Jose's Cambridge recent experience

My first time there was for brunch yesterday. I ordered chilaquiles with eggs and cheese, and they came with no eggs or cheese. Upon my request I eventually received a plate of scrambled eggs on the side, though I wish I was still more hungry at that point. The other dishes at my table were all okay, nothing special though. Based on my experience and everyone's opinions here, I'll stick with Tu y Yo when I need a Mexican fix in the Cambridge/Somerville area (and otherwise will head to Eastie).

Fave items at Cuchi Cuchi?

I *love* the Cuban Cigar; the Duck a l'Orange Crepes takes second place.

Favorite Boston food writer

Until a year ago I lived in Los Angeles and was lucky enough to have a world-class food critic who loved to cover small, inexpensive, ethnic restaurants to guide my meanderings about town. Incidentally, if you've never read anything by Jonathan Gold, you owe it to yourself to check out his column in the L.A. Weekly - he's a terrific, entertaining writer and an adventurous eater. Anyway, I have found some Boston food blogs I like but feel like I'm probably missing some good writers and resources. Does anyone have favorite local writers to recommend, particularly with respect to local low-end cuisine?

Best tiramisu in town

I haven't been looking for very long, but the tiramisu from Caffe Vittoria is terrific, the best I've had. Can anyone top their version in or around Boston?

Good eats on Brandeis campus or within walking distance

hmmm, maybe you two (chowcat & geminigirl) are talking about the same place - brandeis' website lists "nature's balance" as a vegan/veggie extension of the balance station... i'll check it out, thanks.

Good eats on Brandeis campus or within walking distance

Nothing/not much is the general vibe I've been getting, but it's good to get feedback from CHers. Well, like I mentioned I have found the Dominic's offerings on campus to be very nice, and a lot better than anything else I've tried so far...

Good eats on Brandeis campus or within walking distance

Yes, at some point I'll get a bike, but for now I'm limited to the range you describe. I'll certainly be working here long enough to try everything at some point, but any recommendations of places (and particular items) on campus or in the set of stores you described would be helpful and probably save me many bad meals. I've heard varying opinions on C(r)appy's for example, but don't know anyone here yet that seems to care too much about optimizing their eating here.

Good eats on Brandeis campus or within walking distance

I'm new to the Boston area, and new to Brandeis. Does anyone have any recommendations for lunchtime eats on or within walking distance of campus? I've checked out the various Brandeis-related threats on the board and they mostly mention places within a very quick drive or a very long walk - not doable for me during the work day. The best on campus I've found in my week-and-a-half here so far are the panini sandwiches at Dominic's Italian in Lemberg.

Somalian food

Great post - thanks. I wish I could go, but the place was burned down by an arsonist two years ago (and I haven't found anything to indicate that it was rebuilt):

Do you know of any other restaurants in SD where I can find Somali food? I can't find a thing on the web, calling around hasn't helped, and I would prefer to have a destination over driving around Little Mogadishu at random (I'm heading there on Monday).

Somali food

I posted this message to the California board by accident (though I guess it is relevant there too): http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/.... I'm basically wondering if anyone knows of any restaurants serving Somali food in L.A. (the closest I can find is San Diego). Thanks in advance...

Somalian food

I am planning to trek down to San Diego next week, and would like to sample some Somalian food (which I've never tried before) in Little Mogadishu. I've read about Awash, but it sounds like the Ethopean there is better than the Somalian fare. I don't think there are any Somalian restaurants to be found in the L.A. area, but would love to find out if there are any (as per my quest for unusual ethnic foods: see www.foodmagellan.com). Otherwise, does anyone have recommendations for where to find good Somalian in San Diego?

North Korean specialties?

I've never been, oro3030, but YongSuSan features traditional cuisine from Kaesong, a city in North Korea that used to be the capital of Korea (over 600 years ago). Having checked out the menu, I'm very much looking forward to the "Testes of Korea." The only clue I have (but it's a good one) as to which dishes are authentically North Korean are the ones with Kaesong in the names - and there are plenty of them.
