Returning to Asheville

We really enjoyed ourselves at Isa's Bistro in the Haywood Park Hotel. We found the food to be excellent and the service was great. We had Ali as our wait person and she gave us wonderful recommendations. Sitting outside was lots of fun; people watching in Asheville is the best.

Vinnie's in Asheville

We waited a week to let them work the service out and looks like a hit. The place was packed with people and now we know why. Our meal was great!!! the price was right and the wines matched up with the food prices. I'll miss savoy but not much. the north side needed a family place with good food and service.

Asheville - Best of 2009

Well the only drink I get there is a martini and Les does a great job with it. I think the real reason the bar there does so well is there beer and wine list. It's not the boring crap everyone else serves. An ever changing selection that gives you a chance to taste products you only get to read about.

Asheville Fig - similar to Market Place?

Fig is nothing like the Market Place. They are much smaller and and attention to detail is greater. Fig is also in the Biltmore area which has a host of great places to dine. The new hotel is doing a fine dining, Stovetrotters, Corner Kitchen and Reza's are all out performing most of the downtown places now. My choice between Table and Nova is Nova hands down. My reason for picking Nova is they have a better wine list.

Asheville (area) best

I think they do a great job there. I've been several times and so far have enjoyed it. They are not afraid to add the spice and most the dishes have had a little heat to them. The beer and wine list have been improved also; but has a great margarita.

Suwana's Thai Orchid - Asheville

My wife and I went in tonight and had a wonderful experience. Sept. is always the best time in asheville to get into places, very little tourist in town. We started with the TOM YUM and TOD MAN GOONG; excellent. We had the THAI FRIED RICE as our main course; very nice flavors.

GREAT FINE DINING in Asheville NC

I would agree that Richmond Hill has slowly been going down hill over the last 6 to 8 months.
They seemed to have lost most of their staff and just doesn't have the same feeling it had. The new Steak and Wine was really good the other night. I have been twice, the first time food was excellent but staff was weak. Second time both were up to par. Back to the best food in town, I would say we have several places that come to mind. Savoy,Fig, Vincenzo's, Market Place,Limones, Sugo's, Corner Kitchen and Tupelo Honey are always on my list.

Asheville, NC- Steak and Wine

I understand that the new Steak and Wine is opening this weekend. It's going in the old S&W building downtown. From the looks of it, they have done an excellent job with the remodel. Should also have a great bar upstairs. The menu and wine list look very tempting and should be a welcome addition to the Asheville downtown dining experience.

Cucina 24 - Asheville

I couldn't agree more, very nice indeed. They did an excellent job with the remodel and have put together a really nice place to dine. Our food was excellent, service A+ and the only down side was the all Italian wine list. Not that I don't enjoy italian wines, but I like to have more of a selection.

Asheville updates

Both Sugo and Chorizo are doing fine. The other night while at Sudo we saw several of the other restr. owner's dining out there. My wife had the lamb shank and I had the mixed grill, both were great. Chorizo at lunch is just a great deal. Lot's of new places coming for the summer months, changs RC steaks and more.

Asheville: XPress writer Hannah Rachel Raskin [Moved from South board]

Once again you're working at killing another fine restaurant. The Stove trotter review was off the wall. I have been there 4 times so far and everyone that I've taken has loved it. Most have been back on thier own and have called to say thank you for telling them about it. Do you ever go anywhere and have a good expereince? You keep this up and there won't be any restaurant's advertising in the xpress much longer. I'm sure the Advertising department at xpress loves you. One by one you are closing the doors. Keep biting the hand that feeds you and maybe Mackensie will give you a position over at her restaurant. And please don't write about them, I like it there. We need all the good restaurants we can get in east-ville. Mac's food is a lot better than her writing, How are your cooking skills?

Impressive in Charleston

Peninsula Grill is one of the best places I've been anywhere. As a matter of fact, it's one of my all time best meals. And the cake, it can't get any better. SNOB and Blossons are two good ones also.

Heading to Charleston

One of the best meals I've had anywhere was at The Peninsula Grill. Chef Carter was the chef at Richmond Hill before relocating to Charleston. Be sure to save room for the coconut cake. Could be the best made anywhere. Great wine list and I think the best place in Charleston. You can't go wrong with SNOB or Blossoms. I enjoyed McCrady's but felt it was a little over priced.

