Multi Course Prix Fixe/Chef's Menu in Denver?
Restaurant Kevin Taylor might also be one to consider. Have you considered Frasca in Boulder?
drinking water on Maui...bring a Brita filter or buy filtered water
In order to save money and be a little green, we have brought a Brita water pitcher to Maui for the past few years to filter our drinking water instead of buying bottled water. I noticed that Napili Market sells water for $0.52/gallon from a dispenser which they assure me is for drinking. Has anyone tried buying water at the market? How does the taste compare with bottled water? We just can't drink the tap water at our condo but I am wondering if we can just buy water by the gallon and avoid bringing the Brita pitcher this year. Thanks for your help!
where can I get great sticky buns in Denver?
I made some myself a few months ago that were fantastic but they were a lot of work. Where can I buy great sticky buns with lots of gooey caramel and pecans on the top? All I seem to find are dry, crumbly ones with only a thin caramel on top and a little cinnamon inside. Tell me I'm not doomed to make my own for the rest of my life.
Dan Dan Noodles in Boulder/Denver?
I was there last Saturday and they were definitely open for business. They are closed on Mondays, though.
Lao Wang Noodle House....
Sorry to post this way but I couldn't reply to the Dan Dan noodle thread below. I was at Lao Wang last Saturday ( and Wednesday as well) and they were definitely open. They are closed on Mondays so maybe you just hit them today when they were closed.
Looking for a few dinner options near DU
What's the name of "the Asian place"? Grandma likes Chinese food. Thanks for all your help.
Looking for a few dinner options near DU
I need to find a restaurant for a group of 7 diners near DU. The diners are 3 fans of fine dining, 2 teenagers, a gourmand who eats anything lots of it, and my 75-old mother who rarely dines out. While I'm not necessarily interested in anything too fancy, I would like a nice sit-down dinner before a musical performance at DU next month. I don't live on that side of town so I would appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!
Over Ripe Plantains? Recipes? Ways to use them up?
If the skins are black, you can just bake them in the skins like a potato.
Best Pho nearest Golden (or Denver)?
Have you tried Pho Golden on Old Golden Road in the shopping center with King Soopers? I love Pho Duy, just like Stragewine, but Pho Golden is good and doesn't involve the traffic on Federal. I also had a killer Vietnamese Noodle Bowl at Pho Golden. If you decide to go to Federal, Pho Duy only serves pho. New Saigon serves an extensive Vietnamese menu and has a little more "atomosphere", if you can call it that, than Pho Duy. Pho Duy is good, cheap, and fast but definitely not a place to linger over a leisurely dinner.
Sam Choy's vs Fishhopper for Valentine's Day Dinner
We were in Kona a couple of years ago and had planned to go to Rapanui but it was unexpectedly closed. A saleswoman recommended the Fishhopper. There was someone outside giving out free app coupons so we decided to give it a try. I didn't hold out much hope for the food but, boy, was I wrong. I had a macadamia nut crusted fish with rice pilaf that was the best I've ever had. It was really delicious. The other dishes were good, too. We also enjoyed sitting by the window and watching the local outrigger canoe teams practice. It's not elegant or romantic, but we really enjoyed our dinner there.
Visiting Denver - Inviting Your Recommendations (with caveats)
maybe it would be helpful to hear where you are coming from and what type of cuisine you prefer at home. I think you will find the dining options in Denver varied and folks willing to make reasonable substitutions and accomodations. There are plenty of us who are knowledgeable about Denver dining options so don't be too quick to write us off.
Visiting Denver - Inviting Your Recommendations (with caveats)
Wow, that's a tall order. Given your limitations, steak houses seem to be a no-brainer but with the price point, that's out of the question. Good luck!
Denver Restauarant week newbie questions....
Open Table is a great way to make reservations online. The great thing is that you can obviously do it any time of the day or night. We have taken advantage of RW in the past but don't really do it anymore. It is great for those who want to check out the food at a given restaurant but the service is often not the best and you will be choosing from a very limited menu. The restaurants are very crowded which doesn't lend itself to a leisurely dining experience. Good luck and let us know which reservations you score.
Big Island in Feb.
Could the "chef-driven placed owned by New Zealanders" be Rapanui? I've been to the Big Island a couple of times and it is my favorite. I haven't heard any mention of it here on the board in over a year so I hope it's still around.
Bacon my mail
Guess I was typing and drooling at the same time. Thanks for the Zingerman's rec. I'll check them out!
Bacon my mail
I'm thinking of ordering bacon to give to friends this year as a Christmas gift. I have seen Nueske's mail order catalog but I know there must be others out there. Does anyone have any to recommend or to recommend avoiding? I'm not looking for a "Bacon of the Month" type of product but one that I can order by the pound or package. Thanks!
Narrowing down my choices for one week vacation in Maui
We had the worst meal of our trip to Maui at Maui Brewing Company. We didn' t like the beer either.
Narrowing down my choices for one week vacation in Maui
My guess is that it would be a good idea to allow about 45 minutes for that drive. FYI the Plantation House would only be about 5 or 10 minutes longer (if that) than the Sea House. You might also want to consider the Gazebo (which is literally just a stone's throw from the Sea House) for breakfast. It definitely has a more casual vibe and is a local favorite. If the Mama's Ribs you are considering is the one in Napili (I guess there is more than one) you might want to consider driving to the Sea House, the Gazebo, or the Plantation House for breakfast, hanging out at Napili Beach for the morning, and then hitting Mama's Ribs for lunch since they are literally only about 5 minutes apart. There is a Maui Tacos in the same shopping center as Mama's Ribs in Napili, too. Seems like you could make a good day of it. Napili Beach is gorgeous and often rated as one of the top beaches on Maui.

