Soft Shell Crabs in DC

A second to Fishnet. Great place.

Moving to downtown Silver Spring - a summary, please

Great list. I go back and forth, but still think Nava is No. 2 in Wheaton Thai behind Ruan. Both very good.

There used to be a tasty Mali food truck stationed at a gas station in DT SS, but haven't been for a while.

Where to buy alcholoic ginger beer?

Haven't seen it here, but want to try it if available after seeing the ads at English football (soccer) stadiums for Crabbie's.

White pizza

No fontina but Pacci's in Silver Spring has a nice variety of white pizzas. Excellent.

I need an idea for dinner out in Mont Cty

MetroRail-Friendly Ethnic Eats in the DC 'Burbs

opps ... to edit: the decadent day would be a Hellburger with an Assorti Cake. For me, though, I like the whole meal at Assorti .... unless I've in a huge burger mood.

MetroRail-Friendly Ethnic Eats in the DC 'Burbs

I'm big on Wheaton for all the places mentioned. There's also Hollywood East, Marchione's and Moby Dick sushi, but of you're headed to Ray's Hellburger consider a trip to Cafe Assorti too. for Kazakh/Russian food. A decadent day would be a Hellburger with their amazing cakes for dessert ... although the full dinner at Assorti is awesome.

Deep fried turkey?

I recall a place in Bethesda doing it ... mostly as a public service because of the fire danger that we will all be warned about in the week before Thanksgiving.

Might have been a burger place. Not that close to Alexandria, however.

Authentic Greek Gyro in Maryland/DC/NOVA?

A very Greek thing to do in some parts of Greece.

Authentic Greek Gyro in Maryland/DC/NOVA?

Yamas is good, especially the gyros, but service seems to have dropped off. We had a problem on our last visit. I noted it and mentioned the good food on their FB page.

They requested that I email them. I sent a NICE note ... and never heard back.

lunch between BWI and Great FAlls

Ruan is actually a pretty ease trip on that route. You take the University Ave. exit off the Beltway and Ruan is just off university when you hit Wheaton. Then you can take either Georgia or Connecticut back to 495.

Flying Thursday, start eating Friday. Would love recs/feedback for Anchorage, Seward, drive to Homer, Girdwood please.

Probably too late, but I think the Double Musky is still a great bet for Girdwood.

7-foot submarine sandwich

Definitely Marchone's over Sniders for the sanwich (although both places are great for different things), but with oil I don't think a Marchone's would travel well to Arlington. If the Italian Store offers what you need, they'll do a great job.

Driving to Philly : Where to eat lunch on the way?

Sorry, just a lame attempt at a little futbol humor ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvOf0-O4SJQ

In the same vein, perhaps a place with paper plates might be better

Seriously, tho, Samos (which is no dive) is a good bet for a relatively quick, casual stop for stop along the way. Or maybe a pit beef stop, but I don't know about access to I-95. In general, though, searching the Philly board will have some great recs there.

Enjoy the game (and 2nd place in LaLiga) :)

Driving to Philly : Where to eat lunch on the way?

If you're Real fan, you (and CR) will probably enjoy many of the roadside dives.

sour cherries at farmers markets?

Saw plenty at the Kensington FM yesterday.

Dim Sum, again...

I think this was the case right after the move, but HWE seems to have regained its footing if my most recent visit was any indication. HWE has always seemed to do the difficult pieces better IMO.

Island Hut in Wheaton

Guessing so. I didn't ask the specific island and most of my experience is in V.I,, but I know Brown Stew chicken is often identified with Jamaica. The sodas were Jamaican but that seems to be the case in a lot of Caribbean places.

Island Hut in Wheaton

Checked out the latest new place in the treasure trove that is Wheaton. Island Hut took over the space in the dinner-like Irene's on University just east of Georgia.

Excellent chicken lunch at Chowhoundish prices. I had the curry while Mrs. Repete has the Brown Stew chicken. The curry was very nice. Those of you who like a lot of heat might want to let them know. Brown Stew was excellent as well.

Lots of care put into the meals. Rice was nicely spiced. Cabbage side was perfect. We brought home a piece of coconut cake that we'll have later.

Good food, very nice people. It's a crowded scene of good-eating in Wheaton and this is a good addition. I hope they do well.

Three-day weekend in D.C.

I'm eager to get to Galileo III and hope Donna revisits his "Grill Days." When he's on, he produces great stuff.

Monin Syrups

Haven't seen them locally, but Monin has an online store with free shipping. http://www.moninstore.com/

Coming to D.C. in April...We know nothing!! Need some good recs.

Love Taylor Gourmet, but Cowgirl Creamery sandwiches might be better if you're packing for travel.

Restaurant near GWU?

Friends like Java Green for lunch, but I haven't been and it doesn't look like a dinner place.

For dinner, maybe Blue Duck. They have some veg options and aren't too far. I think dpan might have had his iPad upside down .. ;)

Why doesn't Juice Joint get more love around here?

Plenty of love from me. I learned about it here. Best ginger-beet-apple juice in town -- along with other things.

Salmon burgers?

Also, if making your own from fresh, I'd suggest a firmer fleshed, wild caught Pacific salmon, probably a coho (silver) or king (chinook). Would probably hold together better than a sockeye (red).

But I've got a pretty nasty bias against farmed, dyed salmon.

Salmon burgers?

More expensive but a little better quality are the Trader Joe's patties.

Snack place for teens near the wax museum at 10th and F St NW?

Another for the future list: Pret is very close.

Grade B Maple Syrup?

I've seen it there.

New Job In Chinatown-Where do I eat?

I'm always torn at taylor between the pork.broccoli and the chicken cutlet with prosciutto and sharp provolone -- both are great sandwiches. Thanks for the names of the potato place and panini shop.
