Matcha Green Tea?
Are there any Japanese or other places that serve traditional matcha green tea? I can't recall that Teaism servers it...

Potenza's bakery?
I thought nutella tart was a little too sweet for me, though I love nutella. My favorite are the cookies (because they are maybe the least sweet things) and the sticky buns.
Potenza's bakery?
Italian cookies, gelato, rotating lunch menu of five sandwich type items. The mushroom tart is my favorite savory, if a bit oily. Stromboli is also heavy on meats and nice. For bread, I like their fennel boule but I hate the baguettes. Too airy. Most pastries are of course Italian themed, so they have a sweet focaccia, nutella tart, cherry sticky bun, etc.. (Well maybe that last one isn't Italian, I don't know.) Its worth checking out. I like Breadline and G Street better for lunch, but their sweets are nice.
Nice & fun lunch spot near Farragut West
Founding Farmers is the only "nice" restaurant I like in the area. For non-fancy, I love Breadline and the newly opened G Street.

Candied Orange Peel - where to buy?
Where can I buy candied orange peel in the DC area, especially the dark chocolate covered kind?
G Street Food Open!
I've tried a few more things on the menu. I quite like the Montreal bagel. I've never tried them in Montreal, but these were a bit denser, smaller, and chewier than regular bagels. I didn't really taste the sweetness people say these bagels tend to have. The veggie yogurt cream cheese was a nice light accompaniment. I'm not sure what that is, but it seems like chopped veggies whipped into a mixture of yogurt and cream cheese...It was great. I'd love to try making that at home.
The bread-based breakfast options are also quite good. Panino contains curry cooked veggies with an egg over a hearty slice of toast. They also recently offered biscuits, which are probably my favorite things on the menu right now. Light, buttery, and airy. Just perfect. About $1.25 a piece though I think.
They have a few new items they seem to be trying out, like Korean bibimbop. (I did not try it.)
After about three or so visits, I'd say this place is still working out the pace of things and the structure of the pernament menu. The winners are the bread-based options, particularly sandwiches.
G Street Food Open!
I tried their Thai salad thing during the free sample day. Like the previous poster's description of the Bahn Mi, it wasn't really "authentic" so much as a haute couture take...I wasn't that impressed.
I tried the Merguez sausage for lunch and that was pretty good. It could have used more pickled veggies, but the bread and sausage were great. A hearty fresh made bun was nice, and the fries that came with it were also the way I like them--crisp and thick cut. I'd like to try the other types, especially kimchi and bratwurst. Sounds cool.
I have tried almost all of the deserts (mini apple pie, dulce de leche cookie, brownie, raspberry cupcake) and every single one was great. Particularly the dulce de leche cookie. Not too sweet and and a good size.
I am dying to try the Montreal bagel with veggie yogurt cheese, but every time I go they are sold out...
The tartines look interesting. My guess is stick with the bread-based options given the pedigree of this place.
EDIT - However I too am not a fan of the inflated prices. Like Breadline, lunch can set you back over $10!
What's good at Acadiana (and has low cholesterol)?
I also second going for smaller portions with either appetizers or doggy bags. I would just consider Acaidana a treat, and maintain healthy eating with your other meals, more fruits & veggies and less meat/cheese etc.
Cafe Du Monde for Cà Phê Sữa đá in the district?
Oh, is that always made with Cafe du Monde? That must be why Asian grocery stores always seem to have it! I never understood why New Orleans coffee was in Asian stores...Anyway Hmart in Merrifield have some. Probably the other branches do too.
Mochi (just mochi, not ice cream) in DC
You can get fresh rice cake, Korean style, at many rice cake (dduk) stores in Annandale, like this one:

There's another one by the Kmart in Annandale and another one on some side street behind and just past the Kmart...sorry my sense of direction is fuzzy.
You can get Japanese style sweet mochi, or Korean style rice cakes that are boiled or steamed instead of pounded. They have kinako powder rice cakes, cakes with dried fruit and nuts embedded in them, and other cakes filled with brown sugar and sweet sesame. Definitely venture out and try some if you like mochi! All are great with tea.
Soup!!! Gotta have it!
Spicy Peanut Soup from Breadline! Mmmm. I wish I knew the recipe. I don't even know what regional cuisine its from...
Looking for Japanese Style Curry in NoVA
I think Dolce Bakery in Annandale. Its technically Korean, but Korean and Japanese style curry are the same. Actually I think the Koreans market it as "Japanese style curry." There are probably other locations in Korea town that sell curry.
Cheapish ($50) pre fixe meals in DC?
You are also likely to find many good lunch deals too. 2941 bar menu dinner prix fix (Falls Church) and The Majestic lunch (Old Town Alexandria) are nice. The 2941 regular dinner prix fix left me still hungry despite the higher price. I think bar is a better deal.
Coffee
I second Swings near the White House. I see notable White House staff there all the time. (Ok, once...since I don't drink coffee all the time.) They roast locally. The hot chocolate is also tasty. They also charge reasonably for pastries, not the crazy five bucks for a croissant you see nowadays...
Teaism is tea not coffee but an interesting change of pace for caffeine near the National Archives and Lafayette Park (Farragut area). I don't like their faux Asian health food that much, but tea shops are hard to find.
Wicked Bread?
Cheestique has started selling Wicked Bread from the baker at 2941 in Falls Church. I don't live near Cheestique so I haven't been able to catch the bread yet. Does anyone know if Wicked Bread plan on selling retail at more locations? How is the new bread at Cheestique, for those who have tried it?
Ethiopian dining solo?
I'd really like to try Ethiopian food. Are there any dishes at DC area restaurants that are a good size for a solo diner? Or restaurants that won't mind if you are by yourself and box up leftovers?
Le Grand Cafe in Mclean
Has anyone tried Le Grand Cafe in Mclean? I've passed by a few times, looking for a readout before I test it out myself.
Best Bread Baker DC/NOVA? (for sale by loaf, not restaurants!)
My favorite so far is Baguette Republic, followed by Cenan's and then Marvelous Market. Cenan's has the most interesting variety of breads, while Baguette Republic's texture was more my taste. Marvelous Market has an uninspiring and overpriced selection. I was not impressed.
I have not yet tried Best Buns, Breadline, or Firehook. As a carb fanatic, will have to hunt those down!