Sugo- Where the other restaurants owners go

We decided to visist Sugo again because we had a wonderful meal there a few weeks ago. When we walked in and realized most the clients there were from other restaurants in town, we knew we made the right decision. In the house were groups from Table, Richmond Hill and Savoy. Always a good sign and again we enjoyed our meal. If you haven't been yet, you need to see what you are missing. Not sure if they do this every Tuesday night but last night they were selling bottles of wine 50% off. Always a bonus in my book. See there next Tuesday.

Stovetrotter Bistro, Asheville

We have been twice and have enjoyed both meals. The first time was a wine dinner that was just excellent. Wines were matched up very well with food. The speaker from the winery was very good and not boring. The room is small but it made for a nice group setting. The second time was to check out the food on a regular night. Again, the experience was a solid A. The Biltimore area has turned into a place to go again.

What I'm saying is that when you know these folks who have independent restaurant and you see first hand what a bad review from a person who might or might not know what they are talking about does to them. I dine out 5 or 6 times a week and some of the reviews were just wrong. Hey, we all have had a bad expereince when going out but I would like to read about the restaurants that are doing something specail or hot. I want to read about the good places in Asheville, the exciting places. About wine dinners or specail events. Word of mouth will keep folks from going to bad places. Is it to much to ask to read GOOD news or good reviews? I guess some will say it's half full and other it's half empty. I read the xpress because it's has information mostly dealing with the positive things going on in Asheville. These restaurants work their butts off and have everything on the line. Keep me informed with whats good and new, I can watch TV to hear all the bad news I want.

Gee Hannah and Jeff, I hate to break up the love fest but really. The bottom line is if you want to know if a restaurant is any good, check out Chow not the MtnExp. Better yet, go try the place for your own thoughts.
Hannah, I'm sure you are doing what you think is best but for some time (years) the reviews from the xpress have been less than fair to the A.I.R members and non-members. If you live in Asheville long enough you know that this market is not an easy one. Many a winter has put restaurants out of business; not just bad food. A.I.R has been a way for the little guy to work together and to help others do a better job making Asheville a great place to dine out. I'm looking forward to visiting your restaurant one day when you decide you can do it better than everyone else who has put their money where their mouth is. Keep up the easy work, lighten up a bit and enjoy the food and wine. Going out should be fun, quit picking apart the places and enjoy.

Corner Kitchen - Asheville

We had dinner Sat night also and really did enjoy ourselves. We were downstairs and even coming in late, they were very busy. Lady Wino had the salmon and I went with the beef. They finally added more wines to the list. Still have a few gro. store wines but they are moving in the right direction. The Sauvignon Blanc's could use some work. Maybe add a Voss or Honig to the selections. A New Zealand SB would also be nice to see. The Red's by the glass could use a little help, maybe something a little bigger for those who don't mine paying a few more dollars for something to enjoy the beef with. Over all, a solid experience. the staff is well trained and helpfull.

I couldn't agee more. the xpress has the worst food writers I've ever seen. You wonder if they are working at putting independent restaurants out of business to help keep the chains busy. Always picking on the little guys. Air has done a good job of keeping these pit bulls away.

Asheville - Market Place - Chowhound mentioned

The Market Place is one of the oldest places it town and has set the standard for fine dining for years. Mark and his staff do an excellent job changing the menu to for current season. Nothing out of a #10 can here and a staff that is well trained. Always has a nice wine list and I've never had a bad experience. One of Asheville's best.
New guys that are also on par with market place; fig, savoy, vincenzo's, rezaz's and bouchons.

Asheville's Best Restaurants

Your list has a few of my top ten. Zambra-just a fun place to eat and drink ,Fig- high end experience in a small area, excellent all the way around, Limones- fresh and nice wine list, Bouchon- just like being in Paris, Rezaz- has taken food to the next level-another good wine list, Black Forest- German and Italian food mixed into a fun place, Savoy- the best food on the north end of town, Vincenzo- Great fun before and after dinner with the bar downstairs with wonderful dining upstairs, great Italian wine selection, Corner Kitchen- southern cooking done very well, Bistro1896- great for people watching with good fresh seafood. Excellent selection of wines at a better than fair price.
I wasn't very happy with my meal at Table. The food was just ok and the wine selection was just average. Lot's of off the wall wines marked up high.
