Copper River Salmon sightings yet?
Has anyone seen Copper River Salmon for sale yet? The only one I've seen is Isaacson & Stein, which is always our first choice for any seafood, but it's not always convenient.
sweet potato fries
We make them all the time and try different variations. Just slice sweet potatoes to as thick or thin as you like them. Pat them dry and place into a large bowl. Make a mixture of olive and/or grapeseed oil. Add fresh cracked pepper (white & black), kosher or celtic salt. We've also used chile powder, cayenne pepper... the sweet/spicy/salt end result is great. Toss the oil mixture with the sweet potatoes. Bake at 425 until browned, time depends on thickness of slices. You can turn the slices 1/2 way through baking, but I've found that it works almost just as well without. Enjoy:)
Gospel Brunch Recipe Ideas?
Since our kids are all working on Easter, I was trying to think of something fun & different for my husband & I to do for Easter. I came up with the idea of creating a gospel brunch menu for us along with mimosas & gospel tunes on the iPod. Having never attended a gospel brunch and being last minute, I'm turning to you all for some menu options... ! Some healthy options would be great too!
Thanks so much!
Greek in the west burbs of Chicago
I would give Odyssey another vote. We always go to the one in Lombard and have never been disappointed. The food & service has always been excellent!
Etnics - any new in western suburbs?
Don't know how I've passed this & not noticed this.... since you are a fellow Yum-Thai fan, I should tell you the reason I'm searching for a place to go tonight is that it's my birthday and it's always my go-to birthday place. Since they're closed on Mondays, I need to look elsewhere this year!! Thanks once again for the rec!
Etnics - any new in western suburbs?
Just wondering if anyone has come upon any new & interesting ethnic restaurants in the western suburbs? Was hoping for something Moroccan or meditteranean, but am open to just about anything (except Chinese!). Also, something that's open on Monday!
Thanks!
Dad is turning 60 Menu & Wine Pairing - Help Quick(ly)! :)
Wow.... what a menu! Looks awesome. My birthday is this Monday (care to adopt me as your Mom for the day:)!
New Buffalo, Michigan Restaurant
I second the Tabor Hills recommendation, although it is a bit of a drive.... make sure to do some wine tasting before heading into the restaurant. Also, if you make a reservation, try to get a window seat.
Brewsters is also a great recommendation.... and much closer.
You won't be disappointed in either.
Dinner suggestions near Vic Theater?
We often go to Duck Walk before a Vic show.... little cozy Thai restaurant just around the corner on Belmont, about a 2 minute walk. Only holds maybe 20-25 people or so, but we've never had a problem getting a table. Very friendly service and delicious food. BYOB also. We've even run into band members catching a bite to eat before the show there.

Carry-out mexican near Forest Park?
We finally tried Zacatacos last night (Cermak location). We were so looking forward to some really good authentic Mexican food, since we really don't have anything great in our area. They were somewhat crowded, but there were some available seats, so no waiting. We started with 2 Modelo Especiales, which I even pointed to on the menu. Instead she brought us one of their drink specials which was Clamato juce, with some type of salsa, lime juice mixed with a Modelo Especiale. Wasn't what we ordered, so she took them back & brought us the correct drink order. Then onto the guacamole and side order of pico de gallo and a side of jalapenos. Never got the jalapenos. Guacamole was very good, a bit heavy on the onions, but that's just my preference to have less onions. Lots of cilantro:)! Still no jalapenos. My husband ordered the carne asada dinner and I ordered a chile relleno taco & a asada taco. She forgot the tortillas for the carne asada dinner & said she's be right back with them. We waited & waited... finally asked another waiter with no luck. Asked another waitress. By this time, our beers were finished and we were trying to order 2 more. No acknowledgment. After 10-15 minutes, our waitress finally came back with the warm tortillas, but the dinner was obviously cold. The carne asada was like shredded beef with a lot of gristle and fat, very chewy. My asada taco was the same. The tortillas were fresh and the tacos had plenty of filling. The salsas were very good. We had such high hopes for Zacatacos, but left there very disappointed. Maybe it was just a bad night? Or is the Harlem location better?
Best Chicago Wine Store?
If you're planning to pick up a couple of cases, Binny's does deliver. I'm assuming by your name that you're from Dayton? They do deliver to certain areas of the country... it depends on the laws in the individual states though. I agree that Binny's in Lincoln Park has the best selection and great customer service! Another plus is they have convenient (and free) parking.
Casual, fun dinner recs
Buddy Guy's Legends serves up some great cajun cuisine and live blues every night. They normally don't charge a cover until about 8:30. It's a fun, relaxed place with a lot of blues history. If Buddy is not on tour, there's a very good chance he'll be at the club :)

Carry-out mexican near Forest Park?
This is for my husband's birthday, so I'm probably looking for something with a little frills. Maybe something between Zacatacos and New Rebozo? I was doing a little bit of searching and came across La Quinta in Berwyn. Have you been there and if so, what is your opinion? There will probably be 6 of us dining.
Zacatacos will definitely be a go-to for us in the future though... looks great! I didn't realize they had moved into the old Kathy's Hacienda location. We used to go there when it was Kathy's and whatever the previous place was also.

Carry-out mexican near Forest Park?
Gordeaux... would Zacatacos accommodate dining in or is it primarily carry-out? We're looking for somewhere in the same vicinity for Friday night for Mexican.
Thanks!

