I was there recently for work. It is a little overpriced for the Habachi. I do not eat their sushi other than the California rolls...Better options around, namely Fuji in Darien

Oh, we still agree...the lady at the Sweet Shoppe is anything but. However I still love those lemon ices, as do my kids. It's kind of like the Soup Nazi episode on Seinfeld.

The best homemade Italian Ices in the area ARE in New Canaan...NOT at Gelatissimo, which does make great ice cream.
Go to the Canaan Parish Sweet Shoppe, corner of South Ave. & Elm St. Great ices, and while you're there pick up some homemade chocolates for me.

Went with the pulled pork and fresh corn from Walter Stewart's. Great stuff, as always.
Fair is much more crowded than when I went as a kid, wish they'd make it a 2-day thing. But we had a great time regardless.

The Field in Black Rock, CT ...
Give it another shot if you're in that area, it was still going through growing pains last year a semi-new place. The owner used to be head chef at O'Neil's...it's of the same ilk. Very good for its genre. You won't find too many places like it that are better in that area of Black Rock.

The food is very good, the staff is super-friendly. As far as Irish Pubs go, this is the best in the area, IMHO.
Best Burger in Fairfield County???
Best "dive" burgers are not around anymore...Donovans and Cherrystreet. Hopefully the new incarnations will maintain the old standards.
In the meantime...Rory's has a decent burger, as does Archie Moore's. There are good ones in Norwalk at Burger Bar Bistro (SoNo), as well as Tuckers and Dry Dock. I had a good one at Route 22 in Stamford the other day.
I remember an older posting in which someone described a dive in New Fairfield called The Carriage House with supposedly great burgers. I have not ventured up there, but the poster seemed very enthusiastic about the product...not so enthusiastic about the establishment.

Went to Saltwater for lunch yesterday. The space is pretty impressive, food was good, menu was pretty varied in regard to prices and selections.

Rte. 22 on the Stamford-Greenwich line is perfect for kids. Pretty good food too.

Smokey Joe's in Stamford, Ash Creek Saloon in Norwalk, and The Cookhouse on the Darien/Norwalk line are my favorites in FF County.

I agree with jfood (as usual), the service is terrible, but the food is so damn good. My wife and I get takeout 4-5 times a month, and I maybe hit a sitdown lunch there with coworkers once every couple of months.
I've come to learn that the trick with takeout is to add 10 minutes to whatever time you are told on the phone.
Curious, jfood...what else do they own?