Foodie Suggestions for Lahaina Restaurants
Mama's is WAY cheaper at lunch and you get to enjoy the beautiful view. We always spend half an hour or so on the beach directly in front of the restaurant and take some photos. We also loved Monkeypod Kitchen in Wailea for lunch. It's about a 45 minute drive from Lahaina so plan accordingly.
Maui restaurant week and monkey pod
We loved Monkeypod Kitchen. The cocktails and pizzas were great and the pies were some of the best I've had anywhere. We will definitely go back the next time we visit Maui.
must eat Denver
D Bar Desserts has the best chocolate layer cake I've ever had. I haven't been there for a while and I know that's all I'll be thinking about all day long. Thanks for reminding me, Terry!

Corporate dinner for 25 in Boulder - good food?
I think Lauidisio has a room that could accomodate that number of folks. I have eaten there a few times and have always enjoyed the food.
Narrowing the restaurant choices down for family vacation in Maui
We loved, loved, loved Monkey Pod Kitchen. We drove all the way from Napili two days in a row to eat lunch there. Standouts were the Ho'opono Punch cocktail, the fries, and the PIES. We drove by Star Noodle on our last day there and will have to save it for next time. I wish we had been able try it on this visit.

Lakewood CO suggestions
Uh, it's Moose Hill Cantina. I like 240 Union. The strip where it is located is undergoing a facelift but I think it's still open. It is definitely more "fine dining" and less "local". You can check out the menu on their website.

Fiori -- Great Barrington?
We are heading to the Berkshires for our annual vacation and I was just lamenting the demise of Pearl's when I stumbled upon a post listing Fiori as it's latest reincarnation. Can anyone give me feedback on lunch there (as per their website, beginning in June)? Anything else to recommend? I can't wait to have ice cream at Rubiner's but what else should I look forward to? We might also find ourselves in Williamstown and Northampton. Anything to recommend there? Thanks!
Maui Restaurants
We just got back from Maui and 2 delicious lunches at Monkey Pod Kitchen in Wailea. The Ho'opono Punch cocktail was delightfully light and refreshing and the beers on tap were chilled just right. The pizzas and sandwiches that we sampled were good and the pies (chocolate, coconut, and strawberry cream) were the best I've had in a long time. The worst meal of our trip was hands down at the Maui Brewing Company. The burger, fish and chips, and onion rings were all bland....not even salted. We weren't fans of the beers there either. Our server was pretty clueless as to the menu, as well. Hope you have a great trip!
Waikiki - without a car - need a rec for lunch
We ended up at the Surf Lanai in the Royal Hawaiian. It was fine, but pricey. The find of our trip so far has been a sandwich shop/pastry shop on Kuhio called St. Germain. The sandwiches and pastries are delicious and the prices are very reasonable. The ham and cheese baguette was just like the ones I've had in Paris. We did the walk from Chinatown to Waikiki a couple of years ago and I don't think my daughter will ever forgive me for it. I thought it was pleasant enough, but long and hot.

thanks for the advice. It seems as if we can't go wrong with any of the recommendations.