Dinner in Geneva or St. Charles
Looking for dinner rec's for tonight in Geneva or St. Charles for a group of young 50-something high school friends getting together to catch up. Something casual, fun & conversation-friendly.
Thanks in advance!
Anything better than Aurelio's pizza near west burbs?
We also like Aurelio's (both Downers & Oakbrook Terrace locations)... the thin crust and slightly sweet sauce is delicious. We've tried many of the suburban Giordano's and have been disappointed by each and every one of them. Connie's in either Westmont or Naperville are both good. Rosati's in Lombard is also one of our all-time favorites.
Carry-out mexican near Forest Park?
Gordeaux.... thank you for your recommendations! I haven't been on in awhile, so I apologize for not replying sooner. We ended up going a little further east to Los Chilaquiles in Cicero & did carry-out for SummerDance at Grant Park. We tried the chilaquiles, guacamole, and the queso and verdes tamales. Everything was very good. The service was excellent... we plan on going back and dining in. It's very small, but cozy.... byob also!
Oh, and by the way, great suggestion on Yum Thai.... we've been going to Yum Thai 20+ years. Way before Eddy came & went. If I remember correctly, her Uncle used to own it back in those days. It's always our 'go-to' place for Thai at least 1x/month & we come from Glen Ellyn. I have one of their thai menus that I carry in our wine bag and we rate the various items as we try them. Nothing compares to Yum Thai... although we've yet to try TAC Quick. Yum Thai will always win our hearts & stomachs over =)

Carry-out mexican near Forest Park?
Looking to do carry-out mexican to pick up to take down to Grant Park tonight. We're catching the 'L' in Forest Park, so anything in that area would be preferable. I know there has to be an abundance in Cicero/Berwyn area, but have no idea what's recommended.
Muchos Gracias :)!
Need Thai restaurant recommendation for western suburbs
Well, this might be a bit late, but we always enjoy our meals & service at Tusk in Batavia. It's on River Street, just north of Wilson. Their summer rolls are great as is the banana blossom salad. We've been there at least 12-15 times and have loved every entree. BYOB also a plus!

Wheaton, IL 60187 - Anything local and good for breakfast, lunch or dinner nearby?
I grew up & still live in the area... there are some very good options in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn.
Vietnamese: Luong Loi on Main Street in Wheaton. Nicely decorated, casual spot in Wheaton. BYOB
http://www.luongloi.com/PICS/LL_MENU.pdf
Breakfast: Either of the Egglectic locations in Wheaton (one in the downtown area & one on the southern area just north of Butterfield & Naperville in Town Sqaure. Has been our favorite breakfast spot for at least 15 years.

Breakfast, lunch or dinner: Honey Cafe in Glen Ellyn (previously mentioned): Have been there for breakfast and lunch - delicious! Many organic & locally grown items. Everything is made fresh there.

Burgers: Alfie's Inn on Roosevelt in Glen Ellyn. Have been going there since I was a kid. Casual, very reasonably priced, melt in your mouth burgers & ice cold beer!!!

BBQ: Have not been here as of yet, but Austin BBQ in Wheaton has gotten some great reviews. I've driven by it and have no idea how I didn't stop since it smelled so good! If it makes a difference, I don't think they sell alcohol.

Sandwich: If you want a quick sandwich, Shane's Deli in downtown Wheaton makes great sandwiches using Boar Heads products. Our daughter worked there years ago and brought home some delicious creations!

There's more, but it's getting late & I need to get up early for work!
Hope this helps!

Yet another visitor (From Toronto) looking for Rec's
"I was at Buddy Guy's in '05 and I think I actually remember eating well there. We may eat somewhere else on Saturday night. Will have to give it some thought."
Buddy Guy relocated his club last year and is now located at 700 South Wabash (1 block north of the original club). We frequented the old club and have been to the new one a few times. Still has the old Legends vibe (they actually moved much of the pieces of the original club). The sound system is outstanding and the food is very good. It's always a good time @ Legends.
Sushi rec for tonight?
We're looking for a more traditional sushi spot for dinner tonight. Something anywhere between Paulina/North & Armitage/Western.
BYO is always a plus!
Thanks in advance...
Good food, music and dancing
Definite ditto on Buddy Guy's Legends.... the new location has a great sound system, food is delicious & the blues is always entertaining. If you go on a day when Buddy is not traveling, good chance you'll catch him sitting at the bar. There's not really an area designated for dancing, but if you're in the standing area, you could certainly dance there. Not sure what day you're thinking of heading out, but I checked the schedule and there's some good acts there in mid-November. Enjoy!!
Wine at Binny's: what do you like at $10-15
A friend of mine picked up a bottle of Peter Clancy (blend) at Binny's that we shared over some great vietnamese food last night. Very smooth. Link from Binny's below:

Korean in the Western Suburbs?
A friend is visiting from out-of-town and has a craving for Korean food. We're in the western suburbs and I've not had any luck finding a Korean restaurant. Hoping to avoid heading into the city, if possible.
Thanks!
Review: Blue Ginger Sushi & Lounge (Woodridge)
I've yet to find a great sushi place in the western suburbs as of yet (and have been looking for 20-some years!). Just curious if you've come across any in the western suburbs that compare with those in the city?
Thanks!
Good Puerto Rican Food in Chicago Suburbs?
Yes, looking forward to trying something new!!
