have never been so it will be a fun night!! We will have to hang out somewhere and or shop since we won't be going home until late that night...ugh, the drive home!

So, if we don't eat at the Cuban place I racking my brain with a place everyone will like...(yeah, that's my first mistake). I am thinking of Clementines but I also thought of the Surfas Cafe since one of the ladies would get a kick out of the store, but hear the food in the Cafe's not great. I am also thinking of Joans on Third (but was also thinking of saving that for the later afternoon to pick up food the the Bowl). Also, BLD? Or Bread Bar?

If we do Clementines for lunch I was thinking that Joans on Third for dinner would be too much of the same? My friends are not adverturous eaters and can't spend $30 for lunch.

I'd love somewhere we could sit and relax for a bit since my sister would have just flown in from Texas.

Sorry, this is me thining out loud...but, though someone might have some ideas or thoughts on this.

I appreciate any help, thanks!

Restaurant near Majestic Theater (Phantom) W. 44th

My BIL and SIL are coming to NY for the very first time. They have really not traveled anywhere before and are coming from Texas. This is a big time splurge for them. They are not on a big budget and are looking for a place for dinner before the theater-it will be a Sat. night at the end of Oct.

I've only been to NY once so I am not a big help. I have heard of Carmine's on 44th which would be down the street....but have not been...would this work for them? Or can you suggest something else...they are not adventurous eaters nor can they spend more than $100 for the meal (they do not drink so won't be ordering wine, etc.). In fact, as close to $50 for the meal would be closer to what they are comfortable with. Yes, I've told them that NY is expensive and they will just have to deal with it.

Any ideas on 44th near the Majestic Theater or thereabouts??

Thanks for any help...they are a sweet couple and I would love to help them have a wonderful time in NYC.

Since I live in the desert we are so looking forward to the ocean!!! Any ideas would be so appreciated in Del Mar, San Onofre, and Ocean Side.....

Late lunch in Pasadena or Montrose for this Sunday

We'll be in Pasadena this Sunday and will want lunch late around 2:00 or 3:00.....coming down from Ridgecrest for the Rose Bowl Flea Market.....only hot dogs offered there!!

We're looking into something for a late lunch...in either Pasadena or Montrose as its on the way home.....

We are open to most foods....just somewhere to relax, enjoy the day and have a nice lunch before we head up the 14 frwy......

I would say the Green Street Restaurant because their Diane Salad is out of this world good....we came down about 3 weeks ago and had it.....its HUGH and delicious!!! However, we want to try somewhere else just to add to our "places to eat"......

Thanks for any ideas....

The Apple Pan hickory burger revisited (with clear eyes)

Yes, the burgers are really good and the fries excellent. The "burgers" at In N Out are very cardboardy tasting.

The service staff at the Apple Pan is lacking for sure but the burger is so worth it.

The Apple Pan hickory burger revisited (with clear eyes)

For me, the Steak Burger at the Apple Pan is the best hamburger around. I've been eating them since 1964 and still love them. I love the lettuce on the burger and the great relish, the meat is sirlion and does not taste like "k rations" like In and Out (blech) does. Don't even get me started on the comparison of the french fries...Apple Pan's tastes like ah.....potatoes...as they should. Yeah, I love the Apple Pan...I can't get into the "fast food" bugers...esp. In and out... what a joke.

Bobs Big Boy

Bob's Big Boy....how I love that place..many, many memories. I still love that hamburger..yeah, its the red relish!! I remember going with my family (Glendale location) when I was 5 and hearing "Hey Paula" on the radio. I went to John Marshall HS and we would go on Wed. nights after club meetings....what fun we had. I remember going to the Wilshire/near Highland one also with my folks. In 1976 (after parents divorce) I would take my dad to the Van Nuys one for breakfast on Saturday mornings...great breakfasts too!! 1978 would be the last time for me at the Glendale location...right before I moved from LA. Gosh...it was Bob's when my parents were looking at houses, it was Bob's with hs friends, it was Bob's after a hs friend died, it was Bob's after a hs friend got married, it was Bob's the day we were taking my sister looking for an apartment, it was Bob's with my dad and many, Saturday mornings having time together, it was Bob's while I was shopping for wedding things. Both my folks loved Bob's and my dad is gone now and my mom lives in Ireland....all I have to say is Bob's and she'd remember......

I'll never forget "Pledging" a sorority at Glendale Community College where you had to dress up one day in whatever "getup" your Big Sister wanted you to come as....one of the gals had to come to school as Big Boy....she did a great job...overalls, etc....she went to Bob's early that morning and she got a hamburger and put it on a plate and walked around like that all day.....we all got nick names...guess what her's was?

There is one in Victorville/Hesperia and one off I-15 near Barstow......where is the one in Glendale now? Is there really one at the Glendale Galleria?? I'll have to make it down there....

Cupcakes?

Tried Ledas on Friday...boy was I disappointed!! I LOVE cupcakes and was so looking forward to these....but, the cake was so dense and dry.....not moist AT ALL.....granted, it was 4:30 by the time I got there....are they soft and moist in the morning? I love the idea of the small cupcakes and the frosting flavors were ok....I did like the deluce one... that was different.

I am a cupcake fanatic so I tried My Little Cupcake on Monday morning.....they were better than Ledas as far as the cake is concerned but my favorite is still Yummy in Burbank (I liked Sprinkles that has been awhile....)...next time in town I'll have to do a test test between Yummy and Sprinkles.....
Yummy also had great flavors!! They just tasted more like a real cupcake and not a "stepford cupcake" ha ha....
